By using the function representation of self-adjoint operators, the expectation and variance of physical quantities (self-adjoint operators) are defined, and it is shown that the so-called uncertainty principle does not hold.     

Large deviations and the propagation of chaos for Schrödinger processes

Summary Schrödinger processes due to Schrödinger (1931) (the definition of which is given in Sect. 4) are uniquely characterized by a large deviation principle, in terms of the relative entropy with respect to a reference process, which is a renormalized diffusion process with creation and killing in applications. Anapproximate Sanov property of a subsetA _a,b is shown, whereA _a,b denotes the set of all probability measures on a path space with prescribed marginal distributions {q _a, q_b} at finite initial and terminal timesa andb, respectively. It is shown that there exists the unique Markovian modification ofn-independent copies of renormalized processes conditioned by the empirical distribution, and that the propagation of chaos holds for the system of interacting particles with the Schrödinger process as the limiting distribution.     

Cyclooxygenase inhibitors derived from thalidomide

Several N-3,5-dimethylphenylphthalimide analogs possessing more potent cyclooxygenase-inhibiting activity than that of aspirin were prepared during structural development studies based on thalidomide. Substituent effects on the activity were investigated.     

Enhancement and suppression of vibrational coherence in degenerate four-wave-mixing signal generated from dye-doped polymer films

Vibrational coherence in the degenerate four-wave-mixing (DFWM) signal generated from polymer films doped with a dye, oxazine 4 (Ox4), at 10 K was investigated. It was found that the amplitudes of some low-frequency oscillations (<400 cm(-1)) were enhanced when the delay between the first and second femtosecond pulses was set out of phase with the oscillation period. Frequency and reorganization energy dependence was investigated by computer simulation based on the response function formalism which considers all the possible Liouville space pathways for the DFWM signal. It was revealed that low-frequency oscillations with weak coupling to the optical transition can be enhanced in the stimulated photon echo signal compared to the transient grating signal.     

NMR relaxation studies on quasi-one-dimensional conductor β-Na0.33V2O5

The spin-lattice relaxation time T₁ of ²³Na and ⁵¹V nuclei in the quasi-one-dimensional conductor β-Na_0.33V₂O₅ was measured in the temperature region between 77K and the room temperature. The large anisotropy of T₁ of ²³Na nuclei was observed. The experimental results of T₁ of ²³Na and ⁵¹V nuclei at 77K were analyzed that there exists in β-Na_0.33V₂O₅ the electron hopping motion along site I vanadium chain, of which the correlation time of this hopping motion is about 10^?12 sec.
