Charged-particle multiplicity distributions in different rapidity windows in 800 GeV proton-nucleus interactions

Multiplicity distributions of charged particles produced in interactions of 800 GeV protons with emulsion nuclei in various rapidity windows are presented. The data is also analyzed separately for the forward and the backward hemispheres, for rapidity windows of different widths. It is found that the Negative Binomial Distribution (NBD) describes well the multiplicity distribution of secondary particles in various rapidity windows and also in both the hemispheres. We have compared the NBD parameters, in both the hemispheres, at 200 GeV and 360 GeV, with those at 800 GeV. The behaviour of NBD parameters in rapidity windows of different widths and for different targets has also been studied. Received: 30 August 2001 / Accepted: 28 January 2002     

First organotin complex of a phosphonic diamide RP(O)(NHR)2

Diorganotin dichloride-phosphonic diamide complex, [Ph₂SnCl₂(tBuP(O)(NHⁱPr)₂)₂] (1), is prepared by the addition of two equivalents of ^tBuP(O)(NHⁱPr)₂ to one equivalents of Ph₂SnCl₂ either in the presence or absence of triethylamine. Compound 1 is a rare example of an all-trans SnA₂B₂C₂ complex that contains H-bonded six-membered rings which are made up of six different main group elements.     

Specific ion effects on adsorption at the solid/electrolyte interface: a probe into the concentration limit

Adsorption of organic acid at the mineral oxide-electrolyte interface has been explored. The adsorption of 2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid onto α-alumina illustrates that specific ion effects show up at very low salt concentration (<0.05 mM). These surprising Hofmeister effects occur at salt concentrations an order of magnitude lower than in a previous study ( J. Colloid Interface Sci. 2010, 344, 482 ). Salts enhance adsorption and specifically at ≤0.05 mM. With increasing concentration of ion, the adsorption density decreases. The results are accounted for by incorporating the ion size and dispersion forces in the theoretical modeling based on ab initio calculations of polarizabilities. The order appears to be governed by ion size, determining the maximum concentration that ions can attain near the surface due to close packing.     

Synthesis and anticancer activity studies of alpha-aminoalkylated conjugated nitroalkenes

Novel alpha-aminoalkylated conjugated nitroalkenes which inhibit human cervical cancer (HeLa) cell proliferation by binding to tubulin were synthesized by imidazole/LiCl-mediated reaction of conjugated nitroalkenes with N-tosylimines.     

Cover Feature: Rare Spin Avoided σ-σ Diradical Planar Tetracoordinate Boron Cluster: A Proto-Star for Planar Pentacoordination (ChemPhysChem 18/2023)

We report a global planar star-like cluster B₃Li₃ featuring three planar tetracoordinate boron centres with a rare spin avoided σ-σ diradical character. The cluster was found to be stable towards dissociation into different fragments. The spin density was found to be localized solely on the three boron atoms in the molecular plane. This spin avoided σ-σ diradical character leads to the extension of the coordination number to yield a neutral B₃Li₃H₃ and a cationic B₃Li₃H₃⁺ cluster with three planar pentacoordinate boron centres in their global minimum structures. The planar geometry of the aninonic B₃Li₃H₃⁻ cluster is slightly higher in energy. The planar global clusters were found to maintain planarity in their ligand protected benzene bound complexes, B₃Li₃(Bz)₃, B₃Li₃H₃(Bz)₃ and B₃Li₃H₃(Bz)₃⁺ with high ligand dissociation energies offering candidature for experimental detection.
