Reactions of 2-methyleneadamantane and 2-benzylideneadamantane with acetyl nitrate

The reactions of 2-methylene- and 2-benzylideneadamantane with acetyl nitrate have been studied. In the case of 2-methyleneadamantane, the reaction proceeds via addition of nitronium cation at the double bond followed by stabilization of 2-nitromethyl-2-adamantyl carbocation. In the case of 2-benzylidenadamantane, ortho-substitution at the benzene ring occurred predominantly.     

Synthesis of 4-(1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-Azol-1-ylmethyl)benzohydrazides and Their Acyclic and Heterocyclic Derivatives

4-(1H-Azol-1-ylmethyl)benzohydrazides were prepared from methyl 4-(bromomethyl)benzoate, azoles, and hydrazine hydrate. Reactions of 4-(1H-imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzohydrazide with carbonyl compounds gave hydrazones whose tautomerism was studied. Synthesis of 14 h-naphtho[1',2':5,6][1,3]oxazino-[3,2-<Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>]benzimidazole,a new heterocyclic system

The previously unreported 14 H-naphtho[1',2':5,6][1,3]oxazino[3,2-a]benzimidazole heterocyclic system was synthesized by the condensation of 1-dimethylaminomethyl-2-naphthols and 2-methyl-sulfanylbenzimidazole. A highly reactive o-methylenequinone derivative of naphthalene is proposed as an intermediate in this reaction.
