Methane sensor based on palladium/MWNT nanocomposites

Methane gas sensor was fabricated based on electrocatalytic properties of the Pd/MWNT nanocomposites on indium tin oxide (ITO)glass substrates.A linear response for methane was obtained in the range of 0-16%(v/v)with a detection limit of 0.167%(v/ v)and R.S.D.of 4.1%.After 100 times sensing or stable stored more than 12 months in atmosphere,unconspicuous measurable decrease was observed.The response time was less than 60s at room temperature and ambient pressure.Some common potential interferents in samp...     

Citrinal A,a novel tricyclic derivative of citrinin,from an algicolous fungus Penicillium sp.i-1-1

Citrinal A(1),a novel tricyclic compound with a rare tetrahydro-2H-benzofuro[7-b][1,4]dioxin-9(3H)-one skeleton,along with two known related compounds,citrinin(2) and 2,3,4-trimethyl-5,7-dihydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran(3) were isolated from an algicolous fungus Penicillium sp.i-1-1.The structure and stereochemistry of 1 were determined by comprehensive spectral and biogenic analysis.Its cytotoxic effects on the A-549 and HL-60 cell lines were evaluated.     

Effect of HeNe Laser Irradiation on Extracellular Matrix Deposition and Expression of Cytokines and Chemokines in Paracoccidioidomycotic Lesions

Paracoccidioidomycosis is the most prevalent human mycosis in Latin America. Cutaneous lesions are extremely painful and sensitive, and current treatment with antifungal drugs is lengthy and may cause side effects to patients. In this perspective, the helium-neon (HeNe) laser emerges as a novel therapy form due to its ability to heal wounds without changing cell function. In this work, we evaluate the effects of HeNe laser irradiation on extracellular matrix deposition and expression of cytokines and chemokines in cutaneous lesions caused by experimental infection of Balb/c mice. Our results showed decreased levels of pro-inflammatory interleukin (IL)-17 and tumor necrosis factor-α, and of anti-inflammatory IL-10 cytokines in lesions exposed to HeNe laser irradiation. Chemokines CCL3 and CXCL10 showed decreased levels in laser-treated lesions, but no significant difference was observed in relation to CCL5 expression. We also detected decreased density of fibronectin and laminin in HeNe laser-treated lesions. Data presented herein support the validity of our previous results suggesting positive effects of HeNe laser in accelerating wound healing in this experimental model. We believe that HeNe laser is a new nonharmful strategy that may be used as adjuvant and/or alternative therapy for improving treatment of paracoccidioidomycotic lesions.

FeCl_3 catalyzed diarylmethanes formations

Under mild condition,using FeCl3 as catalyst,a series of functionalized diarylmethanes were prepared efficiently from the reactions of arenes with paraformaldehyde.This catalytic system is not sensitive to air and moisture.     

Selectively colorimetric detection of cysteine with triangular silver nanoprisms

Triangular silver nanoprisms were prepared and applied to make colorimetric detection of cysteine based on our findings that cysteine could lead to the blue shift of the dipole plasmon resonance absorption,but other 19 kinds of natural amino acids could not.Cysteine with a concentration 160 nmol/L can result in a color change that can be discerned with naked eyes.     

Optical properties of cuprous telluride films

The structure of vacuum-deposited cuprous telluride Cu₂Te films deposited on carbon substrates was observed by means of an electron microscope. Films on glass substrates were also investigated by X-ray diffraction. The optical constants (the refractive index n and the extinction coefficient k) of Cu₂Te thin films were determined from the measured transmittance and reflectance at normal incidence of light in the wavelength range 0.4 m to 2.5 m. The variation of the optical constants with thickness for different evaporated films have been determined.
