Aprotic N,N-dimethylpropionamide (DMPA) and N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylurea (TMU) are both strong donor solvents and coordinate to metal ions through the carbonyl oxygen atom. These solvents show a different conformational aspect in the bulk phase, i.e., DMPA exists as either a planar cis or a nonplanar staggered conformer, while TMU exists in a single planar cis conformer. It has been established that the manganese(II) ion is solvated by five molecules in both solvents. Interestingly, although the planar cis conformer of DMPA is more favorable than the nonplanar staggered one in the bulk phase, the reverse is the case in the coordination sphere of the metal ion, i.e., a conformational change occurs upon solvation. To reveal the thermodynamic aspect of this conformational change, the complexation of Mn(II) with bromide ions in DMPA and TMU has been studied by titration calorimetry at 298 K. It was found that the Mn(II) ion forms mono-, di- and tri-bromo complexes in both solvents, and their formation constants, enthalpies and entropies were obtained. The Δ H1 value for MnBr+ strongly depends on the solvent, i.e., it is positive (19.4 kJ-mol−1) in DMPA and negative (−8.7 kJ-mol−1) in TMU, whereas the Δ H^∘2 and Δ H3 values for the stepwise formation of MnBr2 and MnBr3 are both small and negative. The enthalpy of transfer ΔtH from DMPA to TMU, which is evaluated on the basis of the extrathermodynamic TATB assumption, is 25.5 kJ-mol−1 for Mn2+ and −3.6 kJ-mol−1 for MnBr+. These values indicate that the difference between the formation enthalpy of MnBr+ in the two solvents, Δ H^∘1 (DMPA) – Δ H1 (TMU), is mainly ascribed to the value of ΔtH(Mn2+). It is found that the metal ion is also five-coordinated in the monobromo complex, MnBr(DMPA)4+ . The enthalpy for the conformational change of DMPA from its planar cis to the nonplanar staggered form is evaluated to be −11 and −5.5 kJ-mol−1 for Mn(DMPA)52 + and MnBr(DMPA)4+, respectively. Note that these values are significantly smaller than the corresponding value (5.0 kJ-mol−1) in the bulk phase. We thus conclude that, although steric hindrance among solvent molecules is reduced by replacing one DMPA of Mn(DMPA)52 + with the relatively small bromide ion, DMPA molecules are still sterically hindered in the MnBr(DMPA)4+ complex.  相似文献

Organic–inorganic hybrid liquid crystal (LC) gels have been synthesised by the thiol-ene reaction of a multifunctional cyclic siloxane, 1,3,5,7-tetravinyl-1,3,5,7-tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane (TVMCTS) and alkane dithiols, 1,6-hexanedithiol (HDT) or 1,9-decanedithiol (DDT), in LC matrices, 4-cyano-4?-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) or 4′-n-octyl-4-cyano-biphenyl (8CB). The LC gels were prepared in an isotropic phase at 70°C or mesophases at 25°C using radical initiators. The phase transition temperatures from a mesophase to an isotropic phase of the resulting gels were lower than those of the original LCs. The gels containing 8CB (8CB gels) prepared at 25°C showed two phase transitions: smectic-to-nematic and nematic-to-isotropic transitions. By contrast, the 8CB gels synthesised in the isotropic phase showed only one phase transition from smectic phase directly to isotropic phase. Reaction conversions in the LC gels prepared at 70°C were higher than that in the gels prepared at 25°C. Scanning microscopic light scattering analysis of the LC gels cleared homogeneous small size mesh with a small amount of large defect. Polarisation micrographs of the LC gels showed framed optical textures derived from the LC molecules at room temperature. The LC gels containing more than 90 wt% of LC showed electro-optic response.  相似文献

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra of chromium monosilicide (CrSi) and disilicide (CrSi2) were collected from a clean surface prepared by fracturing the bulk silicide compound in a spectrometer under ultrahigh vacuum; the analytical procedure for the phase identification of the Cr–Si system was examined. A negligible binding energy shift was observed in the Cr 2p3/2 level between elemental Cr and CrSi2, whereas the energy of CrSi was 0.2 eV lower than that of Cr and CrSi2. The satellite peak in the Cr 2p spectra originating from the plasmon-loss phenomena was found only for CrSi and CrSi2. The binding energy of Si 2p shifted, reflecting the silicide phases; the energy of CrSi2 and CrSi was 0.3 eV higher and lower, respectively, than that of elemental Si. Although a slight difference in the spectral shape was observed in the valence band region, the phase identification was considered unreliable. However, the energy shifts of Si 2p and the presence of the plasmon-loss peak in the Cr 2p spectra provide important insights into the phase identification of the Cr–Si system.  相似文献

σ-π Conjugated porous polymers were synthesized by the Mizoroki–Heck reaction of cyclic siloxane with vinyl groups, 1,3,5,7-tetravinyltetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane (TVMCTS), and 2,7-dibromo-9,9-dialkylfluorene (RFl) compounds, using a Pd catalyst in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at 100°C. The reactions of TVMCTS in combination with 2,7-dibromo-9,9-dihexylfluorene (HFl), 2,7-dibromo-9,9-dioctylfluorene (OFl), and 2,7-dibromo-9,9-ethylhexylfluorene (EHFl) yielded porous polymers whose morphologies were induced by phase separation during the network formation. The reactions in combination with binary RFl systems, TVMCTS-HFl/OFl, and HFl/EHFl systems, also yielded porous polymers. Scanning electron microscope images showed porous structures, which were composed by connected globules and/or isolated-deformed holes. The long and branching structure of the alkyl side chains in RFl decreased Young's modulus of porous polymers in compression test. The porous polymers showed emission derived from σ-π conjugated fluorene units on photo excitation. An increase in monomer concentration in the reaction induced red shifts of the emission bands of the porous polymer due to π-stacking of the fluorene units. The porous polymers showed relatively high fluorescence quantum yields of about 0.2–0.3. Quantum yield of the porous polymers with HFl decreased with increasing monomer concentration in the reaction systems.  相似文献

The solvation structure of the lithium ion in room-temperature ionic liquids 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (EMI(+)TFSI(-)) and N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide (BMP(+0TFSI(-)) has been studied by Raman spectroscopy and DFT calculations. Raman spectra of EMI(+)TFSI(-) and BMP(+)TFSI(-) containing Li(+)TFSI(-) over the range 0.144-0.589 and 0.076-0.633 mol dm(-3), respectively, were measured at 298 K. A strong 744 cm-1 band of the free TFSI(-) ion in the bulk weakens with increasing concentration of the lithium ion, and it revealed by analyzing the intensity decrease that the two TFSI(-) ions bind to the metal ion. The lithium ion may be four-coordinated through the O atoms of two bidentate TFSI(-) ions. It has been established in our previous work that the TFSI(-) ion involves two conformers of C(1) (cis) and C(2) (trans) symmetries in equilibrium, and the dipole moment of the C(1) conformer is significantly larger than that of the C(2) conformer. On the basis of these facts, the geometries and SCF energies of possible solvate ion clusters [Li(C(1)-TFSI(-))(2)](-), [Li(C(1)-TFSI(-))(C(2)-TFSI(-))](-), and [Li(C(2)-TFSI(-))(2)](-) were examined using the theoretical DFT calculations. It is concluded that the C(1) conformer is more preferred to the C(2) conformer in the vicinity of the lithium ion.  相似文献

Titration Raman spectroscopy has been developed for studying the solvation structure of metal ions in solution. The method affords us the solvation number, and the value thus obtained in neat solvents is in good agreement with that determined by EXAFS. The method is then applied to solvent mixtures, and the individual solvation number for each solvent is extracted. In a solvent mixture of N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylurea (TMU), the metal ion prefers DMF to TMU, which is ascribed to the solvation steric effect. The same applies also for the solvent mixture of N,N-dimethylpropionamide (DMPA) and DMF. However, unlike TMU, DMPA changes its conformation from the planar cis to non-planar staggered upon solvation to the metal ion. The enthalpy for the conformational change of DMPA is positive in the bulk, while it is significantly negative in the coordination sphere of the manganese(II) ion. Here, we briefly describe the procedure of measurements and analyses for the titration Raman spectroscopy, and review the solvation structure of the alkaline earth, first transition metal(II) and lanthanide(III) ions in some solvent mixtures in view of solvation steric effect.  相似文献

The melting and crystallization behavior of polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene containing 1,2‐ or 1,3‐disubstituted cyclopentane units in the main chain has been studied with simultaneous wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and differential scanning calorimetry. For the ethylene‐based copolymers, the position of a reflection peak in the WAXD patterns shifts to a low angle with the increasing acquired temperature. The temperature dependence on the axial length of the crystal lattice is more marked in the copolymers forming orthorhombic crystals (containing 1,2‐cyclopentane or 5.6 mol % 1,3‐cyclopentane units) than in those forming hexagonal crystals (containing 8.1 mol % 1,3‐cyclopentane units). For the isotactic propylene‐based copolymers, the position of the reflection peaks in the WAXD patterns is independent of the acquired temperature. The proportion of the γ form in the copolymer containing the 1,2‐cyclopentane units is higher than that in the copolymers containing the 1,3‐cyclopentane units. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
