Summary. N′-Arylacetonitrilimines were generated from acetohydrazonyl chlorides and reacted with mercaptoalkanoic acids forming 4-aryl-5-oxo-3-thiahexanoic
acids. These were cyclized by reaction with dicyclohexyl carbodiimide yielding 2-acetyl-4-aryl-6H-1,3,4-thiadiazin-5-ones.

Focusing on CO2 fixation, photoautotrophic cultivation of the red algaPorphyridium cruentum was investigated by means of a batch culture under a 5% CO2-enriched atmosphere. The algal growth kinetics was successfully described with a logistic model, and simulation of a continuous
culture under the optimum growth conditions (30°C, 12 klux and 1.18 g-cells/L) showed that the algal CO2-fixation activity could reach 0.66 g-CO2/(L X d). Under the same growth conditions, eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5 n-3, EPA) and arachidonic acid (20:4 n-6, ARA) yields

From three species of livestock, bovine, ovine and porcine, samples of urine from each 10–20 different animals were collected. The animals originated from a governmental experimental farm and differed in race, age, sex and were fed with different types of feed. Fifty different samples of urine were lyophilised in units of 5 mL in sealed amber glass bottles. After lyophilisation of the samples, several quality control tests were performed. The variation in net weight of the units of urine and the lyophilisates ranged from 0.01%–1.7% and 0.1%–10%, respectively. Most values did not exceed 0.1% for urines and 1% for lyophilisates. The residual water content of the lyophilisates was determined by the Karl-Fisher titration method. The average percentage of residual water ranged from 1.0%–7.0% for bovine, from 1.3%–3.0% for porcine and from 1.6%–5.5% for ovine urine lyophilisates. Further, all different samples were analysed for the presence of anabolic compounds with a multi-residue procedure developed at the CRL. In two samples of bovine urine the presence of α-boldenone was detected and confirmed. In most porcine urines the endogenous steroids α-testosterone and α-estradiol were detected. In a number of porcine and ovine urine samples α- and β-zearalenol were detected. The origin of these compounds is the f2-toxin produced by a Fusarium fungus. Savings in analysis time in capillary GC have always been an important issue for chromatographers since the introduction of capillary columns by Golay in 1958. In laboratories where gas chromatographic techniques are routinely applied as an analytical technique, every reduction of analysis time, without significant loss of resolution, can be translated into a higher sample throughput and hence reduce the laboratory operating costs. In this contribution, three different approaches for obtaining fast GC separations are investigated. First, a narrow-bore column is used under conventional GC operating conditions. Secondly, the same narrow-bore column is used under typical fast GC conditions. Here, a high oven temperature programming rate is used. The third approach uses a recent new development in GC instrumentation: Flash-2D-GC. Here the column is placed inside a metal tube, which is resistively heated. With this system, a temperature programming rate of 100°/s is possible. The results obtained with each of these three approaches are compared with results obtained on a column with conventional dimensions. This comparison takes retention times as well as plate numbers and resolution into consideration. 相似文献

Spatio‐temporal patterns in sun exposure underlie variations in skin cancer incidence and vitamin D deficiency, indicate effectiveness of sun protection programs and provide insights into future health risks. From 558 adults across four regions of Australia (Brisbane (27°S), Newcastle (33°S), Geelong and the Western Districts of Victoria (37°S) and Tasmania (43°S)), we collected: self‐report data on time‐in‐the‐sun from age 6 years; natural skin color and ethnicity; silicone skin casts (for cumulative skin damage); and serum for vitamin D status. Ambient ultraviolet radiation (UVR) at the location of residence, with time‐in‐the‐sun, was used to calculate a “UVR dose” for each year of life. Individuals maintained their ranking compared to their peers for time‐in‐the‐sun in summer compared to winter and across ages (Spearman rho 0.24–0.84, all P < 0.001). Time‐in‐the‐sun decreased with age in all birth cohorts, and over calendar time. Summer time‐in‐the‐sun increased with increasing latitude (P < 0.001). Seasonal variation in vitamin D status had greater amplitude and vitamin D deficiency increased with increasing latitude. Temporal patterns are consistent with effectiveness of sun protection programs. Higher relative time‐in‐the‐sun persists from childhood through adulthood. Lower summer time‐in‐the‐sun in the warmest location may have implications for predictions of UVR‐related health risks of climate change. 相似文献

Acetate-terminated oligomers of fluoral, chloral and bromal, prepared with the lithium alkoxides of tert-butanol and (-)-borneol, were analyzed by gas chromatography, polarimetry, NMR and mass spectroscopies, and by single crystal x-ray diffraction methods. The configurational and conformational properties of the “embryonic” adducts were found to depend strongly on the relative size of the trihalomethyl side group in these systems. The results of our efforts, summarized here, help to shed new light on the origins of helical geometry and crystalline order in polymers of the perhaloacetaldehydes. 相似文献

The time-resolved fluorescence properties of the bacteriophage T4 capsid protein gp23 are investigated. The structural characteristics of this protein are largely unknown and can be probed by recording time-resolved and decay-associated fluorescence spectra and intensity decay curves using a 200 ps-gated intensified CCD-camera. Spectral and decay data are recorded simultaneously, which makes data acquisition fast compared to time-correlated single-photon counting. A red-shift of the emission maximum within the first nanosecond of decay is observed, which can be explained by the different decay-associated spectra of fluorescence lifetimes of the protein in combination with dipolar relaxation. In addition, iodide quenching experiments are performed, to study the degree of exposure of the various tryptophan residues. A model for the origin of the observed lifetimes of 0.032 +/- 0.003, 0.39 +/- 0.06, 2.1 +/- 0.1 and 6.8 +/- 0.8 ns is presented: the 32 ps lifetime can be assigned to the emission of a buried tryptophan residue, the 0.4 and 2.1 ns lifetimes to two partly buried residues, and the 6.8 ns lifetime to a single tryptophan outside the bulk of the folded gp23. 相似文献
