We report the first shock tube measurements of formaldehyde (CH2O) during the first stage ignition of n-heptane, 2-methylhexane and 3,3-dimethylpentane, in highly diluted fuel/oxygen mixtures in the pressure range of 7–10 atm and temperature range of 700–880 K. Combined time histories of all carbonyl (–C = O) species, CO and fuel were also measured simultaneously in an effort to study the impact of fuel structure on the concentration and the rate of evolution of first stage ignition products. Of the three isomers studied in this work, n-heptane was found to be the fastest, while 3,3-dimethylpentane was found to be the slowest. The differences in the time scale of formation, and plateau concentration of the intermediates between the isomers across the entire range of test conditions suggests a strong dependency of the measured time histories to fuel structure. These species therefore act as markers of the Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) behavior of fuels and can be used as targets for developing semi-empirical, hybrid chemistry models of complex, multi-component petroleum derived gasoline and jet fuels. The time histories reported in this work should prove very useful in the refinement of detailed kinetic models of n-heptane, and development of rate rules for branched alkane isomers. 相似文献

The Langmuir monolayer at an air–water interface shows remarkably different surface pressure (π)–area (A) isotherm, when measured with the surface normal of a Wilhelmy plate parallel or perpendicular to the direction of compression of the monolayer. Such difference arises due to difference in stress exerted by the monolayer on the plate in different direction. In this article, we report the effect of changing the direction of substrate normal with respect to the compression of the monolayer during Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) film deposition on the morphology of the films. The morphology of the LB film of stearic acid is studied using an atomic force microscope. The morphology of the LB films is found to be different due to difference in the stress in different directions. The role of such surface morphology on the alignment of a nematic liquid crystal (LC) in LC cells is studied. The granular texture of LB films of stearic acid supports the homogeneous alignment of the LC whereas the uniform texture supports the homeotropic alignment of the LC. 相似文献

The inclusion behaviour of β-cyclodextrin (βCD) was studied toward Cefdinir (CEF) in order to enhance the solubility and dissolution rate, following cyclodextrin complexation. Drug cyclodextrin solid systems were prepared by conventional methods of kneading (KN), co-evaporation (CE), spray drying (SD) and with a novel approach of microwave irradiation (MWI). The formation of inclusion complexes with βCD in the solid state, were confirmed by Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) studies, and comparative studies on the in vitro dissolution of CEF were carried out. Characterization of binary system by DSC, FTIR and SEM indicated that SD and MWI method resulted in formation of true complexes. Binary systems showed significant increase in dissolution rate as compared to plain drug. Amongst the binary systems MWI products were prepared in least time with better yield and highest dissolution rate. 相似文献

The study of protein conformational changes in the presence of surfactants and lipids is important in the context of protein
folding and misfolding. In the present study, we have investigated the mechanism of the protein conformational change coupled
with aggregation leading to size growth of Hen Egg White Lysozyme (HEWL) in the presence of an anionic detergent such as sodium
dodecyl sulphate (SDS) in alkaline pH. We have utilized intrinsic protein fluorescence (tryptophan) and extrinsic fluorescent
reporters such as 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid (ANS), dansyl and fluorescein to follow the protein conformational
change in real-time. By analyzing the kinetics of fluorescence intensity and anisotropy of multiple fluorescent reporters,
we have been able to delineate the mechanism of surfactant-induced aggregation of lysozyme. The kinetic parameters reveal
that aggregation proceeds with an initial fast-phase (conformational change) followed by a slow-phase (self-assembly). Our
results indicate that SDS, below critical micelle concentration, induces conformational expansion that triggers the aggregation

Measurements of neutrino oscillations using the disappearance of muon neutrinos from the Fermilab NuMI neutrino beam as observed by the two MINOS detectors are reported. New analysis methods have been applied to an enlarged data sample from an exposure of 7.25×10(20) protons on target. A fit to neutrino oscillations yields values of |Δm(2)|=(2.32(-0.08)(+0.12))×10(-3) eV(2) for the atmospheric mass splitting and sin(2)(2θ)>0.90 (90% C.L.) for the mixing angle. Pure neutrino decay and quantum decoherence hypotheses are excluded at 7 and 9 standard deviations, respectively. 相似文献

Nanocrystalline samples of Pb1−yLay(Ti1−xMnx)(1−y/4)O3 (PLMT) (y=0.06, x=0, 0.04, 0.07 and 0.10) were prepared by mechanical activation process (i.e., ball milling) followed by some annealing. The formation of single phase tetragonal crystal structure is confirmed by high-resolution X-ray diffraction study and by High resolution transmission electron micrographs (HRTEM), nano-scale compounds. The electrical behavior (i.e., impedance (Z) and electrical modulus (M)) of PLMT ceramics was studied by impedance spectroscopy technique in high temperature range. This study was carried out by means of the simultaneous analysis of the complex impedance (Z?) and electrical modulus (M*) functions in a wide frequency range (1 kHz-1 MHz). Impedance analysis has shown the grain and grain boundary contributions by an equivalent circuit model. Modulus analysis has provided vast information on charge transport processes. The simultaneous representation of the imaginary part of impedance and electric modulus (Z″, M″) vs. frequency revealed the localization of relaxation. The activation energy obtained from relaxation data may be attributed to oxygen ion vacancies. 相似文献

The crystallization and glass transition kinetics using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in 50AgI–33.33Ag2O–16.67[(V2O5)1−x
–(MoO3)
x
] superionic glassy system is discussed. Thermal stability of glass, studied using various criteria, does not vary significantly
with glass former variation. However, the activation energies for structural relaxation (E
s) at glass transition temperature and crystallization (E
c) obtained using Moynihan and Kissinger, Matusita-Sakka formulations found to exhibit interesting trends with MoO3 substitution in the glass matrix. It is noticed that the electrical conductivity (σ)–temperature (T) cycles obtained at a typical heating rate of 1 °C/min do exhibit significant thermal events. The conductivity after first
heating cycle at room temperature is found to be increasing with MoO3 content and maximum for x = 0.3 (~10−3 Ω−1 cm−1 at 30 °C) which is comparable to that of the host 50AgI–33.33Ag2O–16.67V2O5 glassy system. The effect of nitrogen doping on the magnetic properties of (ZnO)(n) clusters (n = 1-16) has been investigated using spin polarized density functional theory. The total energy calculations suggest that N is more stable at the O site than at the Zn site in (ZnO)(n) clusters and induces a magnetic moment of 1 μ(B)/N atom. The N-Zn-N configuration is more stable than isolated N for 3D structures. The N dopants do not show any tendency for clustering. The binding energy is found to decrease with the increase in the number of N dopants. The magnetic moment increases gradually with the increase in the number of atoms with 1 μ(B)/N atom for n ≤ 4 and less than 1 μ(B)/N for n > 4. The local magnetic moment is mainly localized at the N site with a small magnetic moment induced at the O site. The presence of a Zn vacancy (V(Zn)) induced an additional magnetic moment of 2 μ(B) on the nearest O atoms. The N dopant prefers to form a N-V(Zn) pair. The combination of N and V(Zn) in 3D structures leads to a total magnetic moment of 3 μB. The Mulliken charge transfers from Zn to N and O in all N doped (ZnO)(n) clusters. The calculated results are consistent with existing experimental and theoretical results. 相似文献
