Specific heat and electrical resistivity of CeCu6 below 1 k

Results of measurements of the electrical resistivity ? between 0.04 and 1 K and the specific heat c_p between 0.06 and 1 K of annealed polycrystalline CeCu₆ are reported. ? varies proportional to T² below 0.1 K but is linear in T above 0.6 K. The specific heat is proportional to T below 0.5 K and the electronic specific-heat parameter $\text{γ = 1.53}\text{J}\text{mole}\text{K}{}^2$.     

Experimentelle Untersuchung über die Viskosität von lufthaltigem Schmieröl

Zusammenfassung Bei Durchlaufschmierung von Gleitlagern ist das von der Pumpe geförderte und den Lagern zugeführte Öl häufig mit Luftbläschen durchsetzt. Für das Betriebsverhallten von derart geschmierten Lagern ist der Einfluss de Luftgehaltes auf die dynamische Viskosität des Gemisches wesentlich. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird dieser Einfluss für ein gebräuchliches Turbomaschinen-Schmieröl an der laminaren Strömung in einem Kreisrohr theoretisch und experimentell untersucht. Es zeigte sich, dass bei tiefer Temperatur die Zähigkeit durch die Luftbeimischung reduziert und bei hoher Temperatur erhöht wird.

Summary The lubricating oil for hydrodynamic bearings supplied by a pump is often containing air in the form of tiny bubbles. Thus the bearings are lubricated with an oil/air-mixture instead of pure oil. The performance of such bearings depends on the influence of the air contents on the dynamic viscosity of the oil/air-mixture. It is the purpose of this paper to determine this influence through a theoretical and experimental investigation, examining an average lubricating oil for turbomachinery at laminar flow in a circular tube. It was found that at low temperatures the viscosity is reduced by the addition of air in the oil, while with higher temperatures the viscosity is increased. By introducing a dimensionless characteristic number for the flow of the oil with air bubbles, the results of the investigation can be given in dimensionless form.

     

First-order Kondo-frustated antiferromagnetic ordering in the heavy electron compound YbAs

¹⁷⁰Yb Mössbauer measurements show that the heavy electron compound YbAs undergoes a first order paramagnetic-antiferromagnetic transition centered at T_N=0.58K. The saturated 4f-shell magnetic moments are reduced by 47% relative to the value predicted by a crystal field model. A study of the line shapes below T_N in the presence of an external field shows that the RKKY exchange energy is about 20 times bigger than k_B T_N. These results show that YbAs presents a magnetic order frustrated by the Kondo effect.supported by CNPq     

Zur Kenntnis des Härtungsprozesses von Phenol-Formaldehyd-Harzen

Zusammenfassung Durch Hydrierung, Abbau und durch Vergleich des Verhaltens linearer Mehrkernverbindungen bei diesen Reaktionen wurde neuerdings experimentell geprüft, ob die annahme, daß gewisse Härtungsprodukte von Phenolalkoholen cyclische Struktur besitzen, zutrifft.     

The determination of the magnetic structure of DyCrO4 by neutron diffraction

At room temperature DyCrO₄ has the tetragonal zircon structure. Susceptibility measurements show that DyCrO₄ is ferromagnetic below 23 K. Neutron diffraction from a powder sample yield the magnetic structure. Using a computer program, which was developed for the determination of non-collinear and spiral structures, several models allowed by symmetry were compared with the experiment. It turns out that the Dy-moments and the Cr-moments as well order parallel in the a-b-plane. For the Dy-moment a value of 12μ_B and for the ratio of the Cr- to the Dy-moment a value of $\text{1}\text{10}$ was found.
