Convenient method for determination of optical purity of chiral alcohols and amines

Program of measurement of the asymmetry P at the minima of the differential cross section for elastic π + p scattering

A program of measurement of the polarization parameter P in elastic π ⁺ p interaction in the resonance region of backward pion scattering is presented. This program is aimed at determining the bifurcation points of the trajectory of zeros of the pion-nucleon amplitude and, hence, at unambiguously reconstructing the amplitude of πN scattering in the second resonance region. It is planned to perform a relevant experiment in a pion beam from the accelerator of the Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics (ITEP, Moscow).     

Submillimeter Laser Interferometer-Polarimeter for Plasma Diagnostics

The testing results of a homodyne 0.195-mm laser interferometer-polarimeter based on quasioptical components are presented. The interferometer-polarimeter matched to the multichannel interferometer of a Tokamak-15 machine admits of simultaneous measurements of the plasma electron density and poloidal magnetic field in one of the seven vertical-probing channels without any disturbance in the others. The achieved responce threshold of the electron density is 3.4·10¹¹ cm^–3, the polarization resolution and the phase difference measurement error are no worse than 0,1⁰ and ±4⁰, respectively.     

Measurement of the spin rotation parameter Ain the elastic pion-proton scattering at 1.43 GeV/c

The ITEP-PNPI collaboration presents new results of the measurements of the spin rotation parameter A in the elastic scattering of negative pions on protons at P_beam = 1.43 GeV/c. The results are compared to the predictions of several partial wave analyses. The experiment was performed at the ITEP proton synchrotron, Moscow.     

Dispersity effect of platinum supported on honeycomb carrier on its activity in benzene hydrogenation

Specific activity of Pt catalysts prepared by supporting Pt(-C₄H₇)₂ or H₂PtCl₆ on a honeycomb carrier in benzene hydrogenation in the kinetic region has been established to remain unchanged with increasing Pt particle size from 10 to 50 Å.

Topology Change in (2+1)-Dimensional Gravity with Non-Abelian Higgs Field

We study topology change in (2+1)D gravity coupling with non-Abelian SO(2, 1) Higgs field from the point of view of Morse theory. It is shown that the Higgs potential can be identified as a Morse function. The critical points of the latter (i.e. loci of change of the spacetime topology) coincide with zeros of the Higgs field. In these critical points the two-dimensional metric becomes degenerate, but the curvature remains bounded.
