Euphroside,A New Iridoid Glucoside from Euphrasia salisburgensis HOPPE

Five iridoid glucosides have been isolated from the whole plant of Euphrasia salisburgensis. The structure of the new compound, named euphroside, and the identity of the others have been established by chemical transformations and spectral data.

The title compound and the corresponding methyl ester have been synthesized in two steps starting from 4,7-dihydroxycoumarin. Both exhibit strong fluorescence in the visible. The wavelength of the maximum is dependent on solvent and pH of the solution. Emission is occurring from three species apparently: The first excited singlet state (at 445 nm), the excited anion (at 525 nm) and from a phototautomer at 468 nm. Solutions of the compound show laser activity.

Untersuchung der γ-Strahlung bei Einfang thermischer Neutronen in Sm149 mit der Summen-Koinzidenzmethode

Two-step cascades of neutron captureγ-rays of Sm¹⁴⁹ (n, γ) Sm¹⁵⁰ have been studied by means of the sum-coincidence method. 11 two-step transitions from the capturing state to the 0,33 and 0.77 MeV states were found. Most of them agree with the decay scheme ofGroshev et al., some are new. The relative intensities of the cascades were determined. No two-step transition from the capturing state to the ground state could be observed. Fig. 3 shows the main result.
