We identify periodic solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media: multi-hump soliton solutions propagating in a fully periodic fashion. We also demonstrate recurrences and breathers whose evolution is statistically periodic and discuss why some systems support periodic solitons while others do not.  相似文献

We consider Hölder smoothness classes of surfaces for which we construct piecewise polynomial approximation networks, which are graphs with polynomial pieces as nodes and edges between polynomial pieces that are in ‘good continuation’ of each other. Little known to the community, a similar construction was used by Kolmogorov and Tikhomirov in their proof of their celebrated entropy results for Hölder classes.We show how to use such networks in the context of detecting geometric objects buried in noise to approximate the scan statistic, yielding an optimization problem akin to the Traveling Salesman. In the same context, we describe an alternative approach based on computing the longest path in the network after appropriate thresholding.For the special case of curves, we also formalize the notion of ‘good continuation’ between beamlets in any dimension, obtaining more economical piecewise linear approximation networks for curves.We include some numerical experiments illustrating the use of the beamlet network in characterizing the filamentarity content of 3D data sets, and show that even a rudimentary notion of good continuity may bring substantial improvement.  相似文献

A quenched central limit theorem is derived for the super-Brownian motion with super-Brownian immigration, in dimension d≥4. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of (110)YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta)/Au bilayers reveal a proximity effect markedly different from the conventional one. While proximity-induced mini-gaps rarely appear in the Au layer, the Andreev bound states clearly penetrate into the metal. Zero bias conductance peaks are measured on Au layers thinner than 7 nm with a magnitude similar to those detected on the bare superconductor films. The peaks then decay abruptly with Au thickness and disappear above 10 nm. This length is shorter than the normal coherence length and corresponds to the (ballistic) mean free path.  相似文献

We analyze the finite temperature behavior of the Sakai-Sugimoto model, which is a holographic dual of a theory which spontaneously breaks a U(Nf)L × U(Nf)R chiral flavor symmetry at zero temperature. The theory involved is a 4 + 1 dimensional supersymmetric SU(Nc) gauge theory compactified on a circle of radius R with anti-periodic boundary conditions for fermions, coupled to Nf left-handed quarks and Nf right-handed quarks which are localized at different points on the compact circle (separated by a distance L). In the supergravity limit which we analyze (corresponding in particular to the large Nc limit of the gauge theory), the theory undergoes a deconfinement phase transition at a temperature Td = 1/2πR. For quark separations obeying L > Lc ? 0.97 ∗ R the chiral symmetry is restored at this temperature, but for L < Lc ? 0.97 ∗ R there is an intermediate phase which is deconfined with broken chiral symmetry, and the chiral symmetry is restored at TχSB ? 0.154/L. All of these phase transitions are of first order.  相似文献

A bubble attached to the end of an atomic force microscope cantilever and driven toward or away from a flat mica surface across an aqueous film is used to characterize the dynamic force that arises from hydrodynamic drainage and electrical double layer interactions across the nanometer thick intervening aqueous film. The hydrodynamic response of the air/water interface can range from a classical fully immobile, no-slip surface in the presence of added surfactants to a partially mobile interface in an electrolyte solution without added surfactants. A model that includes the convection and diffusion of trace surface contaminants can account for the observed behavior presented. This model predicts quantitatively different interfacial dynamics to the Navier slip model that can also be used to fit dynamic force data with a post hoc choice of a slip length.  相似文献
