2-reducible cycles containing three consecutive edges in (2k + 1)-edge-connected graphs

LetG be ak-edge-connected graph and letf ₁,f ₀,f ₂ be consecutive edges. We call a cycleC (not necessarily simple) 2-reducible ifG – E(C) is (k – 2)-edge-connected. We here characterize the graphsG having no 2-reducible cycle containingf ₁,f ₀ andf ₂.

A unique 4-fold interpenetrated (10,3)-b copper(II) framework exhibits reversible dehydration and rehydration in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SC-SC) process, and the dehydrated material can encapsulate CH(3)OH molecules, again in a SC-SC fashion, and shows selective adsorption of H(2) and CO(2) over N(2).

Statistical inference based on aligned ranks for two-way MANOVA with interaction

Multiresponse experiments in two-way layouts with interactions, having equal number of observations per cell, are considered. Robust procedures based on aligned ranks for statistical inference of interactions, main effects and an overall mean response in the models are proposed. Large sample properties of the proposed tests, estimators and confidence regions as the cell size tends to infinity are investigated. For the univariate case, it is found that the asymptotic relative efficiencies (ARE's) of the proposed procedures relative to classical procedures agree with the ARE-results of the two-sample rank test relative to the t-test. In addition, robustness due to Huber (1981, Robust Statistics, Wiley, New York) can be drawn.     

Ionic liquid synergistic cation-exchange system for the selective extraction of lanthanum(III) using 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone and 18-crown-6.

A novel synergistic extraction system was investigated for the possible selective separation of light lanthanoids using an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, as an extraction solvent and 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone and 18-crown-6 as extractants. Trivalent lanthanum was efficiently extracted as a cationic ternary complex by the cation-exchange process, whereas europium and lutetium showed relatively low extractability without forming respective ternary complexes. This result is thought to originate in a size-fitting effect of 18-crown-6 to lanthanum and the unique nature of the ionic liquid as a chelate extraction solvent.

Single-electron-capture cross sections for 0.4–5.0 keV He+ ions incident on alkali-vapor targets

Total cross sections for single-electron capture by He⁺ ions in vapor targets of Cs, Rb, K and Na have been determined in the energy range 0.4–5.0 keV. The energy dependence of the cross-section curves is very similar for all the targets. The cross sections for all the targets are maximum at about the same energy, 1.5 keV. Comparison is made with other reported experimental and theoretical results.     

Paths and edge-connectivity in graphs

Mader proved that for every k-edge-connected graph G (k ≥ 4), there exists a path joining two given vertices such that the subgraph obtained from G by deleting the edges of the path is (k - 2)-edge-connected. A generalization of this and a sufficient condition for existance of 3, 4, or 5 terminus k edge-disjoint paths in graphs are given.
