To clarify the nature of the propagating species in cationic polymerization of styrene catalyzed by acetyl perchlorate, the molecular weight distribution of the polymer was investigated under various conditions. The molecular weight distribution curve for the polymer obtained in methylene chloride at 0°C showed a double peak phenomenon. This suggests that two or more kinds of propagating species participate simultaneously in the propagation reaction. The weight fraction W(H) of the polymer corresponding to the higher molecular weight peak increased with increasing polarity of the solvent. W(H) decreased when the concentration of the ionic species was increased either by an increase of the catalyst concentration or by the addition of the common salt such as tetra-n-butylammonium perchlorate. On the other hand, the position of the peak in the molecular weight distribution curve was independent of polymerization conditions. It was concluded that the higher molecular weight part of the polymer was produced under conditions for conductive to dissociation of the propagating species and the less dissociated propagating species was responsible for the lower molecular weight part of the polymer. 相似文献

A new method to determine N-terminal amino acid sequences of multiple proteins at low pmol level by a parallel processing has been developed. The method contains the following five steps: (1) reduction, S-alkylation and guanidination for targeted proteins; (2) coupling with sulfosucccimidyl-2-(biotinamido)ethyl-1,3-dithiopropionate(sulfo-NHS-SS-biotin) to N(alpha)-amino groups of proteins; (3) digestion of the modified proteins by an appropriate protease; (4) specific isolation of N-terminal fragments of proteins by affinity capture using the biotin-avidin system; (5) de novo sequence analysis of peptides by MALDI-TOF-/MALDI-TOF-PSD mass spectrometry with effective utilization of the CAF (chemically assisted fragmentation) method.1 This method is also effective for N-terminal sequencing of each protein in a mixture of several proteins, and for sequencing components of a multiprotein complex. Covalently linked vancomycin dimers have attracted a great deal of attention among researchers because of their enhanced antibacterial activity against vancomycin‐resistant strains. However, the lack of a clear insight into the mechanisms of action of these dimers hampers rational optimization of their antibacterial potency. Here, we describe the synthesis and antibacterial activity of novel vancomycin dimers with a constrained molecular conformation achieved by two tethers between vancomycin units. Conformational restriction is a useful strategy for studying the relationship between the molecular topology and biological activity of compounds. In this study, two vancomycin units were linked at three distinct positions of the glycopeptide (vancosamine residue (V), C terminus (C), and N terminus (N)) to form two types of novel vancomycin cyclic dimers. Active NC‐VV‐linked dimers with a stable conformation as indicated by molecular mechanics calculations selectively suppressed the peptidoglycan polymerization reaction of vancomycin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. In addition, double‐disk diffusion tests indicated that the antibacterial activity of these dimers against vancomycin‐resistant enterococci might arise from the inhibition of enzymes responsible for peptidoglycan polymerization. These findings provide a new insight into the biological targets of vancomycin dimers and the conformational requirements for efficient antibacterial activity against vancomycin‐resistant strains. 相似文献

The wave-splitting phase-shifting digital holography using a pixelated microretarder array is proposed. By using four intensity images recorded by the pixelated microretarder array, Stokes parameters of the incident wave can be calculated. The fully complex amplitude distribution of the object wave can be obtained by using Stokes parameters, if the polarization states of the object and reference waves are linear and orthogonal. Two sets of experimental results are provided to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. The halogen bond has been widely used as an important supramolecular tool in various research areas. However, there are relatively few studies on halogen bonding related to molecular chirality. 3-(2-Halophenyl)quinazoline-4-thione derivatives have stable atropisomeric structures due to the rotational restriction around an N-C single bond. In X-ray single crystal structures of the racemic and optically pure N-C axially chiral quinazoline-4-thiones, we found that different types of intermolecular halogen bonds (C=S⋯X) are formed. That is, in the racemic crystals, the intermolecular halogen bond between the ortho-halogen atom and sulfur atom was found to be oriented in a periplanar conformation toward the thiocarbonyl plane, leading to a syndiotactic zig-zag array. On the other hand, the halogen bond in the enantiomerically pure crystals was oriented orthogonally toward the thiocarbonyl plane, resulting in the formation of a homochiral dimer. These results indicate that the corresponding racemic and optically pure forms in chiral molecules are expected to display different halogen bonding properties, respectively, and should be separately studied as different chemical entities. 相似文献

Artificial nucleic acids are widely used in various technologies, such as nucleic acid therapeutics and DNA nanotechnologies requiring excellent duplex-forming abilities and enhanced nuclease resistance. 2′-O,4′-C-Methylene-bridged nucleic acid/locked nucleic acid (2′,4′-BNA/LNA) with 1,3-diaza-2-oxophenoxazine (BNAP ( BH )) was previously reported. Herein, a novel BH analogue, 2′,4′-BNA/LNA with 9-(2-aminoethoxy)-1,3-diaza-2-oxophenoxazine (G-clamp), named BNAP-AEO ( BAEO ), was designed. The BAEO nucleoside was successfully synthesized and incorporated into oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs). ODNs containing BAEO possessed up to 104-, 152-, and 11-fold higher binding affinities for complementary (c) RNA than those of ODNs containing 2′-deoxycytidine ( C ), 2′,4′-BNA/LNA with 5-methylcytosine ( L ), or 2′-deoxyribonucleoside with G-clamp ( PAEO ), respectively. Moreover, duplexes formed by ODN bearing BAEO with cDNA and cRNA were thermally stable, even under molecular crowding conditions induced by the addition of polyethylene glycol. Ozonolysis of cis- and trans-2-butene isomers were carried out in a 570 l spherical glass vessel in 730 torr synthetic air at 295 ± 3 K. The initial concentrations were 5 to 10 ppmv for the isomers and 2 to 5 ppmv for ozone. Quantitative yields were determined by FTIR spectroscopy for CH3CHO, HCHO, CH4, CH3OH, CO, and CO2. By means of computational subtraction of the spectral contribution of the identified products from the product spectra, residual spectra have been obtained. Formation of 2-butene ozonide, propene ozonide, and l-hydroperoxyethyl formate CH3CH(OOH)(SINGLE BOND)O(SINGLE BOND)CH(O) have been identified in the residual spectra. These products have been shown to be formed in the reactions of the Criegee intermediate CH3CHOO with CH3CHO, HCHO, and HCOOH, respectively. The phenomena of aggregation and coalescence of fullerenes in the UV-laser ablation time-of-flight mass spectrometric investigation of C60-modified poly(N-vinylcarbazole) both in the positive and in the negative ion channels have been observed. The results indicate that in C60 chemically modified PVK (C60–PVK) copolymer the nascent fullerene fragments ruptured from main chain can easily coalesce into large fullerenes through collisions, whereas in the C60-doped PVK the aggregation and coalescence of C60 were relative weak due to nonbounding action and incomplete charge transfer behavior between C60 and PVK. Furthermore, the photoinduced electron transfer behavior between C60 and carbazole units in the C60 chemically modified poly(N-vinylcarbazole) in benzonitrile by laser flash photolysis at 355 nm has also been investigated. Efficiency of the anion radical of C60 in copolymer at 1080 nm is higher than that of the C60-doped poly(N-vinylcarbazole) polymers. Cyclopolymerization of benzaldehyde divinyl acetal ( 1 ) and 1,2-divinyloxybenzene ( 4 ) was carried out using (+)- or (−)-camphorsulfonic acid [(+)- or (−)- 2 ]/ZnCl2 initiating system. Polymer 3 obtained from monomer 1 consisted essentially of cyclic repeating units, whereas polymer 5 from 4 possessed a small amount of residual vinyloxy groups. Both polymers 3 and 5 using (+)- 2 /ZnCl2 showed optical activity with a negative sign of optical rotation. The molar optical rotation values of polymer 3 using ZnCl2 · OEt2 were larger than those using ZnCl2. The CD spectra of the polymer with [Φ] = −30.1° ((−)- 3 ) and (4S,6S)-4,6-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxane showed a negative Cotton effect at 210 nm, whereas the polymer with [Φ] = +24.1° ((+)- 3 ) and (4R,6R)-4,6-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxane had mirror image CD curves with a positive Cotton effect at 210 nm. The absolute configurations of the major chiral cyclic units in (−)- and (+)- 3 were the SS- and RR-forms, respectively. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献
