Low-frequency internal friction in complex composite strands

Conclusion A method was proposed which makes it possible to study the low-frequency internal friction of complex fibers. This method was used to study the internal friction of complex composite fibers based on PCA and PE. The effect of oxygen ordering through controlled exposure to oxygen on the superconductive properties of LaBa2Cu3Oy

In an effort to clarify the role of controlled oxygen exposure in the synthesis of LaBa₂Cu₃O_y samples which achieve zero resistivity above 90 K, we have prepared samples of La(_1+x)Ba(_2–x)Cu₃O_y with x approximately equal to 0 and with y varying between 6.22 and 7.00. Resolution of Some Open Problems Concerning Multiple Zeta Evaluations of Arbitrary Depth

We prove some new evaluations for multiple polylogarithms of arbitrary depth. The simplest of our results is a multiple zeta evaluation one order of complexity beyond the well-known Broadhurst–Zagier formula. Other results we provide settle three of the remaining outstanding conjectures of Borwein, Bradley, and Broadhurst. A complete treatment of a certain arbitrary depth class of periodic alternating unit Euler sums is also given.     

Loading aircraft for military operations

In this paper, we describe an aircraft loading problem submitted by the French military agency (DGA) as part of a more general military airlift planning problem. It can be viewed as a kind of bi-dimensional bin-packing problem, with heterogeneous bins and several additional constraints. We introduce two-phase methods for solving this NP-hard problem. The first phase consists in building good initial solutions, thanks to two fast algorithms: a list-based heuristic and a loading pattern generation method. Both algorithms call a constraint-based subroutine, able to determine quickly if the items already loaded can be reshuffled to accommodate a new object. The second phase improves these preliminary solutions using local search techniques. Results obtained on real data sets are presented.

Chemisorption at interfaces between organic semiconductors and metals: role of the electron affinity

It is shown that many published data indicate that the occurrence of chemisorption can be rationalized upon the consideration of the metal work function versus the electron affinity of the organic semiconductor.
