We present a new phase element which has the same optical properties as those of the amplitude sampling filter but it can use theoretically all the incident light for multiple image formation. The paper discusses a design method of the element and a diffraction efficiency of its structure obtained in a lithographic process. Summary: Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM‐D) is employed to determine the effect of salt on the volume phase transition of thermoresponsive polymer brushes. Changes in mass and viscoelasticity of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) layers grafted from a QCM‐D crystal are measured as a function of temperature, upon contact with aqueous solutions of varying salt concentrations. The phase‐transition temperature of PNIPAM brushes, TC,graft, quantified from the QCM‐D measurements is found to decrease as the concentration of salt is increased. This phenomenon is explained by the tendency of salt ions to affect the structure of water molecules (Hofmeister effect). However, in contrast to the linear decrease in phase‐transition temperature upon increasing salt concentration observed for free PNIPAM, the trend in TC,graft for PNIPAM brushes is distinctively non‐linear.

The electron-stimulated desorption (ESD) of D+ from microporous D2O ice films condensed on Pt(111) has been investigated. The total D+ yield as a function of temperature from 90–180 K depends sensitively on the film roughness, surface temperature and ice phase. In particular, we observe an irreversible increase in the cation yield as the microporous thin film is heated from 90–120 K, which we associate with a decrease in surface roughness as the micropores collapse. We present evidence which suggests that the number of surface sites available for emission, the surface roughness, and reneutralization or reactive scattering of the D+ desorbate play major roles in determining the ion yield. A simple model which qualitatively addresses the role of surface roughening on ESD ion yields shows good agreement with the data. 相似文献

This article gives necessary and sufficient conditions for local solutions to several very general constrained optimization problems over spaces of analytic functions.The results presented here have many applications, a particular instance of which is the sup-norm approximation of functions continuous on the unit circle in the complex plane by functions continuous on the circle and analytic on the open disk and whose Fourier coefficients satisfy prescribed linear relations.Also, the results in this article generalize Nevanlinna-Pick and Caratheodory-Fejer Interpolation results to allow values of arbitrary derivatives of functions to be assigned or merely bounded. Classically, NP and CF solve only problems with consecutive derivatives specified.In engineering, constraints on the Fourier coefficients of a frequency response function correspond to constraints on its time domain behavior. Indeed the central problems of control theory involve both time and frequency domain constraints. Biosynthetic studies have shown that pheomelanins, the distinctive pigments of red human hair, arise from oxidative polymerization of cysteinyldopas via 1,4-benzothiazinylalanine intermediates. However, the mode of formation of the pigment polymer remains controversial. To address this point, we have investigated the conversion of the major biosynthetic precursor 5-S-cysteinyldopa (2a) to pheomelanin under biomimetic conditions. Peroxidase/H(2)O(2) oxidation of 2a was shown to lead in the early stages to the 1,4-benzothiazinylalanine 8a, which rapidly declines with concomitant formation of a distinct pattern of oligomeric products. Reduction of the reaction mixture at this stage allowed the isolation of dimer 17 in 10% yield, along with trimers 18 and 19 in smaller amounts. A restricted rotation about the ethereal C-O bond of 17 was apparent by the presence of two NMR-detectable conformational isomers, separated by an activation energy barrier of 17.83 +/- 0.03 kcal mol(-)(1). Under similar oxidation conditions, the model catechol 2b gave the related dimers 15 and 16. The structure of oligomers 17-19, all characterized by C-C and C-O bonds between the benzothiazine units, would suggest that the peroxidase-promoted polymerization proceeds by phenol-type coupling of an aryloxy radical generated by initial one-electron oxidation of 8a. Overall, these results point to a structural model for the pheomelanin polymer which is basically different from that proposed on the basis of degradative studies. 相似文献

Application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods for the structural characterization to larger and more complex protein systems can be facilitated through the development of new methods for resonance assignment. Here, a novel approach that relies on integration of NMR and mass spectrometry (MS) methods is explored. The approach relies on the fact that both NMR and MS are able to monitor rates of exchange of amide protons for water deuterons. Correlating the rates can connect cross-peak positions from NMR data with fragment masses from MS data to support sequential assignment. The example provided is for a small model protein, ubiquitin, but the potential for application to large, more difficult to express proteins is clear. 相似文献
