Small angle neutron scattering study of polyelectrolyte conformation incorporated into hybrid threadlike micelles under strong shear flows 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A small angle neutron scattering study revealed that polyelectrolytes, sodium salts of partially sulfonated polystyrenes with narrow distributed molar masses of Mn = 27 x 10(3) and 340 x 10(3), which were incorporated into hybrid threadlike micelles formed with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in aqueous (deuterium oxide) solutions at a quiescent state, behaved as rigid rods with lengths of 16 and 200 nm and the same radius of 2.3 approximately 2.4 nm, respectively. Under strong shear flows at shear rates much higher than the reciprocal of the mechanical relaxation time for the solution, the formed hybrid threadlike micelles were highly orientated to the shear flow axis owing to the generation of a shear induced liquid crystalline phase. The polyelectrolytes incorporated into the highly orientated micelle also maintained essentially the same conformation as those in the randomly orientated micelles in a quiescent state even at high shear rates. 相似文献

Exposure to UVA light causes damage to cellular components such as DNA and membrane lipids. We showed previously that UVA irradiation can induce mutations in Drosophila larvae and that the major lesions responsible for mutations were not thymidine dimers when wavelengths tested became longer. The use of a longer wavelength with UVA laser apparatus (364 nm) has made it possible to test the effects of this powerful light in biological organisms. In the present study, we irradiated third instar larvae of the urate-null Drosophila mutant strain y v ma-l, which is sensitive to oxidative stress, and compared the effects of 364 nm light irradiation with the effects of X-rays. To assay viability, some of the larvae were kept at 25 degrees C until they eclosed in order to obtain a measure of viability. The remaining larvae were used to measure the amount of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), an indicator of oxidative DNA damage. The amount of 8-OHdG increased and viability decreased in response to increased UV dose in both the y v ma-l and wild-type strains. With irradiation of 600 kJ m(-2), 8-OHdG/10(6)dG was 7.2 +/- 3.2 and 6.2 +/- 2.0 in y v ma-l and wild-type strains, respectively, whereas the respective levels were 2.2 +/- 0.6 and 2.3 +/- 0.8 without irradiation. Our results indicated that irradiation with a 364-nm laser light caused significant oxidative damage in Drosophila larval DNA; however, induction of the damage was not prohibited by urate. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a study in whole animals that shows increased levels of 8-OHdG in response to 364-nm UVA. X-ray ionizing radiation is also thought to generate reactive oxygen species in irradiated cells. We found that the amount of 8-OHdG in DNA following X-ray radiation remained unchanged in both strains, though survival rates were affected. X-ray-generated oxidative damage in Drosophila cells was followed by cell death but not DNA base oxidation, and the damage was suppressed by urate. The overall results suggest significant differences in the major in vivo oxidative damage caused by 364-nm light and X-rays. 相似文献

The mechanism of water photooxidation reaction at atomically flat n-TiO(2) (rutile) surfaces was investigated in aqueous solutions of various pH values, using photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The PL bands, which peaked at around 810 and 840 nm for the (110) and (100) surfaces, respectively, were assigned to radiative transitions between conduction-band electrons and surface-trapped holes (STH), [Ti-O=Ti(2)](s)+, formed at triply coordinated (normal) O atoms at the surface lattice. The PL intensity (I(PL)) decreased stepwise with increasing solution pH, namely, it sharply decreased at around pH 4, near the point of zero charge of TiO(2) (about 5), and then rapidly decreased to zero near pH 13. The first sharp decrease around pH 4 is attributed to the increased rate of nucleophilic attack of a water molecule to a hole at a site of surface bridging oxygen (Ti-O-Ti), the density of which increases with increasing pH. The nucleophilic attack is regarded as the main initiating step of the water oxidation reaction in low and intermediate pH. The high PL intensity at low pH is ascribed to slow nucleophilic attack owing to a very low density of Ti-O-Ti by its protonation at the low pH. The second sharp decrease near pH 13 is attributed to formation of surface anionic species like Ti-O- which can be readily oxidized by photogenerated holes. Interrelations between reaction intermediates proposed in this work and those reported by time-resolved laser spectroscopy are discussed. 相似文献

Structural effects on the adsorption of CO have been studied using infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) on Pt(S)-[n(100)x(110)] surfaces (n = 2, 5, 9) that have densely packed kink atoms in the step. Coverage and potential dependence of the IRAS spectra are scrutinized. On-top and bridge-bonded CO are found on all of the surfaces examined. CO is adsorbed on only kink at low coverage (thetaCO < or = 0.2). Adsorbed CO on kink gives an IR band at lower frequency than that on step. CO is adsorbed on both kink and terrace at 0.3 < or = thetaCO. Water is adsorbed on the terrace of Pt(510) n = 5 and Pt(910) n = 9 at low CO coverage, but water is not found on Pt(210) n = 2 of which the first layer is composed of only kink atoms. It is suggested that coadsorbed water on the terrace enhances the activity for the oxidation of adsorbed CO on the kink remarkably. 相似文献

Reaction of azulene (1) with all-trans-retinal in diethyl ether in the presence of hexafluorophosphoric acid at −10 °C for 1 h in a dark room gives the corresponding monocarbenium-ion compound, (2E,4E,6E,8E)-1-azulenyl-3,7-dimethyl-9-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexen-1-yl)-2,4,6,8-nonatetraen-1-ylium hexafluorophosphate (3), in 74% isolated yield. The spectroscopic, chemical, and electrochemical properties of 3 compared with those of the previously-documented (2E,4E,6E,8E)-1-(3-guaiazulenyl)-3,7-dimethyl-9-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexen-1-yl)-2,4,6,8-nonatetraen-1-ylium hexafluorophosphate (4) are reported. Along with the above delocalized monocarbenium-ion compounds 3 and 4, stabilized by the expanded π-electron systems possessing an azulenyl (or 3-guaiazulenyl) group, an efficient preparation as well as the spectroscopic, chemical, and electrochemical properties of (2E)-1-azulenyl-3-phenyl-2-propen-1-ylium and (2E)-1-(3-guaiazulenyl)-3-phenyl-2-propen-1-ylium hexafluorophosphates (5 and 6) (90 and 96% isolated yields), having a similar partial structure [i.e., the (2E)-1-azulenyl-2-propen-1-ylium-ion or (2E)-1-(3-guaiazulenyl)-2-propen-1-ylium-ion part] to those of 3 and 4, is documented. Piperidine was reacted with methanol under a hydrogen stream in the presence of (H3O)2[(W6Cl8)Cl6]·6H2O supported on silica gel. When the temperature was raised above 200 °C, the catalytic activity of the cluster appeared. Piperidine N-methylation proceeded yielding N-methylpiperidine in 95% selectivity at 350 °C. The corresponding halide clusters of niobium, molybdenum, and tantalum supported on silica gel also catalyzed the reaction. Primary alcohols such as ethanol and 1-propanol produced the corresponding N-alkyl products of piperidine; however, secondary and tertiary alcohols did not. Selective N-methylation of pyrrolidine, hexamethyleneimine, butylamine, and aniline also proceeded. Thus, the clusters catalyzed alkylation of aliphatic, alicyclic, and aromatic amines with primary alcohols. A Brønsted acid site attributable to a hydroxo ligand, which is formed on the cluster complex by thermal activation, is proposed as the active site of the catalyst. 相似文献

The complexation behavior of 6-amino-6-deoxy-γ-cyclodextrin (CD), 6A,6X-diamino-6A,6X-deoxy-γ-CDs and 3A-amino-3A-deoxy-altro-γ-CD with 2-anthracenecarboxylic acid (AC) was studied by NMR, UV–vis and circular dichroism spectroscopy. These modified γ-CD derivatives were found to form stable 1:2 host-guest ternary complexes with AC in aqueous solution. Compared with native
γ-CD, the primary-face-aminated γ-CDs exhibited remarkably enhanced overall association constants as a result of the additional electrostatic interactions
