The charged particle multiplicity distributions for two-jet events ine + e ? annihilation at 29 GeV have been measured using the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP. A Poisson distribution describes the data for both the complete event and for the single jets. In addition, no correlation is observed between the multiplicities in the two jets of an event. For fixed values of the prong number of the complete event, the multiplicity sharing between the two jets is in good agreement with a binomial distribution. The rapidity gap distribution is exponential with a slope equal to the mean rapidity density. These observations, which are consistent with a picture of independent emission of single particles, are contrasted to the results from soft hadronic collisions and conclusions are drawn about the nature of clusters.  相似文献

Using a triple plasma device, strong double layers (Δ 20 Te/e) have been produced in an axial magnetic field of 50 G. Numerical results indicate that suppression of plasma generation in the region of a double layer is necessary for its existence.  相似文献

We report the measurement of the differential cross section of the reaction γ +p→π0 +p at a photon energy of 1.4 GeV and pion c.m. angles between 60 and 175 degrees. Pronounced polarization effects have been observed in inelastic collisions of laser state-prepared Na*(3p,M L) with Na+ leading to Na*(3d) for the energy rangeE CM=20–45 eV. Using linearly polarized light the dependence of the inelastic process on the alignment of the electronic charge cloud of the Na*(3p) prior to the collision has been measured. In studies with left and right hand circularly polarized light the angular momentum transferred in the collision process has been determined. The results are compared with similar data for the 3p→3s deexitation process studied previously [6]. The density matrix of the Na*(3p) state has been evaluated with respect to the collisional excitation to Na*(3d). Semiclassical calculations based on the coupled channel impact parameter approximation using pseudopotentials [7] and nonadiabatic rotational coupling elements for the Na 2 * system [12] have been performed. The agreement with the experimental results is good, in particular for the higher collision energies.  相似文献

In this work the coherence properties of the synchrotron radiation beam from an X‐ray undulator in a fourth‐generation storage ring are analyzed. A slightly focused X‐ray beam is simulated using a wavefront propagation through a non‐redundant array of slits and the mutual coherence function is directly obtained and compared with the Gaussian–Schell approximation. The numerical wave propagation and the approximate analytical approaches are shown to agree qualitatively, and it is also shown that, when the coherent fraction is selected by a finite aperture before the focusing element, even achromatic focusing systems like total reflection mirrors become slightly chromatic. This effect is also well accounted for in the Gaussian–Schell model. The wavefront propagation simulation through the non‐redundant array was repeated with an imperfect mirror demonstrating that, although the wavefront is distorted, its coherent length is practically unchanged.  相似文献
