Characterization of two irradiation positions for fission track dating at the Lena Triga Mark II reactor

In the present paper the use of two natural uranium dosimeters is described. Data are compared with fluence values obtained by using NIST glass standards and the traditional activation of metal foils. Finally an example is reported for application of neutron dosimetry to the dating of the Fish Canyon Tuff age standard.     

Determination of metal impurities in electrolytic iron by GF-AAS using electric dispersion in liquid medium

A laboratory-built electrospark system, operated in liquid medium, is used as dispersion method for metallic samples. The metallic colloidal solutions formed upon electrocorrosion behave as typical lyophobic colloidal systems, which are highly stable. The parameters influencing the formation of the colloidal solutions are optimized so that the electrospark system can be used in combination with graphite furnace-atomic absorption spectrometry for trace metal determinations. Dispersion rates for electrolytic iron range from 50 to 125 g min^–1, depending on the power. The colloidal solutions show the same atomization behaviour as true solutions, which makes calibration with aqueous standards feasible. The method has been used to determine manganese, chromium und copper in the NIST SRM 665 electrolytic iron.     

Square wave adsorptive stripping voltammetry of molybdenum(VI) in continuous flow at a wall-jet mercury film electrode sensor

An adsorptive stripping voltammetry method for the determination of traces of molybdenum(VI) in flowing solution at a wall-jet electrode sensor has been developed. After adsorption of a molybdenum complex on a wall-jet mercury film electrode, the complex is reduced by a square wave scan. More satisfactory results were obtained using 8-hydroxyquinoline as a complexing agent in nitrate medium than using Toluidine Blue in oxalic acid. Enhanced sensitivity was achieved by optimizing adsorption time and square wave parameter values. The detection limit of Mo(VI) was found to be at the nanomolar level. Interference of some other metallic species in the determination of nanomolar Mo(VI) was also investigated: Cu(II), Zn(II), Mn(II) do not interfere at 10 muM, whereas 1 muM FeEDTA(-) causes an increase in peak current. This iron interference was removed effectively with citric acid.     

Quantum field theory in curved space-time as thermo field dynamics

The strong analogy between states defined in the context of quantum field theory in curved space-time (QFT-CST) and the ones defined in the thermo field dynamics (TFD) of Takahashi and Umezawa [1] is shown. This analogy is useful in order to introduce the entropy operator in CST in the same way as in TFD. When the extremum condition in the thermodynamical potential is imposed, a family of Bogoliubov transformations that give us a planckian spectrum is found, even in pathological cases such as the minimally coupled scalar field.
