SCF-SW-Xα Calculations on molybdenum—halogen cluster compounds

The electronic structures of the cluster cations Mo₆ X⁴⁺₈ (X = F, Cl, Br, I) have been calculated using the SCF—SW—Xα method. The eigenvalue spectra obtained are discussed and compared with results of other quantum-chemical studies of such systems. The results of population analysis are used to discuss the charge distribution in the clusters studied. A qualitative discussion of the Mo-Mo and Mo-X bond strengths is also presented. Finally, calculated bond energies are compared with adsorption energies.     

Effective dielectric functions of samples obtained by evaporation of alkali halides

This paper investigates the dielectric properties of inhomogeneous samples consisting of small alkali halide particles (NaCl, KBr) on gold-coated substrates. Our reflection measurements in the far infrared can be simulated as a thin layer of the powder with an effective dielectric function on a perfectly reflecting substrate. Scanning electron micrographs provide useful information about sample topology. Several mixing formulas (e.g. the Maxwell-Garnett, the Bruggeman- and the Looyenga-formula) lead to effective dielectric functions neglecting the individual arrangement of the particles. The essence of our work is that, in contrast, the general ansatz of the Bergman spectral representation has to be employed in order to take into account topology effects on the dielectric function based on the so-called spectral densityg adjustable to the specific situation.

Wölbkrafttorsion dünnwandiger prismatischer Stäbe beliebigen Querschnitts

Zusammenfassung Für den dünnwandigen prismatischen Stab werden Einheitsverwölbung (13) und (15), Wölbnormalspannung (17), Wölbschubspannung (22), Torsionsträgheitsmoment (24), Wölbwiderstand (26) und Wölbschubzahl (32) angegeben. Die Ergebnisse gelten für beliebige dünnwandige Profilformen. Dasselbe trifft auch für die Differentialgleichung (35) der Stabverdrehung zu, da in ihr der Verformungseinfluß der Wölbschubspannungen berücksichtigt wurde.An einem Beispiel wurde die Bedeutung der Wölbschubkorrektur für geschlossene Profile gezeigt.

The properties of the class ofE-connected spaces are examined. The concept ofE-connectedness was introduced by the author in an earlier article in order to describe the connexion between separation and connectedness. Furthermore the concept is extended to the categoryU of uniform spaces and uniformly continuous maps. Thus a generalization of the concept of uniform connectedness due to MROWKA and PERVIN is obtained. It results that many theorems known from the theory of connected spaces due to HAUSDORFF are also valid forE-connected (topological or uniform) spaces.
