Similar quartz crystallographic textures in rocks of continental earth’s crust (by neutron diffraction data): II. Quartz textures in monophase rocks

The types of quartz textures found in a large collection of multiphase rocks from different regions of the earth are analyzed. Crystallographic textures of granulite, amphibolite, slate, and gneiss samples are measured, classified, and compared with the similar textures of monomineral rocks.     

Chlorination and oxidation products formed from 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene in aqueous solution under the action of chlorine dioxide

Products of the reaction of 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene with chlorine dioxide in aqueous solution were studied. A scheme of 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene transformations was suggested. The influence exerted on the number of the reaction products by the ClO₂ dosage and time of its contact with the substrate was examined.     

New sources of “active” halogen bis(dialkylamide)hydrogen dibromobromates, efficient reagents for destruction of ecotoxicants

Bis(dialkylamide)hydrogen dibromobromates were synthesized and their reactivity was investigated in decomposition of diethylphosphonic, diethylphosphoric, and 4-toluenesulfonic acids 4-nitrophenyl esters. The nucleophilic reactivity of a typical α-nucleophile, hypobromite ion, is independent of the source of the active bromine. The cetyltrimethylammonium dibromobromate is a unique reagent for destruction of ecotoxicants. In weakly alkaline media the half-life of 4-nitrophenyl diethylphosphonate did not exceed 6 s at [BrO^?] 0.02 mol l^?1, and the apparent reaction rate compared to water increased ～40-fold. The main factor governing the micellar effects of surfactants is concentrating the substrate in the micellar pseudophase.     

Rare-earth metal 8-hydroxyquinolinate complexes as materials for organic light-emitting diodes

Rare-earth metal 8-hydroxyquinolinates (q) were studied as emission layers for organic light-emitting diodes. Compounds Dyq₃, Tbq₃, and Smq₃ possess weak electroluminescence due to the emission of the ligand, and the electroluminescence of Hoq₃, Tmq₃, and Ybq₃ is due to electronic transitions of the lanthanide ion. The best electroluminescence characteristics were demonstrated by Scq₃ and Yq₃. The power efficiency of the organic light emitter based on ITO/TPD/Scq₃/Yb (ITO is tin-alloyed indium oxide, TPD is N,N′-bis(3-methylphenyl)-N,N′-diphenylbenzidine) is 2.6 lm W⁻¹ at a luminance of the device of 300 cd m⁻².     

Metal complexes of 2-hetarylindandiones-1,3

The chelate and molecular complexes of 2-(2-benzazolyl, perimidyl)-indandiones-1,3 were synthesized for the first time. The structures of the ligands (tautomeric forms) and complex compounds were determined from the X-ray diffraction, ¹H, ¹³C NMR, and IR data and the quantum-chemical calculations (RHF SCF in 6-31 G** basis).     

Simulation of interaction between a rarefied gas jet and an obstacle by the methods of molecular dynamics

An efficient method of direct numerical simulation is proposed. The steady-state flow field generated by the impingement of a gas jet on a wall is studied as an example. The numerical results obtained during this study are in good agreement with the numerical solutions of other authors.     

Water wave radiation by a sphere submerged in water with an ice-cover

Using the multipoles method, we formulate the problems of radiation (both heave and sway) of water waves by a submerged sphere in deep as well as in uniform finite depth water with an ice-cover, with the ice-cover being modelled as an elastic plate of very small thickness. In each case this leads to an infinite system of linear equations which are solved numerically by standard techniques. The added-mass and damping coefficients for a heaving and swaying sphere are obtained and depicted graphically against the wave number for various values of the radius of the submerged sphere and flexural rigidity of the ice-cover to show the effect of the presence of ice-cover on these quantities. When the flexural rigidity is taken to be zero, the numerical results for the added-mass and damping coefficient for water with a free surface are recovered.     

Nucleophilic addition to acetylenes in superbasic catalytic systems: XV. Vinylation of 2-hydroxymethylfuran

2-Hydroxymethylfuran reacted with acetylene in superbasic catalytic systems MOH-DMSO (M = Na, K) under mild temperature conditions (75–85°C, 1–2 h), yielding 80% of 2-vinyloxymethylfuran. The product, as well as acetaldehyde acetals derived therefrom, turned out to be promising as modifiers for electrolyte in lithium-sulfur rechargeable batteries.     

Modification of multiwalled carbon nanotubes by carboxy groups and determination of the degree of functionalization

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes were modified by carboxy groups. Four independent methods for the determination of the degree of functionalization of the surface were proposed: ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, titrimetry, and fluorimetry. The first two methods show the total content of carboxy groups in the sample, and the latter two methods give information about the content of the surface groups only.
