Charge and spin structure in of YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6.35)

Neutron scattering has been used to measure the charge and spin structure in the highly underdoped superconductor YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6.35). Incommensurate static charge ordering is found that remains at high temperatures. The magnetic pattern is complex with a resonance and incommensurate structure observed at low temperatures. The results clarify the role of striped phases in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6+x) superconductors.     

Quantum critical scaling and the origin of non-fermi-liquid behavior in Sc1-xUxPd3

We used inelastic neutron scattering to study magnetic excitations of Sc1-xUxPd3 for U concentrations (x=0.25, 0.35) near the spin glass quantum critical point (QCP). The excitations are spatially incoherent, broad in energy (E=variant Planck's over 2piomega), and follow omega/T scaling at all wave vectors investigated. Since similar omega/T scaling has been observed for UCu5-xPdx and CeCu6-xAux near the antiferromagnetic QCP, we argue that the observed non-Fermi-liquid behavior in these f-electron materials arises from the critical phenomena near a T=0 K phase transition, irrespective of the nature of the transition.     

Existence of homoclinic solution for the second order Hamiltonian systems

An existence theorem of homoclinic solution is obtained for a class of the nonautonomous second order Hamiltonian systems , ∀t∈R, by the minimax methods in the critical point theory, specially, the generalized mountain pass theorem, where L(t) is unnecessary uniformly positively definite for all t∈R, and W(t,x) satisfies the superquadratic condition W(t,x)/|x|²→+∞ as |x|→∞ uniformly in t, and need not satisfy the global Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition.

Phase-locking observed among high-order lateral modes of a broad-stripe diode array inside an external cavity

For a laser diode array (LDA) positioned in an external cavity of a certain length, a very strong inter-emitter coupling can be established between the off-axis lateral modes of the broad-stripe emitters. Under these circumstances, the phase-locked operation of the LDA due to couplings between off-axis modes of emitters has been observed, for the first time to our knowledge. The observations suggest that phase locking of a broad-stripe LDA can be achieved among different emitter lateral modes by selecting different cavity lengths.     

On unique continuation properties for sub-Laplacian on Carnot groups

In this article, authors begin with establishing representation formulas and properties for functions on Carnot groups. Then, some unique continuation results to solutions of sub-Laplace equations with potentials are proved.
