An intercomparison of sampling procedures used by five laboratories for the determination of radiocaesium in vegetation and peaty soil was carried out at two locations in Cumbria. The multiple sampling has given information on the homogeneity of the parameters studied at each location. The parameters comprise soil bulk densities, total deposition of137Cs, deposition of137Cs in three soil layers, biomass densities, concentrations of137Cs in pasture, and activity ratios (134Cs/137Cs) in soil and vegetation. The determination of total deposition of137Cs gave no indication of differences between the laboratories. The results from the soil profiles do indicate significant differences between laboratories. One laboratory using a coring technique observed difficulties during sampling due to compression of the soil. The coring technique should thus be avoided or applied with extreme care for the sampling of depth profiles in peaty soil. The results from the sampling of pasture show no indication of differences between the laboratories. For the parameters studied the observed variabilities across soil depths and locations range from 10% to 81% in terms of relative standard deviations. A comparison across all results at the two locations indicate a 50% higher field variability at one of the sites relative to the other. 相似文献

Pulse radiolysis techniques were used to measure the gas phase UV absorption spectra of the title peroxy radicals over the range 215–340 nm. By scaling to σ(CH3O2)240 nm = (4.24 ± 0.27) × 10?18, the following absorption cross sections were determined: σ(HO2)240 nm = 1.29 ± 0.16, σ(C2H5O2)240 nm = 4.71 ± 0.45, σ(CH3C(O)CH2O2)240 nm = 2.03 ± 0.22, σ(CH3C(O)CH2O2)230 nm = 2.94 ± 0.29, and σ(CH3C(O)CH2O2)310 nm = 1.31 ± 0.15 (base e, units of 10?18 cm2 molecule?1). To support the UV measurements, FTIR‐smog chamber techniques were employed to investigate the reaction of F and Cl atoms with acetone. The F atom reaction proceeds via two channels: the major channel (92% ± 3%) gives CH3C(O)CH2 radicals and HF, while the minor channel (8% ± 1%) gives CH3 radicals and CH3C(O)F. The majority (>97%) of the Cl atom reaction proceeds via H atom abstraction to give CH3C(O)CH2 radicals. Rate constants for the reactions of OH radicals and Cl atoms with CH3ONO, C2H5ONO, n-C3H7ONO, n-C4H9ONO, and n-C5H11ONO have been determined at 298 ± 2 K and a total pressure of approximately 1 atm. The OH rate data were obtained using both the absolute rate technique of pulse radiolysis combined with kinetic spectroscopy and a relative rate method involving simultaneous measurement of the loss of the nitrite and the reference compound. When compared to rate data for the corresponding alkanes the results show that the -ONO group decreases the rate constant for H atom abstraction by the OH radical from groups bonded to the -ONO group and also decreases that for groups in the β position. Similar results were found for the reaction of Cl atoms with these compounds. The results are discussed in terms of reactivity trends. 相似文献

Using FTIR smog chamber techniques, k(Cl + CF3OCF2CF2H) = (2.70 +/- 0.52) x 10(-16), k(OH + CF3OCF2CF2H) = (2.26 +/- 0.18) x 10(-15), k(Cl + CF3OC(CF3)2H) = (1.58 +/- 0.27) x 10(-18) and k(OH + CF3OC(CF3)2H) = (3.26 +/- 0.95) x 10(-16) cm3 molecule(-1) s(-1) were measured. The atmospheric lifetimes of CF3OCF2CF2H and CF3OC(CF3)2H are estimated to be 27 and 216 years, respectively. Chlorine atom initiated oxidation of CF3OCF2CF2H in 700 Torr of air in the presence of NO(x) gives CF3OC(O)F in a molar yield of 36 +/- 5% and COF2 in a molar yield of 174 +/- 9%, whereas oxidation of CF3OC(CF3)2H gives CF3OC(O)CF3 and COF2 in molar yields that are indistinguishable from 100%. Quantitative infrared spectra were recorded and used to estimate global warming potentials of 3690 and 8230 (100 year time horizon, relative to CO2) for CF3OCF2CF2H and CF3OC(CF3)2H, respectively. All experiments were performed in 700 Torr of N2/O2 diluent at 296 +/- 2 K. An empirical relationship can be used to estimate the preexponential factor, which can be combined with k(298 K) to give the temperature dependence of reactions of OH radicals with organic compounds proceeding via H-atom abstraction: log(A/n) = (0.239 +/- 0.027) log(k(OH)/n) - (8.69 +/- 0.372), k(OH) is the rate constant at 298 K and n is the number of H atoms. The rates of H-atom abstraction by OH radicals and Cl atoms at 298 K from organic compounds are related by the expression log(k(OH)) = (0.412 +/- 0.049) log(k(Cl)) - (8.16 +/- 0.72). The utility of these expressions and the atmospheric chemistry of the title hydrofluoroethers are discussed. 相似文献

Synchrotron radiation circular dichroism (SRCD) spectra of ribose and deoxyribose sugars, adenosine, AMP and dAMP nucleotides and cyclic derivatives were measured in the vacuum ultraviolet region (down to 168 nm for sugars and 175 nm for adenine derivatives) and at different pH values (3, 6-7, 9-10) and temperatures (between 5 and 45 degrees C). The information content in the VUV region is important since the CD bands strongly depend on the chemical structure of the sugar, the presence and orientation of a phosphate group and the protonation state of adenine. On the other hand, single or double deprotonation of the phosphoric acid group has no influence on the spectra. We assign the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) CD bands of the nucleoside and nucleotides to be due mainly to n-->pi* transitions in the adenine nucleobase based on a comparison with the absorption spectra. The CD bands of the sugars are due to n(O -->sigma*) transitions and are much smaller than the CD signal from the nucleotides in the VUV region. A method was developed for the simultaneous determination of the following nine volatile sulfur compounds in gas samples: carbon disulfide, carbonyl sulfide, ethyl sulfide, ethyl methyl sulfide, hydrogen sulfide, isopropanethiol, methanethiol, methyl disulfide and methyl sulfide. The target compounds were preconcentrated by solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and determined by gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry. Experimental design was employed to optimize the extraction time and temperature and concurrent detection of the nine compounds was achieved by using an SPME fiber coated with Carboxen-polydimethylsiloxane (75 microns). Detection limits ranged from 1 ppt (v/v) for carbon disulfide to 350 ppt (v/v) for hydrogen sulfide and calibration functions were linear up to 20 ppb (v/v) for all the compounds investigated. 相似文献

The embedding of attractors and their stable and unstable manifolds can be studied experimentally by controlled addition of chemical species to bring about a particular response. For stable small amplitude oscillations near a Hopf bifurcation from a steady state the embedding can be completely determined even in systems where two of the species are not observable. A quenching of the oscillations by dilution candetermine the steady state concentrations. A species that cannot quench the oscillations almost certainly cannot be an essential component of the oscillation. The method can be extended to a study of attractor associated with subharmonic and quasiperiodic bifurcations and of attractors corresponding to nonperiodic motion.
