Synthesis and properties of (4-hydroxy-5-methoxycarbonylthieno)-tetrathiafulvalenes

6-Hydroxy-5-methoxycarbonylthieno[2,3-d]-1,3-dithiol-2-thione, -2-one, and 2-selenone were prepared by intramolecular cyclocondensation of 4-methoxycarbonylmethylthio-1,3-dithiol-2-thione-, 2-one-, and 2-selenone-5-carboxylic acid methyl ester. 2,6(7)-Di(methoxycarbonylmethylthio)-3,7(6)-di(methoxycarbonyl)tetra-thiafulvalene, 2-methoxycarbonylmethylthio-3-methoxycarbonyl-6,7-ethylenedithiotetrathiafulvalene, and the corresponding thieno-condensed tetrafulvalene derivatives were synthesized from them. Hetero analogs of alloxazines. 2. Structure and tautomerism of 6,8-dimethyl-7,9-dioxo-5h-6,7,8,9-tetrahydropyrimido[4,5-b][4′,5′-e][1,4]thiazines

It is demonstrated by ¹³C NMR spectroscopy that the dipyrimidothiazines that are formed in the reaction of 1,3-dimethyl-5-nitro-6-chlorouracil with 4-R-5-amino-6-mercaptopyrimidines are dipyrimido[4,5-b][4,5-e] [1,4]thiazines. Synthesis of 5,12-diazadibenz[a,h]anthracene

5, 12-Diazadibenz[a,h]anthracene ( 20 ) was synthesized in 21% overall yield for seven steps. Salient features of the synthesis include the initial, one-step conversion of trans, trans-1,4-bis-(β-nitrovinyl)benzene into 2,2″-dinitro-p-terphenyl by Diels-Alder condensation plus elimination, monocyclization of the derived 2,2″-diformylamino-p-terphenyl to give 8-(2-amino-1-phenyl)-phenanthridine ( 10 ) in the presence of fortified polyphosphoric acid, and accomplishment of a second cyclization step only after reduction of the heteroring in 10 (by means of diisobutyl-aluminum hydride) plus formylation. The 6-methyl and 6,13-dimethyl derivatives of 20 were prepared similarly.     

4-Hydroxy-2-quinolones 131. Bromination of 3-allyl-4-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoline

The bromination of 3-allyl-4-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoline by molecular bromine is accompanied by the closure of a five membered furan ring and gives the corresponding 2-bromomethyl-3,9-dihydro-2H-furo[2,3-b]quinolin-4-one. __________ Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 11, pp. 1677–1686, November, 2007.     

Synthesis and Structure of Tri-p-tolylantimony Ditosylate

Tri-p-tolylantimony reacts with p-toluenesulfonic acid in the presence of benzoyl peroxide (1 : 2 : 1 molar ratio) in ether to give tri-p-tolylantimony ditosylate in 91% yield. According to X-ray diffraction data, the central antimony atom has the trigonal bipyramidal coordination with the axial location of the tosyl groups. The Sb-O bond lengths are 2.07(2) and 2.17(2) Å; Sb-C bond lengths, 2.08(3), 2.13(3), and 2.13(3) Å; and OSbO bond angle, 175.6(7)°.

QUANTUM YIELD OF PHOTOHYDRATION FOR DIMETHYLURACIL. CONCENTRATION AND WAVELENGTH DEPENDENCE*

Abstract— The quantum yields for the photohydration of dimethyluracil were determined for concentrations in the range 5 × 10^--¹-^-1 × 10^--³M by use of 240–280 nm irradiation. The average quantum yield (0.0139 f 0.0005) was independent of both concentration and irradiation wavelength.
