Microwave Assisted FriedläNder Condensation Catalyzed by Clay

Clay catalyzed Friedländer condensation of 2-amino arylaldehyde or ketone with carbonyl compounds containing α-methylene group has been achieved in solvent free condition under microwave irradiation to give polycyclic quinoline derivatives.     

Persistent luminescence in Ca8Zn(SiO4)4Cl2:Eu2+

A new persistent, green emission is reported for europium activated Calcium Zinc Chlorosilicate (CZCS). The phosphor was prepared by the solid state reaction and characterized using XRD, PL and TL techniques. The decay was characterized by admixture of two exponential components with decay constants 20.2 and 101 s.     

Comparative Study of the Signal-to-Noise Ratio and Gain in Photorefractive Materials

We calculate the dependence of the signal-to-noise ratio and gain on the angle α between the pump and signal beams and the beam ratio β in Cu-doped potassium-sodium-strontium-barium niobate (Cu:KNSBN) crystal and compare them with the experimental results available in the literature. We find good qualitative agreement between the calculated and experimental results. Also we study variations of SNR and gain with α and β in BaTiO₃ crystal. Experimental data for this crystal are not available.     

Preparation of 1,3-Dienes,its Application to the Synthesis of (Z,E)-9,11-Tetradecadienyl Acetate and (E,E)-10,12-Hexa-decadienal: Sex Pheromones of Cotton Pests

E-2-Penten-4-yn-1-ol (3) has been utilized as a source for 1,3-diene systems by employing lithium amide induced alkylation, and curpous iodide catalysed Grignard coupling reaction as key steps. Its application for the synthesis of (Z,E)-9,11-tetradecadienyl acetate and (E,E)-10,12-hexadecadienal is described.     

Microwave Thermolysis VII: Oxidative Coupling of Thiol Acetates and Esters Using “Clayan” in Dry Media

Disulfide bond formation by the oxidative cleavage of thiol acetates and thiol esters using “Clayan”s under microwave irradiation is described. The non-metallic and inexpensive nature of the reagent are the important features of the procedure.     

Total synthesis of attenols A and B

A concise approach for the total synthesis of attenols A and B is described involving MacMillan’s α-aminooxylation, Evan’s asymmetric alkylation, Brown’s allylation, and spiro-ketalization as key steps. This approach has successfully demonstrated the α-aminooxylation protocol for the construction of the anti-1,3-diol unit.     

Effect of variation in signal amplitude and transit time on reliability analysis of ultrasonic time of flight diffraction characterization of vertical and inclined cracks

The variation of amplitude and transit time of the diffracted signal from the crack-tip in complex geometry components and their resulting effect on the probability of detection (POD) and probability of sizing (POS) was studied. The diffracted signal amplitude has been evaluated from the standard expressions for diffraction coefficient, spatial attenuation and the transit time from the respective mathematical models for both vertical and inclined cracks. The same parameters namely the signal amplitude and the transit time have been measured through experiments conducted on simulated test specimens. It has been observed that the analytical and experimental results compare well with each other. Based on this result the trend and shape (width of the transition zone) of the POD/POS curves can be predicted.     

A proposal for experimental detection of amplitude nth-power squeezing

Recently, in several theoretical investigations, amplitude nth-power squeezing has been studied with n = 2, 3, 4, 5. In the present paper, we give a proposal for experimental detection of amplitude nth-power squeezing using ordinary homodyning with coherent light for arbitrary power n and discuss in detail its theory. The proposed scheme requires only repeated measurements of the factorial moments of number of photons in the light obtained after homodyning, with various shifts of phase of coherent light, and involves no approximations, whatsoever. This has advantage over the method proposed by Shchukin and Vogel [Phys. Rev. A 72 (2005) 043808] in that our method requires only one beam splitter and only one photodetector, and also lesser number of repetitions of experiment with phase-shifted coherent light.     

An efficient synthetic approach to novel nickel(II) 2‐benzazolo‐5,10,15,20‐tetraphenylporphyrins

A simple and efficient synthesis of nickel(II) 2‐benzazolo‐5,10,15,20‐tetraphenylporphyrins from nickel(II) 2‐formyl‐5,10,15,20‐tetraphenylporphyrin and o‐arylenediamines, o‐aminophenols or o‐aminothiophenol in 1,2‐dichlorobenzene is described. A diverse range of novel β‐substituted azoloporphyrins has been successfully synthesized in good yields and their structures are confirmed on the basis of spectral data. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2012).
