Direct measurement of the W boson width in p&pmacr; collisions at radicals = 1.8 TeV

This Letter describes a direct measurement of the W boson total decay width, gamma(W), using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The measurement uses an integrated luminosity of 90 pb(-1), collected during the 1994-1995 run of the Fermilab Tevatron p&pmacr; collider. The width is determined by normalizing predicted signal and background distributions to 49 844 W-->enu candidates and 21 806 W-->&mgr;nu candidates in the transverse-mass region M(T)<200 GeV and then fitting the predicted shape to the 438 electron events and 196 muon events in the high- M(T) region, 100相似文献   

Non-linear response of a liquid bridge to a sinusoidal acceleration under microgravity

An experiment was performed aboard a sounding rocket on a long cylindrical liquid bridge, aiming at discerning the real transfer function of this liquid configuration to small acceleration loads, quantified by the liquid free-surface deformation divided by the axially imposed acceleration. The results were, however, in great discrepancy with theoretical predictions, showing asymmetric jumps of high amplitude in the evolution of the radial deformation of the liquid bridge, instead of a symmetric sinusoidal radial deformation (axisymmetry was preserved). It has been found now that a non-linear dynamic model perfectly explains this unexpected behaviour.     

New compounds from hyptis. X-ray crystal and molecular structures of anamarine

The structure (including absolute stereochemistry) of anamarine, a new unsaturated lactone isolated from an unclassified $\text{Hyptis}$ species, has been established.     

X-Ray waveguiding studies of ordering phenomena in confined fluids

We have determined the structure of a colloidal fluid confined in a gap between two walls by making use of the waveguiding properties of the gap at x-ray wavelengths. The method is based on an analysis of the coupling of waveguide modes induced by the density variations in the confined fluid. Studies on suspensions confined within gaps of a few hundred nanometers showed strongly selective mode coupling effects, indicative of an ordering of the colloidal particles in layers parallel to the confining walls.     

Synthesis and structure of the molecular complex between N-(N′, N′-dimethylaminopropyl)phenothiazine hydrochloride and 7,7,8,8-tetracyano-p-quinodimethane (DAPP-TCNQ)

Synthesis, spectroscopic, and X-ray structural analysis of the molecular complex between the N-(N, N-dimethylaminopropyl)phenothiazine hydrochloride, monohydrate, (DAPP) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyano-p-quinodimethane (TCNQ), has been carried out. Crystals of C₂₉H₂₇N₆OSCl are monoclinic, P2₁/c,a=12.190(2),b=7.695(2),c=28.928(3)Å, =91.68(1)°. The molecular complex consists of DAPP as donor binding to TCNQ as acceptor by the thiazine central ring and one of the aromatic rings stacking in parallel planes along thec-axis with an interplanar separation of 3.24Å and 3.16Å, respectively. The electronic and epr spectra of the complex are discussed.
