Composite Silica Particles Using a Mixture of Organosilane Monomers

Composite silica particles were synthesized by a two-step (acid-base) process in an aqueous solution with a mixture of organoalkoxysilane monomers. The two-step process separates the hydrolysis and condensation procedures to easily control condensation rate. In this study, the silane monomers used were phenyltrimethoxysilane (PTMS), vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS), methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS), and tetraethyl-orthosilicate (TEOS). The physical properties of the resultant composite particles were investigated with the change in the molar ratio of monomers. The size of the particles increased with increasing the molar ratio of R_aSi(OR)₃/R_bSi(OR)₃ or R_aSi(OR)₃/TEOS (R_a: phenyl; R_b: vinyl, methyl).     

Mutation detection in the drug-resistant hepatitis B virus polymerase gene using nanostructured reverse micelles.

The emergence of drug-resistant hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been reported in patients with prolonged administration of lamivudine, which is a potent drug for the prevention of HBV infection. Lamivudine-resistant HBV has several types of mutations at the YMDD motif of its DNA polymerase. We successfully demonstrated that monitoring the hybridization behavior in nanostructured reverse micelles enables us to detect single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). With the aid of reverse micelles, a model 40-mer oligonucleotide containing a single-base substitution was clearly distinguished from the normal, complementary oligonucleotide. In addition, we extended this technique to a high-throughput analysis. The results obtained with a 96-well micro-plate reader indicated the possibility of SNPs detection toward multiple samples of patients.     

Electrospinning of ultrafine cellulose acetate fibers: Studies of a new solvent system and deacetylation of ultrafine cellulose acetate fibers

Electrospinning of cellulose acetate (CA) in a new solvent system and the deacetylation of the resulting ultrafine CA fibers were investigated. Ultrafine CA fibers (∼2.3 μm) were successfully prepared via electrospinning of CA in a mixed solvent of acetone/water at water contents of 10–15 wt %, and more ultrafine CA fibers (0.46 μm) were produced under basic pH conditions. Ultrafine cellulose fibers were regenerated from the homogeneous deacetylation of ultrafine CA fibers in KOH/ethanol. It was very rapid and completed within 20 min. The crystal structure, thermal properties, and morphology of ultrafine CA fibers were changed according to the degree of deacetylation, finally to those of pure cellulose, but the nonwoven fibrous mat structure was maintained. 溶胶-凝胶法制备小颗粒(Y,Gd)BO_3∶Eu及其表征

用溶胶 凝胶方法制备了平均粒径为 1～ 2 μm的小颗粒、高发射效率的 (Y ,Gd)BO3 ∶Eu红色发射荧光体。用XRD、SEM、粒度分析和PL光谱对荧光体作了表征和研究。常规固相反应合成 (Y ,Gd)BO3 ∶Eu需在 1 2 0 0℃以上才能形成均一的固溶体。而溶胶 凝胶法制取稀土正硼酸盐 80 0℃灼烧已可形成均一的单相 (Y ,Gd)BO3 ∶Eu,在 1 1 0 0℃可得到发光亮度最高的荧光体。它的亮度是常规固相反应于 1 2 0 0℃制得的荧光体的 1 2 0 %。采用溶胶 凝胶法制取 (Y ,Gd)BO3 ∶Eu荧光体 ,可在相当宽的实验条件范围内得到小粒径、窄分布和高亮度的荧光体 ,且有良好的颗粒形貌。     

Existence and uniform decay for Euler–Bernoulli beam equation with memory term

In this article we prove the existence of the solution to the mixed problem for Euler–Bernoulli beam equation with memory term. The existence is proved by means of the Faedo–Galerkin method and the exponential decay is obtained by making use of the multiplier technique combined with integral inequalities due to Komornik. A real algorithm for the Hermitian eigenvalue decomposition

Modifying complex plane rotations, we derive a new Jacobi-type algorithm for the Hermitian eigendecomposition, which uses only real arithmetic. When the fast-scaled rotations are incorporated, the new algorithm brings a substantial reduction in computational costs. The new method has the same convergence properties and parallelism as the symmetric Jacobi algorithm. Dielectric effect on the rf characteristics of a helical groove travelling wave tube

A new type of partial-dielectric-loaded helical groove slow-wave structure (SWS) for millimetre wave travelling wave tube (TWT） is presented in this paper.The radio-frequency characteristics including the dispersion properties,the longitudinal electric field distribution and the beam-wave coupling impedance of this structure are analysed.The results show that the dispersion of the helical groove circuit is weakened,the phase velocity is reduced and the position of the maximum Ez is moved from the mouth to the inside of the groove after partially filling the dielectric materials in the helical groove SWS.Therefore,the dielectric-loaded helical groove SWS is suitable for a multi-beam TWT with broad band and high gain.     

FAR-INFRARED AND INFRARED REFLECTIONS OF Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10 FILM

The far-infrared and infrared reflection spectra of Tl₂Ba₂Ca₂Cu₃O₁₀ superconducting film are reported in this paper. It is found there are three sharp reflection edges in both the superconducting and normal states, their positions being near ≈ 150, ≈ 350 and ≈600 cm^-1. We attribute these reflection spectra to the Drude free carriers and a wide mid-infrared absorption band. When the incident angle increases from 7° to 30°, some additional stractures appear in the refiection spectra, which are the A_2u phonon modes vibrating along c-axis.     

Generation of 0.2-TW 5.5-fs optical pulses at 1 kHz using a differentially pumped hollow-fiber chirped-mirror compressor

Optical pulses with 1.1-mJ energy and 5.5-fs duration have been generated at 1-kHz repetition rate from a chirped pulse amplification Ti:Sapphire laser incorporating a differentially pumped hollow-fiber chirped-mirror compressor. The effects of self-focusing and multi-photon ionization during the beam propagation were minimized by differentially pumping the hollow fiber filled with neon. The spectral broadening at the hollow-fiber compressor was optimized by adjusting gas pressure, laser intensity, and laser chirp, covering from 540 nm to 950 nm. PACS 42.65.Jx; 42.65.Re
