This study describes the evolution and growth of structured polymers by oblique angle deposition of poly(p‐xylylene) (PPX) derivatives. The deposition of structured PPX polymers have been demonstrated recently, but the mechanism of growth has not been studied. Here, we provide experimental evidence for the growth of structured PPX polymers by an atomic force microscope, electron microscope, and a profilometer. Individual columns expand with respect to their heights according to a power‐law, d = chp, where d is the column diameter, c and p are constants, and h is the height of a column. Values of p for structured poly(chloro‐p‐xylylene), poly(trifloroacetly‐p‐xylylene‐cop‐xylylene), and poly(bromo‐p‐xylylene) films are estimated as 0.11 ± 0.01, 0.15 ± 0.01, and 0.18 ± 0.01, respectively. This result is different from the traditional oblique angle deposition processes of nonpolymeric materials where the surface diffusion is low. Further analysis with two‐dimensional power spectral density (PSD) method showed that the ordering of columns is quasi‐periodic. Additionally, the X‐ray and transmission electron microscope characterization of the columns revealed that the columns are semicrystalline. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The present study investigated gravity effects on the dynamical behavior of inertial fibers suspended in a vertical channel flow. Direct numerical simulations were performed to obtain the turbulent flow field and the fibers were modelled as prolate spheroidal point particles. For each of the four fiber classes, three different gravity configurations were considered: upward flow with gravity opposing, downward flow with aiding gravity, and channel flow in absence of gravity. Results for the fiber distribution and the translational and rotational fiber motion were reported. In the near-wall region, the presence of gravity resulted in an increased fiber density in the downward flow but a nearly uniform distribution of fibers in upward flow. However, the preferential clustering of fibers in near-wall low-speed streaks was unaffected by gravity. The mean wall-normal or drift velocity of the fibers was higher in the downward flow and lower in the upward flow as compared to the case with no gravity. The suppressed drift velocity in the upward flow resulted in a more uniform fiber distribution throughout the channel in contrast to the near-wall accumulation of fibers in the two other cases. Overall gravity turned out to have negligible effects on some of the statistics of the least inertial fibers whereas the inclusion of gravity had a strong impact for heavier fibers.  相似文献

To study the effect of nanofiller particle TiO2 on sodium (Na+) – ion conducting solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) film: [80PEO:20NaPF6] and nanocomposite polymer electrolyte (NCPE): [80PEO:20NaPF6] + xTiO2, where x = 1–9 wt. (%) have been prepared. SPE film composition: [80PEO:20NaPF6] selects as Ist-phase host and nano-sized (<100 nm) filler materials TiO2 as IInd-phase dispersoid. Both SPE and NCPE films have been prepared by the hot-press technique. Filler particle-dependent conductivity study reveals the NCPE system: [80PEO:20NaPF6] + 8TiO2 as the highest conducting composition with σrt − 3.53 × 10−6 S cm−1, which is approximately one order of magnitude higher than the SPE optimum conducting composition (OCC) (σrt) ≈ 7.78 × 10−7 S cm−1. Ion transport properties for both SPE and NCPE system have been evaluated in terms of ionic conductivity (σ) and total ionic (tion)/cationic (t+) transference numbers using combined AC/DC techniques in order to evaluate its usefulness in all-solid-state battery applications. Structural/thermal properties have been characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques. A cyclic voltammetry (CV) study has been performed in SPE and NCPE OCC film to evaluate the electrochemical performance for battery application.  相似文献

A selective, precise, and accurate high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method has been proposed for the analysis of garlic and its formulations for their alliin content. The method involves densitometric evaluation of alliin after resolving it by HPTLC on silica gel plates with n-butanol-acetic acid-water (6 + 2 + 2, v/v) as the mobile phase. For densitometric evaluation, peak areas were recorded at 540 nm after derivatizing the resolved bands with ninhydrin reagent. The relation between the concentration of alliin and corresponding peak areas was found to be linear within the range of 250 to 1500 ng/spot. The method was validated for precision (interday and intraday), repeatability, and accuracy. Mean recovery was 98.36%. The method was applied for the quantitation of alliin in bulbs of Allium sativum Linn. (garlic) and its formulations. The proposed TLC method was found to be precise, specific, sensitive, and accurate and can be used for routine quality control of garlic and its formulations.  相似文献

Novel approach for the synthesis of core-shell polystyrene nanoparticles by living hydrophilic polymer consisting of thiocarbonyl thio end group is reported. The surfactant free emulsion polymerization of styrene in the presence of macro-RAFT (reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer) agent is carried out to synthesize stable latex particles with smaller particle size. A macro-RAFT agent is prepared by homopolymerization of sodium styrene sulfonate (NaSS) in aqueous phase by using dithioester as chain transfer agent. This synthesized polystyrene sulfonate-sodium (PSS-Na) based macro-RAFT agent, which is essentially water soluble macromolecular chain transfer agent used for the surfactant-free batch emulsion polymerization of styrene. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of the synthesized colloids shows the narrow particle size distribution with core-shell morphology.  相似文献

Attosecond pump-probe experiments routinely utilize extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and IR fields, with relative phase being the variable parameter. However, the Gouy phase slip between the focused IR and XUV pulses inevitably leads to a certain amount of phase averaging and loss of accuracy. By using ion imaging, we establish a one-to-one mapping between the local phase slip and the spatial coordinates of the focal volume, thus performing in situ characterization of the Gouy phase of a complex beam and its role in ionization of He and Xe. We demonstrate that spatially discriminated ion imaging enhances the contrast of a phase-dependent XUV+IR ionization signal. We utilize our technique to unmask a weak ionization asymmetry, thus opening pathways for further high-precision attosecond studies.  相似文献

Brain tumor segmentation is a crucial step in surgical and treatment planning. Intensity-based active contour models such as gradient vector flow (GVF), magneto static active contour (MAC) and fluid vector flow (FVF) have been proposed to segment homogeneous objects/tumors in medical images. In this study, extensive experiments are done to analyze the performance of intensity-based techniques for homogeneous tumors on brain magnetic resonance (MR) images. The analysis shows that the state-of-art methods fail to segment homogeneous tumors against similar background or when these tumors show partial diversity toward the background. They also have preconvergence problem in case of false edges/saddle points. However, the presence of weak edges and diffused edges (due to edema around the tumor) leads to oversegmentation by intensity-based techniques. Therefore, the proposed method content-based active contour (CBAC) uses both intensity and texture information present within the active contour to overcome above-stated problems capturing large range in an image. It also proposes a novel use of Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix to define texture space for tumor segmentation. The effectiveness of this method is tested on two different real data sets (55 patients - more than 600 images) containing five different types of homogeneous, heterogeneous, diffused tumors and synthetic images (non-MR benchmark images). Remarkable results are obtained in segmenting homogeneous tumors of uniform intensity, complex content heterogeneous, diffused tumors on MR images (T1-weighted, postcontrast T1-weighted and T2-weighted) and synthetic images (non-MR benchmark images of varying intensity, texture, noise content and false edges). Further, tumor volume is efficiently extracted from 2-dimensional slices and is named as 2.5-dimensional segmentation.  相似文献

For a given ${v \in \mathbb{N}}$ , we shall denote by forb ${(v, \mathcal{F})}$ the maximum number of columns in a simple (0, 1) matrix with v rows for which ${\mathcal{F}}$ does not occur as a configuration. We say that a matrix ${\mathcal{M}}$ is maximal for ${\mathcal{F}}$ if ${\mathcal{M}}$ has forb ${(v, \mathcal{F})}$ columns. In this paper we show that for certain natural choices of ${\mathcal{F}}$ , forb ${(v, \mathcal{F})\leq\frac{\binom{v}{t}}{t+1}}$ . In particular this gives an extremal characterization for Steiner t-designs as maximal (0, 1) matrices in terms of certain forbidden configurations.  相似文献
