Reduction of Alkyl-2-amino-5,6-dialkyl-3-cyanopyridine-4-carboxylates

Amino acid end-group in commercial heparin. III. Determination of the number of amino groups of amino acid and hexosamine residues per heparin molecule

The reactions of heparin with 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) were studied spectrometrically. Seven different commercial heparins were used in this study. The amino groups react with TNBS to form equimolar amounts of trinitrophenylated (TNP) amino groups and bisulfite ions. The TNP-amino groups further react with bisulfite ions to form the monosubstituted anionic sigma complex. The absorption spectrum with two maxima at approximately 350 nm and approximately 420 nm, characteristic of either the TNP-amino groups or the complex, was analyzed for the reaction of TNBS with heparin. It was shown that the reactivities of TNBS with amino groups from α-amino acid and hexosamine residues are greatly different. By combining the results of the reaction kinetics and the reaction of heparin with Sanger's reagent, the number of the α-amino groups and the free amino groups in hexosamine residues were determined. These data have been performed with a range of heparins from different commercial sources, of different activities and physical characteristics. No correlation was found between the free amino contents of these heparins and biological potency. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Ferromagnetism of Two-Bridge Clusters

A generalized model of angular overlapping was used to analyze the magnetic properties of polynuclear complexes. The structural elements of these complexes contain planar binuclear fragments of the M(LR)₂M type. The maximum ferromagnetism for the monoatomic bridges corresponds to = MLM, which is about 100°. Weak planar interactions between L and R displace the ferromagnetism maximum towards lower , while interactions shift it towards higher . In almost all cases, strong planar interactions (LLR 180°) are responsible for strong antiferromagnetism.     

Spectrophotometric determination of samarium(III) with chrome azurol S in the presence of cetylpyridinium chloride

A sensitive, simple method for the determination of trace amounts of samarium by spectrophotometry is described based on the formation of the samarium-chrome azurol S (CAS) complex in micellar medium. The molar absorptivities of the complexes at pH 7.5 at 505 nm were 3.6x10(4) and 1.4x10(5) l mol(-1) cm(-1) for water media and cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), respectively. Beer's law is obeyed from 0.05-2 mg l(-1) of samarium at 505 nm as Sm-CAS-CPC complex. Optimal conditions such as reagent amounts, and pH for the samarium determination were reported. The effects of foreign ions were also investigated. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of samarium contents in synthetic samples.     

Addition of diazocyclopropane generatedin situ to vinyl bromide and chemical transformations of the resulting 5-bromospiro(1-pyrazoline-3,1′-cyclopropane)

The reaction of diazocyclopropane generatedin situ with vinyl bromide occurs as regioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition to give 5-bromospiro(1-pyrazoline-3,1′-cyclopropane) in ∼60% yield. Reactions of the latter with nucleophilic reagents, which can occur both with retention and opening of the cyclopropane ring, were studied. Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Analytical Potentials and Features of Atomic Emission Analysis Using Electron-Impact Excitation of Atoms in Helium under Atmospheric Pressure

A device is described for the atomic emission analysis of vaporous samples using electron-impact excitation in helium under atmospheric pressure. The device consists of a cathode atomizer with a test sample applied onto it and the anode located at 1–3 mm from the cathode. The electrons emitted by the cathode upon heating are accelerated by applying a constant voltage to the electrodes. The mechanism for the formation of a non-self-sustained gas discharge between the cathode and anode is considered and the properties of the discharge are compared to those of the known discharges used in atomic emission spectrometry. The influence of atomization temperature and helium pressure on the analytical and background signals was studied. It is shown that, under certain conditions, the analytical signal increases with helium pressure. The relative detection limits attained for a number of elements are from tenths to dozens of nanogram per liter; this is two or three orders of magnitude lower than those in inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry and of the same order of magnitude as detection limits in inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.     

Interaction of Nonaromatic Amino Acids with Cyclodextrins in Aqueous Solution

Weak interactions of nonaromatic amino acids with - and -cyclodextrins in aqueous solutions at 298.15 K were studied calorimetrically. The structure and solvation of these compounds noticeably affect the thermodynamic characteristics of interparticle interactions.     

Structural investigations in the series of spiro(thia)chromans

A comparative assessment was made of the reactivity of carbonyl-containing spirohydrochromans in their reaction with hydrogen sulfide under the conditions of acid catalysis. The special features of the structure of one of the obtained condensed spiro(thia)chromans are examined on the basis of the results from x-ray crystallographic analysis, the¹³C NMR spectra, and quantum-chemical calculations. Computer modelling of the conformational equilibrium of 2-and 2,5,5-substituted 1,3,2-dioxaborinanes

Empirical, semiempirical, and nonempirical quantum-chemical methods were used to study the conformational equilibrium of 2,5,5-substituted 1,3,2-dioxaborinanes. The sofa invertomers were found to correspond to the local and global minima on the potential energy surface.
