Efficient and stereoselective synthesis of the disaccharide fragment of incednine

Efficient and stereoselective synthesis of a disaccharide fragment, 2-deoxy-4-O-(N'-monodemethyl-D-forosaminyl)-2-methylamino-β-D-xylopyranoside, of a novel antibiotic, incednine (1), is described. The key β-stereoselective formation of a 2,3,4,6-tetradeoxy-4-methylamino glycoside bond was achieved by remote participation-assisted glycosylation.     

Convergent synthesis of the HIJKLM ring system of ciguatoxin CTX3C

The HIJKLM ring system of ciguatoxin CTX3C was synthesized in a convergent manner. The key steps were a conjugate addition/alkylation sequence, spiroacetalization, intramolecular allylation, ring-closing metathesis, and hydrogenation to form the 36-α-methyl substituent.     

Applications of hybrid universality to multivariable zeta-functions

In the present paper, we obtain new results on universality as applications of hybrid universality and almost-periodicity in its half-plane of absolute convergence. By using these, we show the universality for Euler products of Igusa type, Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-functions and Tornheim-Hurwitz type of double zeta-functions.     

The universality for linear combinations of Lerch zeta functions and the Tornheim�CHurwitz type of double zeta functions

In this paper, we consider the universality for linear combinations of Lerch zeta functions. J. Kaczorowski, A. Laurin?ikas and J. Steuding treated universal Dirichlet series with the case that the compact sets ${\mathcal{K}_l}$ are disjoint. But we consider the both cases that the compact subset ${\mathcal{K}_l}$ is disjoint and not disjoint. Next, we will show the non-trivial zeros of the Tornheim?CHurwitz type of double zeta functions in the region of absolute convergence. Moreover we show the universality for the Tornheim?CHurwitz type of double zeta function.     

Application of Mitsunobu reagents to redox isomerization of CF3-containing propargylic alcohols to (E)-α,β-enones

Isomerization of CF(3)-containing secondary propargylic alcohols proceeds with excellent E selectivity by treatment with Mitsunobu reagents, tris(p-methoxyphenyl)phosphine (TMPP), and 1,1'-(azodicarbonyl)dipiperidine (ADDP) in the presence of phenol.     

A hydrogenase model system based on the sequence of cytochrome c: photochemical hydrogen evolution in aqueous media

The diiron carbonyl cluster is held by a native CXXC motif, which includes Cys14 and Cys17, in the cytochrome c sequence. It is found that the diiron carbonyl complex works well as a catalyst for H(2) evolution. It has a TON of ～80 over 2 h at pH 4.7 in the presence of a Ru-photosensitizer and ascorbate as a sacrificial reagent in aqueous media.     

Octaalkyl tetracene-1,2,3,4,7,8,9,10-octacarboxylates: synthesis by twofold [2+2+2] cocyclization and crystallochromy

Tetracene octaesters, which were prepared by twofold [2+2+2] cocyclization, were isolated as red, orange, and orange-yellow solids for the methyl, ethyl, and propyl ester derivatives, respectively. X-Ray crystallographic analysis reveals that the difference in solid-state color arises owing to differences in molecular packing.     

Robust numerical analysis of the dynamic bubble formation process in a viscous liquid

The dynamics of bubble formation from a submerged nozzle in a highly viscous liquid with relatively fast inflow gas velocity is studied numerically. The numerical simulations are carried out using a sharp interface coupled level set/volume-of-fluid (CLSVOF) method and the governing equations are solved through a hydrodynamic scheme with formal second-order accuracy. Numerical results agree well with experimental results and it is shown that the sharp interface CLSVOF method enables one to reproduce the bubble formation process for a wide range of inflow gas velocities. From numerical results, one can improve their understanding of the mechanisms regarding the dynamics of bubble formation. For example, it is found that for some sets of parameters that the bubble formation process reaches steady state after several bubbles are released from the nozzle. At steady state, bubbles uniformly rise freely in the viscous liquid. It is observed that the fluid flow around a formed bubble has a significant role in determining the overall dynamic process of bubble formation; e.g. the effect of the fluid flow from the preceding bubble can be seen on newly formed bubbles.

Experimental demonstration and stochastic modeling of autonomous formation of nanophotonic droplets

We have previously demonstrated a novel technique for autonomously forming a nanophotonic droplet, which is micro-scale spherical polymer structure that contains paired heterogeneous nanometric components. The sort-selectivity and alignment accuracy of the nanometric components in each nanophotonic droplet, and the related homogeneity of the optical function, are due to a characteristic pairing process based on a phonon-assisted photo-curing method. The proposed method requires irradiating a mixture of components with light to induce optical near-field interactions between each component, and subsequent processes based on these interactions. The pairing yield of components via the interactions is considered to mainly depend on the frequency of their encounters and the size-resonance effect between encountered components. In this paper, we model these two factors by individual stochastic procedures and construct a numerical model to describe the pairing process. Agreement between the results of numerical and experimental demonstrations shows the validity of our stochastic modeling.
