Sampling sets and closed range composition operators on the Bloch space

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a composition operator on the Bloch space to have closed range. We show that when is univalent, it is sufficient to consider the action of on the set of Möbius transforms. In this case the closed range property is equivalent to a specific sampling set satisfying the reverse Carleson condition.

     

Nonlinear photonic lattices in anisotropic nonlocal self-focusing media

We analyze theoretically and generate experimentally two-dimensional nonlinear lattices with periodic phase modulation in a photorefractive medium. The light-induced periodically modulated nonlinear refractive index is highly anisotropic and nonlocal, and it depends on the lattice orientation relative to the crystal axis. We discuss the stability of such induced photonic structures and their guiding properties.     

5'-Porphyrin-oligonucleotide conjugates: neutral porphyrin-DNA interactions

[chemical reaction: see text]. Incorporation of hydrophilic tetraarylporphyrin phosphoramidites into the 5'-termimus of the DNA as well as noncharged porphyrin-DNA interactions have been studied. Porphyrin-modified oligonucleotides show lower melting temperatures than their unmodified analogues. Single-stranded DNA interacts more strongly with porphyrin and causes more intense chiral disturbance in the porphyrin environment than the corresponding double strand.     

Carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond formation on solid phase using cationic iron carbonyl complexes

Iron-mediated methodology for the formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom sp(3) bonds on solid phase has been developed. Treatment of a polymer-bound cationic iron cyclohexadienyl complex with carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorus nucleophiles, followed by cleavage with amines and subsequent decomplexation, yielded 18 different cyclohexadienoic acid amides of high purity. Surface modification of metallic Co nanoparticles

Monodisperse Co nanoparticles were synthesized by thermal decomposition in the presence of aluminium alkyls yielding air-stable Co nanoparticles after surface passivation. Several procedures for surface modification of these pre-stabilized, metallic Co nanoparticles are presented, including direct anchoring of surface-active functional groups and biocompatible dextran layers as well as silica and polymer coatings. As a result, individually coated nanoparticles as well as microspheres can be obtained.
