The effects of cadmium (from 7.5 to 75 microM) on chloroplasts of rice were studied at the structural and biochemical level. Loss of pigments, reduction of thylakoids and decrease in oxygen evolution and Fv/Fm ratio occur in leaves following cadmium treatment. However, the amount of photosystem II reaction center proteins and that of its light harvesting complex is not affected, indicating that cadmium does not adversely influence the structural organization of this photosystem. In thylakoids isolated from cadmium-treated plants a loss in the capability to reduce 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol is observed, which is partially restored if diphenylcarbazide is used as an electron donor, indicating that cadmium affects water splitting activity. In thylakoids isolated from control plants and treated with cadmium, diphenylcarbazide preserves most of the photosystem II activity lost after incubation with cadmium; most of the S(2) multiline electron paramagnetic resonance signal from the manganese cluster is lost, whereas the TyrD(+) and other signals are retained. Light-induced photosystem II damage, in vitro, is promoted by Cd-treatment as deduced from the mobility shift of the D1 protein observed by immunoblot.  相似文献

Summary. We propose and analyze a finite difference scheme for the Kohn Laplacian operator associated with the Heisenberg group, which is a degenerate elliptic operator of H?rmander type. We give a complete analysis for a periodic problem in a cube. In particular, we prove a discrete Poincaré-Wiertinger inequality which yields the stability. Numerical tests are presented. We report a detailed investigation on holographic grating formation in dye-doped polymer dispersed liquid crystals. Both optical and scanning electron microscope measurements have been carried out. All the experimental data support the idea that a photorefractive-like effect is the basic mechanism of the optical storage effect, while it is demonstrated that neither droplets' size or shape effects, nor dye or polymer reorientation are involved in the process.  相似文献

5-Amino-2,3,6,7-tetrahydrothiocines were reacted with arylazides yielding 1-aryl-9a-amino-1,3a,4,5,7,8,9,9a-octahydrothiocino[4,5-d]-1,2,3-triazoles which could be deaminated to 1-aryl-1,4,5,7,8,9-hexahydrothiocino-[4,5-d]-1,2,3-triazoles. Similarly, the above enamines yielded, with nitrile oxides, 3-aryl-9a-amino-3a,4,5,8,9,9a-hexahydrothiocino[4,5-d]isoxazoles which were transformed with acids into 3-aril-4,5,8,9-tetrahydrothiocino-[4,5-d]isoxazoles.  相似文献

New liquid crystalline stilbene derivatives containing vinyloxyalkoxy chains 1 (n=5, 7, 9, 11) have been synthesised. Their mesomorphic properties have been studied by polarising optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. It is interesting to note that even their alcohol precursors showed liquid crystalline behaviour. The effect of terminal alkoxy chain length and UV irradiation on the mesomorphic behaviour is discussed.  相似文献

The application of high intensity electric fields to polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films can induce changes in their electro-optical properties and morphology. In particular, a quasilinear electro-optical response to an external electric field can be achieved if an internal built-in d.c. field is induced. In this work, we show how the liquid crystal/polymer weight ratio influences the electro-optical response of 'charged' PDLCs, i.e. of PDLC films after the application of a high intensity electric field. We observed that a quasilinear electro-optical response can be achieved in a well determined range of composition. Larger liquid crystal concentrations are unable to maintain the built-in field, while PDLCs with lower liquid crystal loadings do not allow the onset of a built-in d.c. field.  相似文献

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been applied to characterize hydrated sphingomyelin/dioleoylphosphatidylcholine/cholesterol supported bilayers, after dehydration either in the absence or in the presence of several stabilizing substances. Such a study provides information about the effect of extreme environmental conditions on biological membranes and, in particular, on lipidic microdomains. Dehydration stress, indeed, is thought to cause both macroscopical damage and alterations of microdomains in biomembranes, leading to deleterious effects. These phenomena can be avoided if disaccharides are added during dehydration. In this work, we apply AFM imaging to directly visualize damage caused to supported lipid bilayers by water removal. We compare the efficiency of sucrose, trehalose, dextran, dimethyl sulfoxide, and glucose in preserving the structural integrity of domain-exhibiting model membranes. Finally, in addition to confirming previous findings, our results provide further insight into damage and alteration of microdomains in membranes as a consequence of stressful drying conditions.  相似文献

Nematic liquid crystal droplets dispersed in a thermoplastic matrix with a built-in d.c. electric field exhibit a quasi-linear response to an electric field. In this work we show a device characterized by a large light modulation. The device can store fields up to several V µm -1 and operates well from d.c. to several kHz. In addition, we found that the experimental results are in agreement with a simple theoretical model for light scattering by a dispersion of liquid crystal droplets. This device allows us to overcome possible drawbacks, due to a reduced light modulation, in applications where polarity detection is required.  相似文献

Abstract

It is known that pressure alone is not able to make shelf-stable any food stored in room conditions. Acid products are normally spoiled by enzymes, and low acid products are spoiled even by spore-forming micro-organisms. To overcome the problem the role of heat in the process has been re-evaluated and the possibility of destroying at the same time spores and enzymes has been found. This work compares the effect of sterilisation by High Pressure Processing (HPP) with one of the conventional retort processing techniques. Two batches of meat sauce were kept in room conditions over a year and their quality was evaluated periodically during the shelf life simulation. The physico-chemical characteristics of the retorted ones showed a progressive appearance of the typical thermal damage. The High Pressure Sterilised samples on the contrary showed limited damage, related to the unavoidable pre-heating. Their quality markers were constant over the shelf life evaluated period.  相似文献
