Conductometry was employed to study the phase evolution of calcium phosphate compounds during the wet-chemical synthesis of hydroxyapatite (HA). Calcium hydroxide and orthophosphoric acid were used to prepare HA at various temperatures ranging from 30 to 95 degrees C. The electrical conductivity and pH of the reaction mixture were measured at regular intervals of time during acid addition, and the rate of change of conductivity was used to decipher the end point of the reaction. Our previous studies have shown that the end product of this reaction route yields mildly carbonated crystalline HA. The trend of the change in conductivity with time was similar at all temperatures. The conductivity curves were divided into three regions based on the variation in slope of the curves. The slope of the curves decreased with increasing temperatures in the first two regions, and the slope is greater in the second region than in the first. From the conductivity and pH measurement results, the possible precursor phase was identified and it had the composition Ca(3)(PO(4))(2). The kinetics of phase transformation was also analyzed and compared to previous work. The similarities between this work and the traditionally adapted experimental work for phase formation and transformation kinetics are highlighted, and the novelty in the current work is discussed. 相似文献

The two-dimensional incompressible fluid flow problems governed by the velocity–vorticity formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations were solved using the radial basis integral (RBIE) equation method. The RBIE is a meshless method based on the multi-domain boundary element method with overlapping subdomains. It solves at each node for the potential and its spatial derivatives. This feature of the RBIE is advantageous in solving the velocity–vorticity formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations since the calculated velocity gradients can be used to compute the vorticity that is prescribed as a boundary condition to the vorticity transport equation. The accuracy of the numerical solution was examined by solving the test problem with known analytical solution. Two benchmark problems, i.e. the lid driven cavity flow and the thermally driven cavity flow were also solved. The numerical results obtained using the RBIE showed very good agreement with the benchmark solutions. 相似文献

The aqueous solution chemistry of niobium is underexplored, and well characterized aqua complexes are scarce. In this contribution, a new niobium aqua complex was obtained by treatment of Zn‐reduced ethanolic solution of NbCl5 with HCl in the presence of a selenide source (ZnSe). This is the first example of selenium containing aqua complex of niobium. The yellow‐green aqua complex was isolated by cation‐exchange chromatography and transformed into corresponding isothiocyanate complex by ligand exchange, which was crystallized as (PyH)4.5[H1.5Nb4SeO5(NCS)10] · 0.5H2O. X‐ray structural analysis revealed a metal‐metal bonded tetranuclear {Nb4(μ4‐Se)(μ2‐O)5}4+ core with a capping μ4‐Se ligand. 相似文献

Two homologous series of λ-shaped chiral liquid crystal trimers composed of a laterally substituted benzylidene-aniline as the central core armed by two cholestryl ester moieties via odd-even alkyl spacer are synthesised. All the compounds are mesogenic exhibiting both chiral nematic (N*) and SmA phases except for trimers bearing long spacers (n = 9–10). A pronounced odd-even effect is observed on the phase transition temperatures and clearing enthalpies when the spacer length is varied in which the even-parity members show higher value. The widening of N* phase upon elongation of the alkyl spacer can be interpreted as a result of the destabilisation of SmA phase. Full recrystallisation from the cholesteric phase upon cooling is not observed for all the compounds bearing long spacer, especially oxydecanoyl spacer. Instead, the anisotropic fluid vitrified to form the cholesteric glassy state characteristic of polymer at low temperature. This finding is also evident from the polarising optical microscope whereby non-crystalline texture which resembles the Grandjean texture with various reflection colours is observed upon cooling to low temperature. The effect of the lateral substituents on the liquid-crystalline behaviour is also discussed. 相似文献

The aim of this work is to understand the molecular evolution of iron-sulfur clusters in terms of electronic structure and function. Metal-substituted models of biological [Fe(4)S(4)] clusters in oxidation states [M(x)Fe(4-x)S(4)](3+/2+/1+) have been studied by density functional theory (M = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Pd, with x = 1 or 2). Most of these clusters have not been characterized before. For those that have been characterized experimentally, very good agreement is obtained, implying that also the predicted structures and properties of new clusters are accurate. Mean absolute errors are 0.024 A for bond lengths ([Fe(4)S(4)], [NiFe(3)S(4)], [CoFe(3)S(4)]) and 0.09 V for shifts in reduction potentials relative to the [Fe(4)S(4)] cluster. All structures form cuboidal geometries similar to the all-iron clusters, except the Pd-substituted clusters, which instead form highly distorted trigonal and tetragonal local sites in compromised, pseudocuboidal geometries. In contrast to other electron-transfer sites, cytochromes, blue copper proteins, and smaller iron-sulfur clusters, we find that the [Fe(4)S(4)] clusters are very insensitive to metal substitution, displaying quite small changes in reorganization energies and reduction potentials upon substitution. Thus, the [Fe(4)S(4)] clusters have an evolutionary advantage in being robust to pollution from other metals, still retaining function. We analyze in detail the electronic structure of individual clusters and rationalize spin couplings and redox activity. Often, several configurations are very close in energy, implying possible use as spin-crossover systems, and spin states are predicted accurately in all but one case ([CuFe(3)S(4)]). A chiral ammonium betaine, an intramolecular ion-pairing quaternary ammonium aryloxide 3, has been designed and its vast potential as an enantioselective organic base catalyst has been successfully demonstrated in the highly enantioselective direct Mannich-type reaction of alpha-substituted alpha-nitrocarboxylates 2 with various N-Boc imines 1. Poly(ethylene glycol) possessing pentaethylenehexamine at one end (N6-PEG) was prepared via a reductive amination reaction of aldehyde-ended PEG with pentaethylenehexamine. Using N6-PEG, an antibody/PEG co-immobilized surface was constructed on magnetic particles via an active ester reaction method. After immobilization of the antibody on the active ester surface, N6-PEG was reacted on the magnetic beads. A sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) system was newly constructed using PEG/antibody co-immobilized magnetic beads combined with an alkaline phosphatase (ALP)-assisted fluorescent detection system using alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) as a model antigen. The co-immobilization of both antibody and PEG on the magnetic bead surfaces reduced the nonspecific adsorption of proteins from cell lysates. Especially, when the magnetic particle surface was modified by N6-PEG mixtures with different molecular weights of 6000 and 2500 (6 kDa:2.5 kDa=9:1 w/w), the nonspecific adsorption of proteins was strongly suppressed. It is rather surprising for us that the sensitivity of the antibody on the surface was enhanced significantly when the PEG tethered chain was constructed in between the surface antibodies. Consequently, the mixed N6-PEG treatment showed a much higher S/N ratio than for the corresponding beads treated with bovine serum albumin (BSA), a conventional blocking reagent. Actually, when alpha-fetoprotein was analyzed by the magnetic bead-assisted ELISA thus constructed, the S/N ratio was about 20-fold higher for the mixed coating with PEG (6 kDa):PEG (2.5 kDa)=9:1, compared to the conventional BSA. 相似文献
