Coprecipitation of Naphthol Azosulfonates with Organic Coprecipitants and Its Use in Flow-Injection Analysis

The coprecipitation of azo compounds based on 4-nitrophenyl- and 4-sulfophenyldiazonium naphthol sulfonates as their diphenylguanidinium ion-pair complexes with analogous compounds of naphthalene-2-sulfonic acid and 4-phenylsulfodiazonium is investigated. The optimization of the coprecipitation is considered based on the notions of the driving force of the cocrystallization of impurities. The optical characteristics of colored ion-pair complexes are measured. It is found that the water solubility is decreased most substantially for azosulfonates with hydrophobic nitro groups and with no more than two sulfo groups in different aromatic nuclei, which can lead to a decrease in the detection limit due to preconcentration by coprecipitation, which stimulates the thermodynamic flux of concentrate elution. Coprecipitation is combined with flow-injection analysis in the on-line mode, and new procedures are developed for determining naphthol sulfonates and related azo compounds with the detection limit equal to 0.003–0.006 mg/50 mL.     

Influence of Pretreatment of Expanded Graphite on Its Sorption Properties with Respect to Petroleum

Petroleum sorption on expanded graphite prepared from residual graphite hydrosulfate at 300-900°C was studied as influenced by pretreatment of the sorbent with water.     

Ionization of two-electron atom in ultrashort laser pulse

The method of numerical integration of the classical equations of motion was used to study interaction of a model two-electron atom with ultrashort laser pulses. Mechanisms and specific features of the ionization process were analyzed in a broad range of laser-field parameters.     

Numerical simulation of achromatic deflecting systems

A deflecting system formed by two parallel-plate capacitors on opposite sides of an optoelectronic element that alters the energy of a beam of charged particles, is calculated numerically. The conditions for correcting the chromatic beam spreading in the plane of the target are found. Good agreement with the results of an approximate analytical calculation is demonstrated. Zh. Tekh. Factorization of univalent analytic functions on compact Riemann surfaces with boundary

The paper is devoted to the theory of factorization of univalent analytic functions on a compact Riemann surface with boundary. Noncommutative four-dimensional subalgebras of conformal algebra integrable in the space R1,3

D'alambert's equation is used as an example to study the possibilities of a new method of exactly integrating systems of linear differential equations — the method of noncommutative integration (NI). The results confirm that use of the NI is equivalent to complete separation of the variables in the case of four-dimensional subalgebras of conformal algebra. However, the method does simplify determination of the exact solution in this instance.Tomsk University. A graph with n vertices that contains no triangle and no 5-cycle and minimum degree exceeding n/4 contains an independent set with at least (3n)/7 vertices. This is best possible. The proof proceeds by producing a homomorphism to the 7-cycle and invoking the No Homomorphism Lemma. For k ≥ 4, a graph with n vertices, odd girth 2k+1, and minimum degree exceeding n/(k+1) contains an independent set with at least kn/(2k+1) vertices; however, we suspect this is not best possible. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

On Improvements to the Analytic Center Cutting Plane Method

In this paper, we explore a weakness of a specific implementation of the analytic center cutting plane method applied to convex optimization problems, which may lead to weaker results than Kelley's cutting plane method. Improvements to the analytic center cutting plane method are suggested, and tested on some example problems.     

Synthesis of 4H-pyrans by O-cyclization of 1,5-diketones

Substituted 4H-pyrans were obtained in high preparative yields by the reaction of 1,5-diketones with acetic anhydride and boron trifluoride etherate in diethyl ether.
