Stationary Coverage of a Stochastic Adsorption–Desorption Process with Diffusional Relaxation

We show that it is possible to derive the stationary coverage of an adsorption–desorption process of dimers with diffusional relaxation with a very simple ansatz for the stationary distribution of the process supplemented by a hypothesis of global balance. Our approach is compared to the exact result and we seek to understand its validity within an instance of the model.     

Conditions for equality of decomposable symmetric tensors. II.

We derive consequences of a condition for the equality of two star products given by the second author. We also study another method for the same problem which consists of comparing the components, in an appropriate basis, of the star products involved.     

Model calculation of binding energies for multihole copper centers in germanium

Multihole binding energies of copper centers in germanium are calculated within a pseudoatom variational scheme in which a Heine-Abarenkov-type model potential is used as the impurity potential. Screening the hole-hole interaction by a position-dependent dielectric function is found to be crucial in understanding the observed multihole binding energies.     

Study of 19Na at SPIRAL

The excitation function for the elastic-scattering reaction p( ¹⁸Ne, p) ¹⁸Ne was measured with the first radioactive beam from the SPIRAL facility at the GANIL laboratory and with a solid cryogenic hydrogen target. Several broad resonances have been observed, corresponding to new excited states in the unbound nucleus ¹⁹Na. In addition, two-proton emission events have been identified and are discussed.     

First observation of 54Zn and its decay by two-proton emission

The nucleus 54Zn has been observed for the first time in an experiment at the SISSI/LISE3 facility of GANIL in the quasifragmentation of a 58Ni beam at 74.5 MeV/nucleon in a (nat)Ni target. The fragments were analyzed by means of the ALPHA-LISE3 separator and implanted in a silicon-strip detector where correlations in space and time between implantation and subsequent decay events allowed us to generate almost background free decay spectra for about 25 different nuclei at the same time. Eight 54Zn implantation events were observed. From the correlated decay events, the half-life of 54Zn is determined to be 3.2(+1.8)(-0.8) ms. Seven of the eight implantations are followed by two-proton emission with a decay energy of 1.48(2) MeV. The decay energy and the partial half-life are compared to model predictions and allow for a test of these two-proton decay models.
