The charge of dust particles is determined experimentally in a bulk dc discharge plasma in the pressure range 20-100 Pa. The charge is obtained by two independent methods: one based on an analysis of the particle motion in a stable particle flow and another on an analysis of the transition of the flow to an unstable regime. Molecular-dynamics simulations of the particle charging for conditions similar to those of the experiment are also performed. The results of both experimental methods and the simulations demonstrate good agreement. The charge obtained is several times smaller than predicted by the collisionless orbital motion theory, and thus the results serve as an experimental indication that ion-neutral collisions significantly affect particle charging.  相似文献

It has been studied how the conditions of machining and the elastic tensile stresses affect the magnetic properties of amorphous metal wires of composition Fe75Si10B15 produced by drawing from a melt. The magnetic characteristics of wires subjected to both thermal treatment and treatment with a continuous electric current of different magnitude have been investigated. The residual induction of wires is their magnetic parameter most sensitive to the conditions of treatment. The dependences of the residual induction on temperature and on the magnitude of the treating electric current are qualitatively similar. The greatest changes in residual induction are observed in the range of treating electric currents from 0.5 to 0.8 A, which can be associated with the processes of structural relaxation and crystallization occurring in the wires. The run of the dependence of the residual induction on the magnitude of tensile stresses is nonmonotonic in character and is determined by the level of internal hardening stresses of the test wires.  相似文献

We have studied neutron quantum states in the potential well formed by the earths gravitational field and a horizontal mirror. The estimated characteristic sizes of the neutron wave functions in the two lowest quantum states correspond to expectations with an experimental accuracy. A position-sensitive neutron detector with an extra-high spatial resolution of m was developed and tested for this particular experiment, to be used to measure the spatial density distribution in a standing neutron wave above a mirror for a set of some of the lowest quantum states. The present experiment can be used to set an upper limit for an additional short-range fundamental force. Quaternary fission is a nuclear reaction where the two customary fragments from fission are accompanied by two light charged particles. The process has been investigated at the ILL, Grenoble, for thermal neutron induced fission of 233U and 235U. The light particles were identified to be α particles and H isotopes (mostly tritons). Two different types of processes could be disentangled: in one of these processes all four charged particles are born in coincidence while the second process is in fact merely a special case of ternary fission where the ternary particle decays into two charged particles before reaching the detectors.  相似文献

A rigorous solution consistent with a plane wave approximation is given to the boundary problem for Maxwell’s equations for surface optical waves at the boundary with a nonlinear Kerr medium. Exact formulas for the flux intensity (J 0) and energy density (W 0) of these waves are derived depending on the parameters of the adjacent media and the propagation constant (ξ). It is shown that these variables as functions of ξ have minima. Thus, J 0 and W 0 increase sharply as the propagation constant deviates from the minimum value ξmin. Their values are greater, the larger the difference between the dielectric constants of the linear and nonlinear media is. An expression for the propagation velocity of a nonlinear surface wave is also obtained.  相似文献

Molecular-dynamics (MD) simulation of the destruction of a crystal film heated by a femtosecond laser pulse was carried out. Heating is assumed to be instantaneous, because there is no time for the material to be displaced during the pulse. Film destruction is caused by the interaction of unloading waves. It can be considered as a model of a more complex process of splitting out of a thin surface layer from a massive target in the case where the layer remains solid after heating. It was found that the crystal order is broken due to the stretching strains and to the strong anisotropy of residual stress, resulting in a bipartition of the layer separating from the target. The lattice stretching and the formation of anisotropic stresses are due to the expansion of a heated lattice.  相似文献

The results of the first experiments devised to investigate the mixing of thin layers of Al and Au during the laser acceleration of flat three-layer targets of Si (5 μm), Al (2 μm), and Au (0.05–0.26 μm) by radiation converted to the second harmonic from the Iskra-4 iodine laser with an intensity of 4×1013−7×1013 W/cm2 (τ 0.5∼1 ns), which acts on the Si side of the target. A method for detecting the occurrence of mixing is developed. It is established that under the experimental conditions the thickness of the mixing region is at least ∼0.15 μm. The bending elasticity of a fluid membrane is characterized by its modulus and spontaneous curvature. We present a new method, advanced flicker spectroscopy of giant nonspherical vesicles, which makes it possible to simultaneously measure both parameters for the first time. Our analysis is based on the generation of a large set of reference data from Monte Carlo simulations of randomly triangulated surfaces. As an example of the potential of the procedure, we monitor thermal trajectories of vesicle shapes and discuss the elastic response of zwitterionic membranes to transmembrane pH gradients. Our technique makes it possible to easily characterize membrane curvature as a function of environmental conditions.  相似文献
