Density functional theory (DFT) of freezing has been used to investigate the freezing transitions in a system of colloidal particles confined to a two-dimensional plane. The particles interact via a model Hertzian type potential of varying softness. The pair-correlation functions (PCFs) needed as input structural information in DFT are calculated by solving hypernetted chain (HNC) integral equation theory. The PCFs thus obtained have been compared with those obtained through experiment and simulations and are found to be in good qualitative agreement. We found that the PCFs are sensitive to the softness of the potential: showing splitting of pair-correlation peak in the harder case and anomalous non-monotonic density dependence in the softer case. Using the common tangent construction method, we have also proposed the fluid-triangular solid phase diagrams in the temperature-density plane. We found that the phase diagram exhibit solid-fluid coexistence region whose thickness decreases with the increasing temperature as well as with increasing softness of the potential. In the temperature and density range of our calculation, DFT fails to produce any reentrance in the phase diagram.  相似文献

A series of boron-containing lipids were prepared by reactions of cyclic oxonium derivatives of polyhedron boranes and metallacarboranes (closo-dodecaborate anion, cobalt and iron bis(dicarbollides)) with amine and carboxylic acids which are derived from cholesterol. Stable liposomal formulations, on the basis of synthesized boron-containing lipids, hydrogenated soybean l -α-phosphatidylcholine and (HSPC) 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[methoxy(polyethylene glycol)-2000] (DSPE-PEG) as excipients, were prepared and then characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS) that revealed the formation of particles to be smaller than 200 nm in diameter. The resulting liposomal formulations showed moderate to excellent loading and entrapment efficiency, thus justifying the design of the compounds to fit in the lipid bilayer and ensuring ease of in vivo use for future application. The liposomal formulations based on cobalt and iron bis(dicarbollide)-based lipids were found to be nontoxic against both human breast normal epithelial cells MCF-10A and human breast cancer cells MCF-7.  相似文献

Thermoelectric power using reversible silver electrodes and electrical conductivity on the compressed pellets of (Me4N)2Ag13I15, and (Et4N)2Ag13I15 have been measured between room temperature and below 160°C. The results of θ can be expressed by the equations:?θ = 0.115 (103/T)+0.2905VK?1 and ?θ = 0.150 (103/T) + 0.305mV K?1; and those of conductivity by the equations; σ = 28.7 exp (?0.17eV/kT) ohm?1cm?1 and σ = 216.6 exp (?0.24eVkT) ohm?1cm?1; respectively for Me- and Et-electrolytes. Electron spin resonance studies have been carried out on Cu2+ ion doped in single crystals of cadmium maleate dihydrate at 303 and 77K. It has been found that Cu2+ enters this lattice interstitially. The spin Hamiltonian parameters have been evaluated and the ground state wave function is found to be predominantly |X 2Y 2〉 with a slight admixture of |3Z 2r 2〉.  相似文献

GaN epitaxial layers were implanted by 100 keV H+ ions at different implantation temperatures (LN2, RT and 300 °C) with a fluence of 2.5×1017 cm?2. The implanted samples were characterized using Nomarski optical microscopy, AFM, XRD, and TEM. Topographical investigations of the implanted surface revealed the formation of surface blistering in the as-implanted samples at 300 °C and after annealing at higher temperature for the implantation at LN2 and RT. The physical dimensions of the surface blisters/craters were dependent on the implantation temperature. XRD showed the dependence of damage-induced stress on the implantation temperature with higher stress for the implantation at 300 °C. TEM investigations revealed the formation of a damage band in all the cases. The damage band was filled with large area microcracks for the implantation at 300 °C, which were responsible for the as-implanted surface blistering.  相似文献

In this work, the governing partial differential equations (continuity and Cauchy’s momentum equations) describing the flow of power-law type non-Newtonian fluids across a semi-circular cylinder (oriented with its curved surface in the upstream direction) have been solved numerically. In particular, consideration has been given to the delineation of the critical Reynolds numbers denoting the onset of flow separation from the surface of the cylinder and the onset of the laminar vortex shedding regime. This information is germane to establish the scaling of the macroscopic characteristics like drag coefficient and Strouhal number on the governing parameters, namely, Reynolds number and power-law index. The present results clearly suggest that the transitional Reynolds numbers show a strong dependence on the type (shear-thinning and shear-thickening) of fluid behavior as well as on the severity of the shear-dependence of the viscosity. With reference to the behavior seen in Newtonian fluids, the flow remains not only attached to the surface up to higher Reynolds numbers, but shear-thinning behavior also delays the onset of the laminar vortex shedding regime. As expected, shear-thickening fluids, of course, display the opposite characteristics.  相似文献
