Cirsium brevicaule A. GRAY is a wild perennial herb, and its roots (CbR) have traditionally been used as both food and medicine on the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Amami. The present study evaluated the antiadipogenic effect of CbR using mouse embryonic fibroblast cell line 3T3-L1 from JCRB cell bank. Dried CbR powder was serially extracted with solvents of various polarities, and these crude extracts were tested for antiadipogenic activity. Treatment with the methanol extract of CbR showed a significant suppression of lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells. Methanol extract of CbR was then fractionated and subjected to further activity analyses. The phenylpropanoid glycosidic molecule syringin was identified as an active compound. Syringin dose dependently suppressed lipid accumulation of 3T3-L1 cells without cytotoxicity, and significantly reduced the expressions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma, the master regulator of adipogenesis, and other differentiation markers. It was demonstrated that syringin effectively enhanced the phosphorylation of the AMP-activated protein kinase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase. These results indicate that syringin attenuates adipocyte differentiation, adipogenesis, and promotes lipid metabolism; thus, syringin may potentially serve as a therapeutic candidate for treatment of obesity.  相似文献

Lithium tetraborate single crystal doped with Cu seems to be a promising new material for neutron detection. With the presence of Li and B, both having large cross section for neutron capture, efficient neutron detection is expected with high-energy deposits. In the present work, we chose 14 different dopants from Ia, Ib, IIIa, IVa and Va groups in the periodic table besides the rare earth Ce ion. The crystals were grown to a size of 20 mm in diameter and 70 mm in length by vertical Bridgman method. The grown crystals were characterized by optical transmittance and excitation–emission studies. Transmittance and emission characteristics of Ce-doped lithium borate glass are also reported.  相似文献

Summary Oxidation-reduction titration methods, Fe2+-Cr2C 7 2– and I-S2O 3 2– , were applied to the determination of the oxidation state of copper in the superconductor YBa2Cu3O y , and related compounds. The former method presented problems in the sample dissolution and titration steps. The dissolution of the sample in low concentrations of Fe+-phosphoric acid and Fe2+-perchloric acid takes place in two steps, the oxidation of Fe2+ to Fe3+ and the liberation of oxygen gas, when the liberation results in low analytical values for Cu+. In addition the coexistence of cuprous ion and acids induces the oxidation of ferrous ion by dissolved oxygen and air. The problems were resolved by dissolution in 0.1 mol/l Fe2+-phosphoric acid and titration in an argon atmosphere. The latter method gave good results by controlling the amounts of potassium chloride, the concentration of acetic acid, and by elimination of the dissolved oxygen in acetic acid solution. The results of the two titration methods coincided with each other.

Boron nitride (BN) nanotubes, nanohorns, nanocoils were synthesized by annealing Fe4N and B powders at 1000 °C for 1 h in nitrogen gas atmosphere. Especially, Fe-filled BN nanotubes were produced, and investigated by high-resolution electron microscopy, high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, which indicates that the [110] of Fe is parallel to the BN nanotube axis. Formation mechanism of Fe-filled BN nanotube was speculated based on these results.  相似文献
