Conformational analysis of dipeptide‐derived polyisocyanides

The conformational properties of polymers derived from isocyanodipeptides have been investigated with a combination of model calculations, X‐ray diffraction, and circular dichroism spectroscopy. Depending on the configuration of the side chains, defined arrays of hydrogen bonds along the polymeric backbone are formed. This leads to a well‐defined conformation as, for example, expressed in the formation of lyotropic liquid‐crystalline phases and increased helical stability. Upon the disruption of the hydrogen bonds by a strong acid, a less well‐defined macromolecular conformation is observed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new group of fluorescent pH-indicators for an extended pH-range

Summary The pH versus fluorescence intensity profiles of a series of new pH-indicators are reported. They are characterized by two pK_a-values in the 3.7–4.9 and 6.9–7.9 range, respectively. The strong change in fluorescence intensity with pH allows the determination of pH's over a much wider range (typically 2–9) than with one-step indicators. They are therefore considered to be of potential utility for measurement of pH over the neutral and slightly acidity range which occurs, for instance, in bioliquids such as urine.

Eine neue Gruppe fluorescierender pH-Indicatoren für einen erweiterten pH-Bereich

Zusammenfassung Die Fluorescenzintensitätsprofile als Funktion des pH-Wertes einer Reihe von neuen pH-Indicatoren werden untersucht. Sie sind charakterisiert durch zwei pK_a-Werte im Bereich 3,7–4,9 bzw. 6,9–7,9. Die gefundene starke Änderung der Fluorescenzintensität mit dem pH-Wert erlaubt eine pH-Bestimmung über einen viel weiteren Bereich (typischerweise 2 – 9) als mit einstufigen Indicatoren. Aus diesem Grund werden sie als potentiell nützlich angesehen zur Messung von pH-Werten im neutralen und schwach sauren Bereich, wie er z.B. in biologischen Flüssigkeiten, etwa im Urin, gegeben ist.

     

Confidence intervals for calibration with neural networks

Based on neural network calibration the confidence intervals of aromaticity determination from infrared reflectance spectra of raw brown coals were estimated by means of the bootstrap method, a simplified Monte Carlo Simulation. The standard deviations and the confidence intervals were estimated to characterise the analysis error.It is shown that confidence intervals of non-linear analysis methods like Back Propagation Neural Networks (BPNN) can be estimated by the bootstrap method. The estimated confidence intervals of the calibration confirm the analysis by BPNN.     

Die Papierchromatographie der kondensierten Phosphate

Zusammenfassung Es wird ein überblick über die Entwicklung der qualitativen und quantitativen Papierchromatographie der Phosphate gegeben. Zwei neue Flie\mittel, das Methanol- und das Dioxan-Flie\mittel, werden beschrieben, von denen das erste besonders für die rasche Durchführung qualitativer Analysen empfohlen wird. Schlie\lich werden genaue Anwendungsvorschriften auf Grund eigener langjÄhriger Erfahrungen mitgeteilt.Nach einem Vortrag des Verfassers anl\lich der Tagung des Chemischtechnischen Arbeitsausschusses des Verbandes deutscher Seifenfabrikanten und der Fachgruppen VI und VII der DGF am 17./18. Mai 1956 in Rothenburg o. T.Au\er dem bereits genannten Herrn Dr. Kubens hat sich in den letzten Jahren besonders Herr Alfred Goertz um die Ausarbeitung des Verfahrens verdient gemacht.     

Isolierung und Aminosäuresequenz von Substanz P aus Pferdedarm

The isolation and amino acid sequence of substance P from horse intestine is reported. The sequence, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH₂ is identical with the sequence reported for substance P isolated from bovine hypothalami.     

Zur krümmungsverwandtschaft von zwangläufen in affinen ck — Ebenen II

In part I we have studied a map of osculating elements of an affine Cayley-Klein (CK-) plane into the Lie algebra A₄(²) of the aequiform transformations A₄(²) of the given plane A₂(, ²). If we use the real projective space P₃() over A₄(²) each osculating element defines a straight line in P₃(). We now give a one parameter motion in A₄(²) and study second order properties and their analogon in the Lie algebra and P₃(), respectively. We show that the wellknown relationship between the points of the moving frame and the osculating circles of the point paths in the fixed frame may be interpreted as part of a quadratic map of certain straight Lines of P₃(). An analogous result holds for the curvature of pairs of envelopes; the mapV induced in P₃() than is contained in a cubic relationship of straight lines.

Computer controlled spreading resistance system for measurement of carrier concentration profiles of silicon structures

A new computer controlled equipment for carrier concentration profile determination of silicon structures by a spreading resistance technique is presented. The required data and plots can easily be obtained by means of a new software package, which has been specially developed for this purpose. Measurements have been performed on different structures in order to verify the suitability of both the measuring system and the software package. The reproducibility has been found to be within 5% for the investigated structures.     

Construction of functional porphyrin polystyrene nano-architectures by ATRP

A series of mono-functionalized metallo-porphyrin polystyrenes have been synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization and their self-assembling behavior was studied by electron microscopy showing that the polystyrene tail-length influences the aggregate architecture.
