Improved method for titrimetric determination of sulphide by the iodine-azide reaction

A sensitive procedure for the determination of sulphide is described. The method depends on the extent to which the iodine-azide reaction has been catalysed by sulphide, and this is measured by titration of the amount of iodine consumed in a fixed time period.     

A promising polymer material for repairing body parts of machines

The results of experimental studies of the developed polymer material based on AN-110 acrylic adhesive and F-40 elastomer are given. A calibration technique for polymer-coated holes is described. A repair technique for body parts of motor tractor vehicles using the developed polymer material is presented.

Principal component analysis for surface reflection components and structure in facial images and synthesis of facial images for various ages

In this paper, principal component analysis is applied to the distribution of pigmentation, surface reflectance, and landmarks in whole facial images to obtain feature values. The relationship between the obtained feature vectors and the age of the face is then estimated by multiple regression analysis so that facial images can be modulated for woman aged 10–70. In a previous study, we analyzed only the distribution of pigmentation, and the reproduced images appeared to be younger than the apparent age of the initial images. We believe that this happened because we did not modulate the facial structures and detailed surfaces, such as wrinkles. By considering landmarks and surface reflectance over the entire face, we were able to analyze the variation in the distributions of facial structures and fine asperity, and pigmentation. As a result, our method is able to appropriately modulate the appearance of a face so that it appears to be the correct age.     

Hydroxylation of phenolic compounds under the condition of ultrasound in aqueous solution

Ultrasound (200 kHz)-assisted hydroxylation of phenolic compounds, such as phenol, 4-methyl phenol, 4-hydroxyanisol, 2-naphthol, catechol, resorcinol, 3-t-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole, 3-methyl-4-hydroxyanisole, in aqueous solution was successfully carried out in 12–18 h to give the hydroxylated products which were identified as their respective acetates.     

Flow enthalpimetric determination of glucose, based on oxidation by 1,4-benzoquinone and use of an immobilized glucose oxidase column

A flow enthalpimetric method for the determination of glucose is presented. The method is based on the reaction of glucose with 1,4-benzoquinone in the presence of immobilized glucose oxidase. d-Glucose concentrations ranging from 0.02 to 75mM can be determined. The method is applicable to the determination of glucose in soft drinks, wines, beers, jams and serum.     

Determination of l-phenylalanine in serum by flow-injection analysis using immobilized phenylalanine dehydrogenase and fluorimetric detection

A flow-injection system with an immobilized enzyme reactor is proposed for the determination of l-phenylalanine. Phenylalanine dehydrogenase from Rhodoccus sp. M4 was immobilized on tresylated poly (vinyl alcohol) beads (13 mum) and packed into a stainless-steel column (5 cm x 4 mm i.d.). Serum sample was deproteinized with tungstic acid and filtered through an ultrafiltration membrane. The sample solution (30 mul) was injected into the carrier stream (water). The NADH formed was detected at 465 nm (excitation at 340 nm). The calibration graph was linear for 0.9-600 mum l-phenylalanine; the detection limit was 0.3 mum. The sample throughout was 25 h(-1) without carryover. The half-life period of the immobilized enzyme was 23 days.
