A frequency-doubled laser diode system for generation of blue–UV light is described. The system is based on an external-cavity high-power laser diode with double feedback from the zeroth and the first orders of a diffraction grating. Light at 405 nm is generated in a single-pass configuration using periodically poled KTiOPO4. We show that the double grating feedback improves the second harmonic conversion efficiency by several orders of magnitude as compared to the freely running laser. The conversion efficiency may be improved further such that higher second-harmonic powers may be generated. 相似文献

By combining ab initio results for the electronic structure and phonon spectrum with the group theory, we establish the origin of the Verwey transition in Fe3O4. Two primary order parameters with X3 and Delta5 symmetries are identified. They induce the phase transformation from the high-temperature cubic to the low-temperature monoclinic structure. The on-site Coulomb interaction U between 3d electrons at Fe ions plays a crucial role in this transition--it amplifies the coupling of phonons to conduction electrons and thus opens a gap at the Fermi energy. 相似文献

Ultraviolet light can be used to immobilize biomolecules onto thiol reactive surfaces in order to, e.g., make biosensors. The mechanism involves light-induced formation of free, reactive thiol groups in disulphide containing molecules. This technology allows for the creation of arrays of biomolecules with a high degree of reproducibility, circumventing the need for often expensive nano/micro-dispensing technologies. The ultimate size of the immobilized spots is defined by the focal area of the UV beam. Light-induced immobilization has the added benefit that the immobilized molecules will be spatially oriented and covalently bound to the surface. In this paper, we demonstrate the utility of a sensor array created with the new sensor technology when integrated into a microfluidic system. Protein arrays made using light-induced immobilization showed successful antigen/antibody binding in a flow cell allowing the visualisation of real time binding and enzyme activity. This new technology is ideal for the creation of protein/DNA microarrays, can replace present micro-dispensing arraying technologies and is ideal as a molecular imprinting technology. 相似文献

Monolayers of the organic molecules perylene-3,4,9,10-tetra-carboxylic-dianhydride (PTCDA) and diimide (PTCDI) on graphite and MoS2 have been imaged with scanning tunneling microscopy. The epitaxial growth of the two molecules is determined by the intermolecular interaction but nearly independent of the substrate. On both substrates the STM image contrast in the submolecularly resolved images is dominated by the aromatic perylene system whereas the polar oxygen and nitrogen groups are invisible. The correlation of the observed inner structure of the molecules to their molecular structure allows us to compare our results with theoretical considerations. 相似文献

Freehand 3D ultrasound is increasingly being introduced in the clinic for diagnostics and image-assisted interventions. Various algorithms exist for combining 2D images of regular ultrasound probes to 3D volumes, being either voxel-, pixel- or function-based. Previously, the most commonly used input to 3D ultrasound reconstruction has been digitized analog video. However, recent scanners that offer access to digital image frames exist, either as processed or unprocessed data. To our knowledge, no comparison has been performed to determine which data source gives the best reconstruction quality. In the present study we compared both reconstruction algorithms and data sources using novel comparison methods for detecting potential differences in image quality of the reconstructed volumes. The ultrasound scanner used in this study was the Sonix RP from Ultrasonix Medical Corp (Richmond, Canada), a scanner that allow third party access to unprocessed and processed digital data. The ultrasound probe used was the L14-5/38 linear probe. The assessment is based on a number of image criteria: detectability of wire targets, spatial resolution, detectability of small barely visible structures, subjective tissue image quality, and volume geometry. In addition we have also performed the more “traditional” comparison of reconstructed volumes by removing a percentage of the input data. By using these evaluation methods and data from the specific scanner, the results showed that the processed video performed better than the digital scan-line data, digital video being better than analog video. The accurate temperature measurement of solid samples under magic-angle spinning (MAS) is difficult in the cryogenic regime. It has been demonstrated by Thurber et al. (J. Magn. Reson., 196 (2009) 84-87) [10] that the temperature dependent spin-lattice relaxation time constant of 79Br in KBr powder can be useful for measuring sample temperature under MAS over a wide temperature range (20–296 K). However the value of T1 exceeds 3 min at temperatures below 20 K, which is inconveniently long. In this communication, we show that the spin-lattice relaxation time constant of 127I in CsI powder can be used to accurately measure sample temperature under MAS within a reasonable experimental time down to 10 K. 相似文献

We have developed an ultra-stable source in the deep ultraviolet, suitable to fulfil the interrogation requirements of a future fully-operational lattice clock based on neutral mercury. At the core of the system is a Fabry–Pérot cavity which is highly impervious to temperature and vibrational perturbations. The mirror substrate is made of fused silica in order to exploit the comparatively low thermal noise limits associated with this material. By stabilizing the frequency of a 1062.6 nm Yb-doped fiber laser to the cavity, and including an additional link to LNE-SYRTE’s fountain primary frequency standards via an optical frequency comb, we produce a signal which is both stable at the 10?15 level in fractional terms and referenced to primary frequency standards. The signal is subsequently amplified and frequency-doubled twice to produce several milliwatts of interrogation signal at 265.6 nm in the deep ultraviolet. 相似文献

We study systems with a continuous phase transition that tune their parameters to maximize a quantity that diverges solely at a unique critical point. Varying the size of these systems with dynamically adjusting parameters, the same finite-size scaling is observed as in systems where all relevant parameters are fixed at their critical values. This scheme is studied using a self-tuning variant of the Ising model. It is contrasted with a scheme where systems approach criticality through a target value for the order parameter that vanishes with increasing system size. In the former scheme, the universal exponents are observed in naïve finite-size scaling studies, whereas in the latter they are not. 相似文献

We study the mode solution to the Cauchy problem of the scalar wave equation □φ = 0 in Kasner spacetimes. As a first result, we give the explicit mode solution in axisymmetric Kasner spacetimes, of which flat Kasner spacetimes are special cases. Furthermore, we give the small and large time asymptotics of the modes in general Kasner spacetimes. Generically, the modes in non-flat Kasner spacetimes grow logarithmically for small times, while the modes in flat Kasner spacetimes stay bounded for small times. For large times, however, the modes in general Kasner spacetimes oscillate with a polynomially decreasing amplitude. This gives a notion of large time frequency of the modes, which we use to model the wavelength of light rays in Kasner spacetimes.
