Dunham energy parameters of isotopic carbon monoxide,hydrogen halide,and hydroxyl radical molecules

Dunham potential energy coefficients a₁-a₆ for ¹²C¹⁶O, ¹³C¹⁶O, ¹²C¹⁸O, H⁸¹Br, HI, and OH have been calculated, including error limits, from published experimental spectroscopic data. There is no indication of deviation from Born-Oppenheimer behavior for a₁-a₆ of the carbon monoxide molecules, and the mass-independent internuclear separation R_e and force constants k_e and a₀ have also been calculated.     

Radial Functions of AIH X 1∑+ from Vibration-Rotational Spectra ana Spectral Properties of the Group 13 Hydrides

The coefficients C_j , j ≤ 9, defining the potential-energy V(z) and coefficients of two other radial functions related to adiabatic and nonadiabatic effects have been determined for AlH in the electronic ground state X ¹∑⁺ by a direct fit to the published frequencies and wavenumbers of vibration-rotational transitions of ²⁷Al¹H and ²⁷Al²H. The functions are valid in the range of internuclear distance/10^?10 m [1.24, 2.60]. Some trends in the spectral properties of the group 13 hydrides AlH, GaH, InH and TlH are discussed. The possibility of determining the rotational magnetogyric factor g_j from the available data of only wavenumbers of vibration-rotational transitions is considered; an approximate value g_j ～ ?2.25 is deduced for ²⁷Al¹H.     

Magnetorotational-type instability in Couette-Taylor flow of a viscoelastic polymer liquid

We describe an instability of viscoelastic Couette-Taylor flow that is directly analogous to the magnetorotational instability (MRI) in astrophysical magnetohydrodynamics, with polymer molecules playing the role of magnetic field lines. By determining the conditions required for the onset of instability and the properties of the preferred modes, we distinguish it from the centrifugal and elastic instabilities studied previously. Experimental demonstration and investigation should be much easier for the viscoelastic instability than for the MRI in a liquid metal. The analogy holds with the case of a predominantly toroidal magnetic field such as is expected in an accretion disk, and it may be possible to access a turbulent regime in which many modes are unstable.     

Genetic, genomic and physiological state studies on single-needle bio-electrosprayed human cells

Bio-electrospraying, a non-contact jet-based direct cell engineering approach, was recently pioneered and demonstrated for handling a wide range of primary living cells. In those studies, post-treated cells were biologically assessed in comparison to several controls by way of flow cytometry. Although flow cytometry accurately assesses those viable populations of cells, subtle effects at a sub-cellular level could have been missed. Therefore, in the present study we demonstrate metaphase chromosome breakage studies carried out on single-needle bio-electrosprayed human T-lymphocytes, which are compared with several controls. The results indicate that post-treated T-lymphocytes do not demonstrate any increase in chromosome damage in comparison to control cells. These studies further validate bio-electrospraying as a technique with potential for clinical utility.     

Exotic phases of finite temperature gauge theories

We calculate the phase diagrams at high temperature of SU(N) gauge theories with massive fermions by minimizing the one-loop effective potential. Considering fermions in the adjoint (Adj) representation at various N we observe a variety of phases when N_f2 Majorana flavours and periodic boundary conditions are applied to fermions. Also the confined phase is perturbatively accessible. For N=3, we add Fundamental (F) representation fermions with antiperiodic boundary conditions to adjoint QCD to show how the Z(3)-symmetry breaks in the confined phase.     

Single-isomer tetrasubstituted olefins from regioselective and stereospecific palladium-catalyzed coupling of beta-chloro-alpha-iodo-alpha,beta-unsaturated esters

The efficient regioselective and stereospecific synthesis of tetrasubstituted olefins using a mild and convenient method is disclosed. 2-Alkynyl esters are selectively converted to E-beta-chloro-alpha-iodo-alpha,beta-unsaturated esters by exposure to Bu4NI in refluxing dichloroethane. These products are produced cleanly, regio- and stereoselectively, and in high yields. Single-isomer tetrasubstituted olefins bearing four different carbon substituents are then synthesized by sequential palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions. Selectivity results from reactivity differences in the intermediate substrates.
