Semilinear hyperbolic systems violating the null condition

We consider systems of semilinear wave equations in three space dimensions with quadratic nonlinear terms not satisfying the null condition. We prove small data global existence of the classical solution under a new structural condition related to the weak null condition. For two-component systems satisfying this condition, we also observe a new kind of asymptotic behavior: Only one component is dissipated and the other one behaves like a non-trivial free solution in the large time.     

Pursuit of reinitiation efficiency of resonance‐stabilized monomeric allyl radical generated via “degradative monomer chain transfer” in allyl polymerization

For a deeper understanding of allyl polymerization mechanism, the reinitiation efficiency of resonance‐stabilized monomeric allyl radical was pursued because in allyl polymerization it is commonly conceived that the monomeric allyl radical generated via the allylic hydrogen abstraction of growing polymer radical from monomer, i.e., “degradative monomer chain transfer,” has much less tendency to initiate a new polymer chain and, therefore, this monomer chain transfer is essentially a termination reaction. Based on the renewed allyl polymerization mechanism in our preceding article, the monomer chain transfer constant in the polymerization of allyl benzoate was estimated to be 2.7 × 10^?2 at 80 °C under the polymerization condition, where the coupling termination reaction of growing polymer radical with allyl radical was negligible and, concurrently, the reinitiation reaction of allyl radical was enhanced significantly. The reinitiation efficiencies of monomeric allyl radical were pursued by the dead‐end polymerizations of allyl benzoate at 80, 105, and 130 °C using a small amount of initiators; they increased remarkably with raised temperature. Thus, the enhanced reinitiation reactivity of allyl radical at an elevated temperature could bias the well‐known degradative monomer chain transfer characteristic of allyl polymerization toward the chain transfer in common vinyl polymerization. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Quadrupole moments of medium-weight and heavy hypernuclei with the NΛ configurations (N = p and n)

Using the shell model wave functions, we have studied quadrupole moments of medium-weight and heavy hypernuclei, and obtained the shell model values of quadrupole moments of NΛ systems ( N = p and n). With the use of the first-order perturbation theory, we have also estimated the configuration mixing effects on quadrupole moments of these NΛ hypernuclei. We show that the hyperon-induced configuration mixing effects are small and the nucleon-induced configuration mixing effects are large in many cases. Synthesis in the diazasteroid group VIII. Synthetic studies of the 14,17-diazasteroid system

Two synthetic routes leading to the 14,17-diazasteroid system have been developed. One of these gives 14,17-diazagona-1,3,5(10),6,8,9,11,13(17)heptaene (V), prepared from benzo[f]quinolin-3(4H)one (I) and ethanolamine. The other route gives 14,17-diazagona-1,3,5(10),8,12-heptaen-11-one (XVIa) via the reaction of 2-tetralone with ethyl 2-imidazolidinylidenacetate (IXa).     

Synthesis in the diazasteroid group. III . Syntheses of the 8,16- and 8,17-diazasteroid systems

By using 3-pyrrolidone derivatives as a source of the D ring, the following five diazasteroids were synthesized: 8,16-diaza-2,3-dimethoxy-15,15,16-trimethylgona-1,3,5(10),13-tetraen-12-one (VII), 8,16-diaza-2,3-dimethoxy-16-acetylgona-1,3,5(10),13-tetraen-12-one (X), 8,17-diaza-2,3-dimethoxy-17-acetylgona-1,3,5(10),13-tetracn-12-one (XI), 8,16-diaza-16-acetylgona-1,3,5(10), 13-tetraen-12-one (XII), and 8,17-diaza-17-acetylgona-1,3,5(10),13-tetraen-12-one (XIII).     

Evaluation of the self-absorption of 14C beta-rays in gel-suspension samples by Monte Carlo simulation

In order to investigate the self-absorption of the -rays from ¹⁴C in a gel-suspension sample, the Monte Carlo code, simulating the sequence of stages occurring in the sample, has been developed. The trajectory of the electron was calculated by the continuous slowing down approximation and the multiple Coulomb scattering theory. The effects of the self-absorption, strong quenching and particle size distribution of calcium carbonate on the output counting efficiency and the shape of the energy spectrum were evaluated.
