The influence of cancellous bone microstructure on the ultrasonic wave propagation of fast and slow waves was experimentally investigated. Four spherical cancellous bone specimens extracted from two bovine femora were prepared for the estimation of acoustical and structural anisotropies of cancellous bone. In vitro measurements were performed using a PVDF transducer (excited by a single sinusoidal wave at 1 MHz) by rotating the spherical specimens. In addition, the mean intercept length (MIL) and bone volume fraction (BV/TV) were estimated by X-ray micro-computed tomography. Separation of the fast and slow waves was clearly observed in two specimens. The fast wave speed was strongly dependent on the wave propagation direction, with the maximum speed along the main trabecular direction. The fast wave speed increased with the MIL. The slow wave speed, however, was almost constant. The fast wave speeds were statistically higher, and their amplitudes were statistically lower in the case of wave separation than in that of wave overlap.  相似文献

We report the first experimental demonstration of longitudinal compression of laser-accelerated electron pulses. Accelerated by a femtosecond laser pulse with an intensity of 101? W/cm2, an electron pulse with an energy of around 350 keV and a relative momentum spread of about 10?2 was compressed to a 500-fs pulse at a distance of about 50 cm from the electron source by using a magnetic pulse compressor. This pulse was used to generate a clear diffraction pattern of a gold crystal in a single shot. This method solves the space-charge problem in ultrafast electron diffraction.  相似文献

The surface structure of Ni2P (101?0), a model for highly active hydrodesulfurization catalysts, was studied using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) in order to understand the reconstruction of the surface layers. Annealing at 573 K revealed a (1 × 1) LEED pattern which changed to a c(2 × 4) arrangement by further heating to 723 K. Atomic scale STM images were obtained for both the (1 × 1) and c(2 × 4) structures. Bright spots observed in the STM images were interpreted to be due to surface phosphorus atoms and this was supported by a density functional theory (DFT) simulation. Several possible models for the c(2 × 4) reconstructed structures were proposed including a P-dimer defect model, a missing-row model and a missing-row + added-row model. The last model gave the best explanation for the c(2 × 4)structure. The mechanism for the c(2 × 4) reconstruction on the Ni2P (101?0) surface is discussed.  相似文献

The ultrafast electron transfer occurring upon Soret excitation of three new porphyrin-ferrocene (XP-Fc) dyads has been studied by femtosecond up-conversion and pump-probe techniques. In the XP-Fc dyads (XP-Fcs) designed in this study, the ferrocene moiety is covalently bonded to the meso positions of 3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl zinc porphyrin (BPZnP-Fc), pentafluorophenyl zinc porphyrin (FPZnP-Fc), and 3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl free-base porphyrin (BPH2P-Fc). Charge separation and recombination in the XP-Fcs were confirmed by transient absorption spectra, and the lifetimes of the charge-separated states were estimated from the decay rate of the porphyrin radical anion band to be approximately 20 ps. The charge-separation rates of the XP-Fcs were found to be >10(13) s-1 from the S2 state and 6.3x10(12) s-1 from the S1 state. Charge separation from the S2 state was particularly efficient for BPZnP-Fc, whereas the main reaction pathway was from the S1 state for BPH2P-Fc. Charge separation from the S2 and S1 states occurred at virtually the same rate in benzene and tetrahydrofuran and was much faster than their solvation times. Analysis of these results using semiquantum Marcus theory indicates that the magnitude of the electronic-tunneling matrix element is rather large and far outside the range of nonadiabatic approximation. The pump-probe data show the presence of vibrational coherence during the reactions, suggesting that wavepacket dynamics on the adiabatic potential energy surface might regulate the ultrafast reactions.  相似文献

The retardation of two quarter-wave plates designed for a particular wavelength decreases or increases in accordance with the wavelength of input light beam. Compensating the shifted retardation at each measurement wavelength allows us to get Mueller matrices of samples at different wavelengths without exchanging the plates. Initial orientation errors of two plates and an analyzer, which remain constant through all wavelengths, are also taken into consideration. The availability and accuracy of this polarimeter is assessed by measurement of a quarter-wave plate designed for 632.8 nm wavelength. The results show that this system is very attractive to measure optical properties and dispersion in samples.  相似文献

Graphene growth of mono-, bi- and tri-layers on Ni(111) through surface segregation was observed in situ by low energy electron microscopy. The carbon segregation was controlled by adjusting substrate temperature from 1200 K to 1050 K. After the completion of the first layer at 1125 K, the second layer grew at the interface between the first-layer and the substrate at 1050 K. The third layer also started to grow at the same temperature, 1050 K. All the layers exhibited a 1 × 1 atomic structure. The edges of the first-layer islands were straight lines, reflecting the hexagonal atomic structure. On the other hand, the shapes of the second-layer islands were dendritic. The edges of the third-layer islands were again straight lines similar to those of the first-layer islands. The phenomena presumably originate from the changes of interfacial-bond strength of the graphene to Ni substrate depending on the graphene thickness. No nucleation site of graphene layers was directly observed. All the layers expanded out of the field of view and covered the surface. The number of nucleation sites is extremely small on Ni(111) surface. This finding might open the way to grow the high quality, single-domain graphene crystals.  相似文献

An ultra-high resolution spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) was developed using a cost-effective supercontinuum laser. A spectral filter consists of a dispersive prism, a cylindrical lens and a right-angle prism was built to transmit the wavelengths in range 680–940 nm to the OCT system. The SD-OCT has achieved 1.9 μm axial resolution and the sensitivity was estimated to be 91.5 dB. A zero-crossing fringes matching method which maps the wavelengths to the pixel indices of the spectrometer was proposed for the OCT spectral calibration. A double sided foam tape as a static sample and the tip of a middle finger as a biological sample were measured by the OCT. The adhesive and the internal structure of the foam of the tape were successfully visualized in three dimensions. Sweat ducts was clearly observed in the OCT images at very high resolution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of ultra-high resolution visualization of sweat duct by OCT.  相似文献

To clarify the contributions of spin-polarized current and spin accumulation to the current-induced magnetization switching, the effects of the top electrode size of the magnetic nanopillar are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical calculation demonstrates that the spin-polarized current and the spin accumulation can be adjusted in opposite directions by modifying the size of the top electrode. Increase in the size of the top electrode suppresses the spin accumulation but enhances the spin-polarized current inside the nanopillar. On the other hand, it is shown experimentally that the nanopillar with a wide top electrode exhibits small critical switching current compared to the nanopillar with a narrow top electrode. The results suggest that the spin-polarized current contributes to the current-induced magnetization switching dominantly over the spin accumulation.  相似文献

Ultrasonic wave properties (attenuation and velocity) in the particle compounded agarose gels have been experimentally studied in the range from 1 to 30 MHz. The particles used were talc, glass beads and graphite. The effects of size and volume concentration of particles were clearly observed as changes of ultrasonic wave properties. Applying the Urick's theory for viscous liquid suspensions, the specific curves of velocity in the gels were observed as a function of a beta, where a is the radius of the particles and beta is described by angular frequency omega, density rho and fluid viscosity eta. This indicates that the particle behavior in the gels seems to be similar with that in the viscous fluid. The estimated eta in the gels was higher than that of the free water, showing the high viscosity in the gels.  相似文献

We present a novel scheme to measure sound velocity of shock-compressed iron of geophysical interest. The sound velocity of laser-irradiated iron foils was obtained with side-on X-ray radiograph technique from measured rarefaction wave velocity of shocked iron. Iron foils were irradiated with a two-stepped square laser pulse to reach Earth's core condition by double compression. The experimental parameters of temperature and pressure were very close to the Earth's core condition.  相似文献
