Terahertz (THz) spectroscopic investigations of condensed‐phase biological samples are reviewed ranging from the simple crystalline forms of amino acids, carbohydrates and polypeptides to the more complex aqueous forms of small proteins, DNA and RNA. Vibrationally resolved studies of crystalline samples have revealed the exquisite sensitivity of THz modes to crystalline order, temperature, conformational form, peptide sequence and local solvate environment and have given unprecedented measures of the binding force constants and anharmonic character of the force fields, properties necessary to improve predictability but not readily obtainable using any other method. These studies have provided benchmark vibrational data on extended periodic structures for direct comparisons with classical (CHARMm) and quantum chemical (density functional theory) theories. For the larger amorphous and/or aqueous phase samples, the THz modes form a continuum‐like absorption that arises because of the full accessibility to conformational space and/or the rapid time scale for inter‐conversion in these environments. Despite severe absorption by liquid water, detailed investigations have uncovered the photo‐ and hydration‐induced conformational flexibility of proteins, the solvent shell depth of the water/biomolecule boundary layers and the solvent reorientation dynamics occurring in these interfacial layers that occur on sub‐picosecond time scales. As such, THz spectroscopy has enhanced and extended the accessibility to intermolecular forces, length‐ and timescales important in biological structure and activity.  相似文献

This study describes the application of the electrochemically generated molybdenum‐based catalyst system MoCl5? e?? Al? CH2Cl2 to ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of bicyclo[2.2.1]hept‐2‐ene (norbornene). The results are compared with those previously obtained by the WCl6? e?? Al? CH2Cl2 system. The polymer product has been characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, IR and gel‐permeation chromatography techniques. This molybdenum‐based catalyst system has led to a mainly trans stereoconfiguration (ca 60%) of the double bonds, in contrast to the polymer obtained with the tungsten‐based analogue, where the cis content is 60%. Analysis of the poly(1,3‐cyclopentylenevinylene) microstructure by 13C NMR spectroscopy revealed that the polymer having σc = 0.41 (fraction of double bonds with cis configuration) contains a slightly blocky distribution (rtrc > 1) of the double‐bond dyads (rtrc = 1.44). In addition, the influence of reaction parameters, e.g. reaction time, electrolysis time and catalyst aging time, on conversion has been analysed in detail. A simple and convenient one-pot procedure is described for the synthesis of thioethers via boron esters. This procedure involves in-situ generation of alkyl sulfates by reaction of trialkyl borates with concentrated sulfuric acid and subsequent reaction with thiols in the presence of pyridine. The reactions with boron esters of primary or secondary alcohols proceed cleanly at 100°C and afford aliphatic thioethers in reasonable yields (59–93%) within 24 h. Interestingly, the 1H NMR spectra of the products showed no sign of positional isomerisms. The method fails however with thiophenol and does not yield aromatic thioethers, due to electrophilic substitution at the phenyl ring.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel hybrid process for the treatment of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) under hot-compressed water was investigated by applying constant direct current on the reaction medium. Constant current range from 1A to 2A was applied through a cylindrical anode made of titanium to the reactor wall. Reactions were conducted using a specially designed batch reactor (450 mL) made of SUS 316 stainless steel for 30–120 min of reaction time at temperature range of 170–230 °C. As a proton donor H2SO4 was used at concentrations of 1–50 mM. Main hydrolysis products of MCC degradation in HCW were detected as glucose, fructose, levulinic acid, 5-HMF, and furfural. For the quantification of these products, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectroscopy (GC–MS) were used. A ½ fractional factorial design with 2-level of four factors; reaction time, temperature, H2SO4 concentration and applied current with 3 center points were built and responses were statistically analyzed. Response surface methodology was used for process optimization and it was found that introduction of 1A current at 200 °C to the reaction medium increased Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and cellulose conversions to 62 and 81 %, respectively. Moreover, application of current diminished the necessary reaction temperature and time to obtain high TOC and cellulose conversion values and hence decreased the energy required for cellulose hydrolysis to value added chemicals. Applied current had diverse effect on levulinic acid concentration (29.9 %) in the liquid product (230 °C, 120 min., 2 A, 50 mM H2SO4).  相似文献

Mechanochemical preparation and characterization of surface‐functionalized magnetic boron nanoparticles for biomedical applications are presented. Alloying with the stainless steel ball milling material during mechanochemical activation proved to be an alternative route to introduce magnetic properties to the nanomaterials, while functionalization with biomolecules provided biocompatible surfaces for bioconjugation.  相似文献

A new decavanadate polyoxovanadate nanocluster, [2-ampH]6[V10O28]?2H2O (1), was synthesized through reaction between ammonium vanadate and 2-aminopyridine at pH = 2. Nanocluster 1 was characterized by IR, elemental analysis, and X-ray crystallography. 1 was found to adsorb and desorb dyes and may have widespread application in wastewater treatment. The utility of 1 for adsorption of methylene blue was studied. The adsorbed dyes can be easily desorbed, and 1 has full efficiency after five cycles.  相似文献

In this work, we demonstrate an integrated sensor combining a grating-coupled plasmon resonance surface with a planar photodiode. Plasmon enhanced transmission is employed as a sensitive refractive index (RI) sensing mechanism. Enhanced transmission of light is monitored via the integrated photodiode by tuning the angle of incidence of a collimated beam near the sharp plasmon resonance condition. Slight changes of the effective refractive index (RI) shift the resonance angle, resulting in a change in the photocurrent. Owing to the planar sensing mechanism, the design permits a high areal density of sensing spots. In the design, absence of holes that facilitate resonant transmission of light, allows an easy-to-implement fabrication procedure and relative insensitivity to fabrication errors. Theoretical and experimental results agree well. An equivalent long-term RI noise of 6.3 × 10(-6) RIU/√Hz is obtained by using an 8 mW He-Ne laser, compared to a shot-noise limited theoretical sensitivity of 5.61 × 10(-9) RIU/√Hz. The device features full benefits of grating-coupled plasmon resonance, such as enhancement of sensitivity for non-zero azimuthal angle of incidence. Further sensitivity enhancement using balanced detection and optimal plasmon coupling conditions are discussed.  相似文献
