Algebraic Nijenhuis operators and Kronecker Poisson pencils

We give a criterion of (micro-)kroneckerity of the linear Poisson pencil on g^∗ related to an algebraic Nijenhuis operator on a finite-dimensional Lie algebra g. As an application we get a series of examples of completely integrable systems on semisimple Lie algebras related to Borel subalgebras and a new proof of the complete integrability of the free rigid body system on gln.

Water-Soluble Non-Classical Benzene Mimetics

A new generation of saturated benzene mimetics, 2-oxabicyclo[2.1.1]hexanes, was developed. These compounds were designed as analogues of bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane with an improved water solubility. Crystallographic analysis of 2-oxabicyclo[2.1.1]hexanes revealed that they occupy a novel chemical space, but, at the same time, resemble the motif of meta-disubstituted benzenes.     

Direct Methylation of Bis(benzimidazole-2-N-phenylcarbothioamidato)copper(II)

Methylation of the coordinated heterocyclic thioamide ligand with dimethyl sulfate is studied. When boiled in dimethyl sulfate, bis(benzimidazole-2-N-phenylcarbothioamidato)copper(II) forms copper(II) complexes containing N-phenylbenzimidazole-2-(S-methylcarboisothioamide). The mechanism of this process is considered, and the reaction products are isolated and identified.     

Polyaniline-coated microtiter plates for use in longwave optical bioassays

A technique for coating the wells of microtiterplates with polyaniline layers and with polyaniline/enzyme layers is presented. The resulting wells are shown to be useful for assaying enzyme substrates (as exemplified for glucose via pH) and hydrogen peroxide (via the redox properties of the film). Analyte detection is based on monitoring the absorption spectra of the polyaniline, which turn purple as a result of redox processes, or green on formation of acids by enzymatic reactions. Hydrogen peroxide (a species produced by all oxidases) and glucose (which yields protons on enzymatic oxidation) have been determined in the millimolar to micromolar concentration range. High sensitivity, film stability and good reproducibility of the measurements make the system an attractive alternative to existing biosensing schemes.
