Triple condensation of aryl methyl ketones catalyzed by amine and trifluoroacetic acid: straightforward access to 1,3,5-triarylbenzenes under mild conditions

An efficient triple condensation reaction of aryl methyl ketones catalyzed by ethylenediamine and trifluoroacetic acid was reported. A broad scope of 1,3,5-triarylbenzenes was obtained in good to excellent yields. The reaction provides a novel and practical approach to access organic materials of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons under mild conditions.     

Superhydrophobic nickel films fabricated by electro and electroless deposition

In this work, a superhydrophobic nickel surface is fabricated by coupling electro and electroless deposition without chemical modification. SEM study reveals that electrodeposited nickel surface is characterized by nanocone arrays and has a contact angle of about 135°. After adding electroless deposition, as the second step, hemispherically topped nickel nanocone arrays are formed which leads to a high contact angle of 153.6°. That is, nickel surface has successfully transformed from hydrophobic to superhydrophobic. This transition is investigated both from the aspects of chemical composition and surface structure and proves the latter is the dominant factor. The present study inspires us to do more research about the creation of rough surfaces and enriches our comprehension about superhydrophobicity.     

The band gap and transmission characteristics investigation of local resonant quaternary phononic crystals with periodic coating

In this article, the investigation of the Lamb wave propagation in two-dimensional phononic crystals (PCs) composed of an array of periodic coating on a thin plate is presented. Compared with the traditional PCs usually consist of cylindrical scatters with uniform coatings in their exterior structure, the newly exterior coating structures with periodic alternant arrangement of two different materials are proposed. The band structures are calculated using finite element method. We discover that a complete band gap can be exhibited at low frequency. Furthermore, for a finite PCs plate, the computed transmission and resonance spectra shown an evident resonance nature which can be directly related to formation of the low-frequency gaps. The effects of different material parameters and arrangement mode of coating on the acoustic energy transmission and attenuation are also studied. Finally, the experimental transmission spectrum of the periodic coating PCs are also presented and compared with the numerical results. This study will provide useful support to the design of tuning band gaps and isolators in the low-frequency range.     

Catalytic activity of chiral chelating N-heterocyclic carbene palladium complexes towards asymmetric allylic alkylation

Abstract

The catalytic activity of a series of chiral heteroaryl coordinated chelating N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) palladium complexes towards asymmetric allylic alkylation (AAA) were presented here. The effects of different N-substituents, NHC backbones and chelate rings on the catalytic activity and the enantioselectivity of the alkylation of (E)-1,3-diarylallyl acetates with dialkyl malonate were investigated. The results showed that, under the optimized conditions, complexes 3a, 3b, and 3i carrying the pyridinyl-coordinated five-membered chelate ring showed high catalytic activity and chiral induction efficiency. The corresponding alkylated products were obtained in high yields with moderate ee. Furthermore, it was found that the substituents of (E)-1,3-diarylallyl acetates and the type of the nucleophile affect the results as well.     

Metal-free synthesis of (E)-vinyl sulfones via denitrative coupling reactions of β-nitrostyrenes with sodium sulfinates

Abstract

A practical metal-free procedure for the synthesis of (E)-vinyl sulfones has been developed through the coupling of β-nitrostyrenes with sodium sulfinates under microwave irradiation. This methodology provides a convenient and efficient approach to various (E)-vinyl sulfones from readily available starting materials with excellent regioselectivity. The present oxidative reaction involves an efficient denitrative radical cross-coupling of β-nitrostyrenes with sodium sulfinates via using AcOH as an additive.     

Synthesis and pesticidal activities of novel anthranilic diamides containing pyridylpyrazole and iminodithiocarbamate or thiosemicarbazone motifs

Abstract

A series of novel anthranilic diamide derivatives containing pyridylpyrazole and iminodithiocarbamate or thiosemicarbazone motifs were synthesized via multi-step reactions. The structures of seven title compounds (methyl 2-(2-(3-bromo-1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxamido)-5-chloro-3- methylbenzylidene)hydrazinecarbodithioate 7 and 3-bromo-N-(2-((2-substitutedcarbamothioylhydrazono)methyl)-4-chloro-6-methylphenyl)-1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxamide 8a-8f) were confirmed by melting points, IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and HRMS. The bioassays showed that some of the compounds exhibited modest insecticidal activities against oriental armyworm (Mythimna separata Walker), particularly, compound 8b (3-bromo-N-(4-chloro-2-methyl-6-((2-(methylcarbamothioyl)hydrazono)methyl)phenyl)-1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxamide) held 100% and 30% larvicidal activity at the concentration of 25?mg/L and 10?mg/L, respectively. In addition, several compounds displayed favorable fungicidal activities against Alternaria solani Sorauer and Physalospora piricola at 50?μg/mL, and were comparable with the controls Chlorothalonil and Triadimefon. The results in this paper will provide important information for further research and development of sulfur-containing heterocyclic agrochemicals.
