The physical meaning of scattering matrix singularities in coupled-channel formalisms⋆

The physical meaning of bare and dressed scattering matrix singularities has been investigated. Special attention has been attributed to the role of the well-known invariance of the scattering matrix with respect to the field transformation of the effective Lagrangian. Examples of evaluating bare and dressed quantities in various models are given.     

Role of propagating modes in a double-groove grating with a +1st-order diffraction angle larger than the substrate-air critical angle

Here we show, analytically and numerically, that in a TiO(2) double-groove grating with two different groove widths per period attached on the SiO(2) substrate, the normally incident light couples to the +1st-order transmission with 96.9% efficiency and with a 50° diffraction angle that is larger than the SiO(2)-air interface critical angle. Modal analysis reveals that three propagating modes for the +1st diffraction order reach the grating back end in phase, while the corresponding propagating modes for the -1st and zeroth orders are added destructively at the grating end. Four optical devices based on this grating characteristic are numerically demonstrated.     

Electron scattering and charged pion photoproduction on12C and13C

Electron scattering and charged pion photoproduction at 200 MeV on¹²C and¹³C have been studied by the nuclear shell model to investigateM1 andE2 nuclear form factors of the isovector type. Starting with the Op-shell model of Hauge-Maripuu, the effects of core polarization by theM 3Y force and the one-pion-exchange current are taken into account. The effect of core polarization is found to be essential in both electron scattering and pion photoproduction, while the meson-exchange current, which also improves the calculated results, gives contributions of about 10%–15%.     

The geometrical structure of the parameter space of the two-dimensional normal distribution

The differential geometrical consideration of the parameter space, especially as a Riemannian geometry, was initiated by C.R. Rao in 1945. This approach appears to be important for the problem of estimation and test of hypotheses as well as for applications to physical problems. It has been shown that the parameter spaces of univariate normal distribution, univariate exponential distribution and multinomial distribution are Riemannian spaces of constant curvature. In the present paper the discussion is confined to the parameter space of the two-dimensional normal distribution. It has been shown that in general the parameter space is not necessarily of a constant curvature and that, if the correlation coefficient vanishes, the parameter space becomes an Einstein space. In addition, some invariant quantities, as sectional curvature, mean curvature and scalar curvature, have been calculated.     

Nuclearity of a nonnegative definite integral kernel on a separable metric space

The aim of this paper is to characterize the nuclearity of an integral operator, defined by a continuous non-negative definite square integrable kernel on a separable metric space, in terms of the integrability of the trace of the kernel function. Nuclearity here plays a role forU-statistics.     

Some weighted estimates for Littlewood-Paley functions and radial multipliers

We prove some weighted estimates for certain Littlewood-Paley operators on the weighted Hardy spaces H_w^p (0<p?1) and on the weighted L^p spaces. We also prove some weighted estimates for the Bochner-Riesz operators and the spherical means.
