Study of pairing deformations by means of two-particle transfer reactions

The macroscopic approach for two-particle transfer reactions is applied in normal spherical nuclei and pairing deformation parameters β_p are estimated. For Ni isotopes the macroscopic approach works reasonably well while for the lead region strong energy dependence of theβ _p values has been observed. It is shown that alpha-transfer reactions can also be treated within this formalism as couplings of the two-neutron and two-proton channels.     

On interrelation between the internal pressure and the cohesion energy density

The question about the definition of the “internal pressure” concept is being discussed. It is shown that the previously found differential relation between the cohesion energy density and the internal pressure is one of the examples of an absolutely general interrelation between definitely connected differential functions. It is ascertained that the ratio (the internal pressure divided by the cohesion energy density) is a structuresensitive parameter inherent to the calorific (thermal) equation of a liquid state.     

The mechanism of selective NOx reduction by hydrocarbons in excess oxygen on oxide catalysts: V. Adsorption properties of a commercial Ni-Cr oxide catalyst

According to X-ray diffraction analysis data, the test catalyst was a Ni-Cr spinel with an impurity of NiO. With the use of in situ IR spectroscopy, it was found that nitrite, nitrate, and acetate surface complexes occurred under the reaction conditions of the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides by propane in the presence of oxygen on the nickel-chromium catalyst. As the temperature was increased, the nitrite complexes were converted into nitrate species. The molar absorption coefficient of surface nitrate complexes was determined. According to IR-spectroscopic and TPD data, the nitrate complexes were bound relatively weakly to the surface. The temperature region of their existence was 50–200°C. The temperature region of existence of the surface acetate complexes was 200–400°C. The individual adsorption of oxygen was not observed; however, oxygen-containing surface sites (Cr⁵⁺=O) participated in the formation of the surface complexes of reactants.     

Equation of convective diffusion of a multicomponent mixture in a capillary for an arbitrary velocity field

It is shown that the convective transport in a binary mixture in the presence of vortex convection can be described in terms of Fick’s law with an effective diffusion coefficient independent of the concentration. The form of the effective diffusion coefficient is found for arbitrary convection in the mixture. A generalization of the Stefan-Maxwell diffusion equation is proposed to include an arbitrary rotational mixture velocity field. The characteristics of convective transport are considered with reference to a three-component mixture. A solution of the equation of three-component mixture transport through a long capillary in the presence of convection homogeneous along the capillary axis is presented. It is established that for sharply different component diffusion coefficients a mixture density extremum may appear inside the capillary and then change or disappear depending on the convective flow intensity.     

Interactions of the mitochondrial membrane rat liver D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase with glass beads during adsorption chromatography. Relationships with the activation of the enzyme by phospholipids

D-3-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) is an NAD(+)-dependent dehydrogenase of the mitochondrial inner membrane involved in the energetic balance between the liver and peripheral organs in mammals. It allows the conversion of ketone bodies (acetoacetate and D-3-hydroxybutyrate) and it is one of the best documented lipid-requiring enzymes with a dependence on lecithins. After release of proteins from the membrane by phospholipase A2 treatment of salt-treated mitochondria, the rat liver enzyme is absorbed on controlled-pore glass beads. After batch washing, the enzyme, devoid of lipids (apoBDH), is specifically eluted at pH 8.05-8.15 with a 0.1 M Tris-1 M LiBr buffer under reducing conditions (5 mM dithiothreitol). It appears that during BDH absorption, the glass beads mimic the phospholipid surface of biomembranes.     

Photolysis of 2-dialkylamino-3-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinones

The photolysis of 2-dialkylamino-1,4-naphthoquinones is significantly more efficient when a methyl group is at C³. The quantum yields are 2–6 times greater than for 2-dialkylaminonaphthoquinones lacking a methyl group. 2-Monoalkyl-amino-1,4-naphthoquinones also undergo photochemical dealkylation.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 10, pp. 2387–2392, October, 1991.     

Band structures in73Se

Excited states of⁷³Se have been investigated up to spin, 21/2 using techniques of in-beamγ-ray spectroscopy in connection with the⁷⁰Ge(α, n) reaction. Mean lifetimes of 12 levels have been determined applying Doppler-shift andγ-RF-methods. Five different bands have been identified that reflect a variety of different excitation modes. The decoupled 9/2⁺ band is likely to correspond to an oblate deformation while the 5/2⁺ band is interpreted as a strongly coupled prolate band built on the Nilsson configuration [422] 5/2⁺. The 3/2^? band is a strongly coupled band built on the [301] 3/2^} configuration.Nuclear reactions:⁷⁰Ge(α,n),E=14, 16, 18, 19, 20MeV; measuredE _γ,I _γ,σ(E _γ,θ),γγ-coin, linear polarization, DSA,γ(t).⁷⁵Se deduced levels,I, π, τ, δ(E2/M1), B(σλ).
