Two non-destructive tomographic techniques, X-ray CT imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), were applied to study the development of core breakdown disorder in 'Conference' pears (Pyrus communis cv. Conference). This disorder, which is characterized by brown discoloration of the tissue and development of cavities, is induced by elevated CO(2) and decreased O(2) levels during controlled atmosphere storage. Tomographic images of pears stored for 10 months under disorder inducing conditions, were acquired with both techniques and compared to the actual slices. Both X-ray and MRI were able to differentiate between unaffected tissue, brown tissue and cavities. A simple image-processing program, based on threshold values, was developed to determine the area percentage of affected and unaffected tissue as well as the cavity and core area per slice. For all three imaging techniques the area percentage brown tissue per slice increased with the diameter of the pear, but was systematically underestimated by 12% and 6% for, respectively, X-ray and MRI, compared to the actual slices. The area percentage cavity corresponded very well for all techniques. It was also found that the contours of the brown tissue were parallel to the fruit boundaries, suggesting a relation between the disorder symptoms and gas diffusion properties of the fruit. It was concluded that MRI is the most appropriate technique to study the development of core breakdown disorder during postharvest storage in future experiments.  相似文献

Abstract

The optical characteristics of the TE and TM guided modes of a multilayer anisotropic two-dimensional waveguide are investigated by using the field component transformation matrix, and also taking into account the substrate intrinsic dispersion. The embedded thin metal layer effects on the propagation constant for both lossless approximated and exact solutions are presented. The lossless approach is accurate enough for the TE waves, but it is not for the TM ones, which exhibit changes of about 10?6 for the equivalent index. The TM modes also present attenuation constant changes between the lossy and weakly-lossy solutions of the order of 9 dB/cm. Several complex field component mappings are drawn, and the surface plasma waves are also examined.  相似文献

Exploiting the information about members of a Social Network (SN) represents one of the most attractive and dwelling subjects for both academic and applied scientists. The community of Complexity Science and especially those researchers working on multiplex social systems are devoting increasing efforts to outline general laws, models, and theories, to the purpose of predicting emergent phenomena in SN’s (e.g. success of a product). On the other side the semantic web community aims at engineering a new generation of advanced services tailored to specific people needs. This implies defining constructs, models and methods for handling the semantic layer of SNs. We combined models and techniques from both the former fields to provide a hybrid approach to understand a basic (yet complex) phenomenon: the propagation of individual interests along the social networks. Since information may move along different social networks, one should take into account a multiplex structure. Therefore we introduced the notion of “Semantic Multiplex”. In this paper we analyse two different semantic social networks represented by authors publishing in the Computer Science and those in the American Physical Society Journals. This study aimed to investigate matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity in human dentin using in-situ and gelatin zymography, after at-home and in-office bleaching, related to their clinical exposure times. Dentin specimens (n = 5) were treated with 35% hydrogen peroxide (50 min per session/4 sessions), 10% carbamide peroxide (180 min/21 sessions), or no treatment. All were subjected to in-situ zymography. Dentin slices were, subsequently, obtained, covered with fluorescein-conjugated gelatin, and examined with confocal laser-scanning microscopy. The fluorescence intensity was quantified and statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Bonferroni tests (α = 0.05). Furthermore, gelatin zymography was performed on protein extracts obtained from dentin powder (N = 8 teeth), treated with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, with different exposure times (10/50 min for hydrogen peroxide; 252/1260 min for carbamide peroxide). The results of the in-situ zymography showed no statistical differences between the bleached specimens and the control group, with a medium level of gelatinolytic activity expressed in the dentin tubules. The results of gelatin zymography showed an increased expression of pro-MMP-9 in carbamide peroxide groups. The expression of pro-MMP-2 decreased in all the experimental groups. The bleaching treatments performed on the enamel of sound teeth do not influence dentinal enzymatic activity. However, when unprotected dentin tissue is bleached, matrix metalloproteinases are more expressed, particularly when carbamide peroxide is used, proportional to the exposure time.  相似文献

A fullyc-axis oriented thin film of YBa2(Cu0.98 57Fe0.02)3O6.8 prepared by planar dcsputtering has been investigated by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. Room temperature57Fe conversion electron Mössbauer spectra taken at different angles between the -ray direction and the normal (=c-axis) of the film show four subspectra: A (quadrupole splitting E Q1.9 mm/s), B (E Q1 mm/s), C (E Q0.5 m/s) and D (E Q1.6 mm/s). For subspectra A, B and C, we found the same hyperfine parameters as already published on other samples. The hyperfine parameters for subspectrum D are determined for the first time using a fully oriented sample. For D, we found the asymmetry parameter 0.6 andV zz (the main component of the electric field gradient) lying in the a-b-plane.  相似文献

Target remnants withZ<3 from proton-nucleus and16O-nucleus reactions at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon were measured in the angular range from 30° to 160° (?1.7<η<1.3) employing the Plastic Ball detector. The excitation energy of the target spectator matter in central oxygen-induced collisions is found to be high enough to allow for complete disintegration of the target nucleus into fragments withZ<3. The average longitudinal momentum transfer per proton to the target in central collisions is considerably higher in the case of16O-induced reactions (≈300 MeV/c) than in proton-induced reactions (≈130 MeV/c). The baryon rapidity distributions are roughly in agreement with one-fluid hydrodynamical calculations at 60 GeV/nucleon16O+Au but are in disagreement at 200 GeV/nucleon, indicating the higher degree of transparency at the higher bombarding energy. Both, the transverse momenta of target spectators and the entropy produced in the target fragmentation region are compared to those attained in head-on collisions of two heavy nuclei at Bevalac energies. They are found to be comparable or do even exceed the values for the participant matter at beam energies of about 1–2 GeV/nucleon.  相似文献
