X-ray photoelectron spectra of aryldiazo derivatives of transition metals

The X-ray photoelectron spectra of singly bent, doubly bent, and protonated doubly bent aryldiazonium complexes have been obtained and show that the RN₂ ligand is highly reduced. The correlation observed between binding energies and structure of the MN₂R moiety permit the assignment of the N(1s) photopeaks.     

A phase space analysis of baroclinic flow

The qualitative dynamics of a baroclinic flow experiment are studied by constructing phase space coordinates from a single time series. As the stress on the flow is increased we observe steady, periodic, quasiperiodic, and chaotic flow. The chaotic attractor we observe near the transition has the appearance of a thickened torus.     

The mixing properties of hexafluorobenzene with carbon tetrachloride and with perfluoromethylcyclohexane

Excess thermodynamic functions (free energies, enthalpies and entropies of mixing) have been obtained from measurements of vapour pressures, together with excess volumes of mixing, for mixtures of hexafluorobenzene with carbon tetrachloride and with perfluoromethyl-cyclohexane (tetradecafluoromethylcyclohexane). Deviations from thermodynamic ideality are large, although the systems are completely miscible. Critical temperatures of the mixtures are also reported. A correlation between the data, anticipated from a simple model for mixtures of asymmetric molecules, does not obtain.     

A generalization of the implicit function theorem for mappings from Rn + 1 into Rn and its applications

Some regularity results about the local structure of the zero set of a mapping of n + 1 real variables with values in $\text{R}$ⁿ are presented. They all provide improved and generalized versions of the Morse lemma for plane curves as well as generalizations of the implicit function theorem. We describe their applications to one-parameter nonlinear problems, including an analysis of bifurcation phenomena at simple or multiple eigenvalues.
